After a few (very) hard landings, I had some issues with the gimbal and one of the wing joints. I contacted customer service and they promptly worked through the issues with me, had me send the drone to them for inspection, and sent me a new drone free of charge after it cleared the inspection.     • UPDATE: Hit-or-miss pending Android update

[Latest review updated 9/30/2024] BLUF: Updated app is available on Specta Cogito website Specta Cogito released an updated app for Android on September 24th, and that appears to have resolved the issue of app freezing. Several people who were suffering the same problem have confirmed on social media that the new version is allowing them to operate the drone again. I wish the company was faster on getting the update pushed out. However, with the app no longer freezing and the drone able to be used once again, I am happy and will be updating the review to 5/5. [Second review from 9/23/2024] BLUF: The app works on a new, different Android phone with the latest Android security patches. When I first got the drone, I was using Pixel 6 Pro. Then sometime after the September security update, the app no longer worked. I upgraded to Pixel 9 Pro with factory-fresh OS a few days ago and tried the app on that, and it works. Since I had to do a system reset of Pixel 6 Pro to trade it in, I decided to see if resetting the operating system will work. Lo and behold, the app now works on Pixel 6 Pro. Cogito Specta reached out to me with a refund offer, but I don't want to take it since it's working again. Don't get me wrong--this is a very nice entry-level drone. However, I'm wary of the app potentially bricking itself once again due to compatibility issues. I'll be revising my rating of it to 4/5 stars in the meantime, and provided that the app doesn't brick itself again and/or when Cogito Specta releases an actual update to address this potential issue, I'll give it 5/5. [Original review from 9/15/2024] Overall rating: 1/5 Headline: App does not work with the latest Android 14 security update BLUF: An expensive paperweight for Android users. When I first got the drone, it worked great. I liked it enough that I invested in accessories, including three spare batteries, propellers, case, chargers, etc. Then back in late August/early September, a security update for Android 14 rolled out, and the app no longer works. When launching the app, it freezes at the splash screen with the Specta logo and does not progress any further. Restarting it does not help. Clearing the cache does not help. Reinstalling it does not help. As a matter of fact, the Android OS warns that the app itself was built for an older version of Android, and you have to override the warning to install it. Multiple Android users have reported that they're having the same exact issue with the app not working. iOS users seem to have been spared. It's been over two weeks since the security update, and Specta has not yet released an updated version of the app on the download page. Specta does not have social media presence, so it's impossible to tell if the company is even aware of the issue. ... show more

Really love the drone. Was able to get it on sale and bought a case and some accessories, was hoping to snag some more batteries but they are unavailable at the moment. Customer support is super responsive and helpful. Drone qualities are great for the price even while not on sale, the setting interface allowed me to customize the three flying modes,( sport, normal, cinematic). Love thr distance it can fly, and the responsiveness. The camera is great for a drone this size. The installation downside would be the battery availability. My goal is to get my pt 107 license so I can make some extra cash or full time fly drones and eventually move up to the specta Air. I'm looking forward to seeing Specta grow and im hoping their fleet grows as well. Would love to see the drones stand out more with some flare that represents Specta. ... show more

    • Updated II: Great machine, CS, price. Batteries?

03/28/25 Update II: After becoming more confident in both my flying ability and the drones RTH (return to home) function, I decided to try some range testing at the beach. I was able to get out a mile with the loss of some signal. Haven't tried any further but am happy with the results. CS continues to e-mail me to ensure my satisfaction and to make sure I received the free battery they sent me. They have again told me batteries will be available on Amazon soon. We will see. Update: Customer Service reached out to me to quiet the squeaky wheel. Thank you, I will be keeping this incredible machine. Still feel that firmware should be updated to allow other batteries. The Specta Mini drone is absolutely 5 stars. Night and day compared to a drone I purchased 5 years ago. Unfortunately, I may be returning the drone as a result of there being no available spare batteries with uncertainty as to when they will be available. When the battery that came with the drone eventually goes bad, the drone will become useless as a result of no replacement batteries. Although the DJI Mini cost more, there are many after-market battery options available. If I can get a spare battery before the 30 day return period, I will gladly keep this wonderful machine. I would think Specta would issue a firmware update to allow the use of additional batteries if they are not going to be able to supply them. I have contacted customer service, and they assure me they are working on the battery problem. I will update this review to 5 stars if they update firmware to accept other batteries or make spares available. ... show more

For the price of 219 229 I would pay $300 maybe this drone is quality made quality throughout they didn't skimp on anything plus added extras beautiful videos rock steady I'm just very happy with it couldn't say more I went through a few drones until I got this one wish it would have been my first pick but it is what it is I definitely recommend this drone you might want to get a $80 drone first they have some good brushless ones.
