Battle Worn BB-8 by Sphero Review This BB-8 is more than just a toy; it is your companion. I first knew about this product when my uncle came over to my house with this little gadget. I did not pay much attention to it at first, but once I saw him controlling his droid with hand gestures, I was wowed by it. BB-8 by Sphero is an app/wristband controlled gadget that pretty much works the same way as a remote controlled car, but better. The little droid comes pack with a couple of features that include controlling the droid with either the app or wristband and holographic communication, which allows you to record, send, and view holographic videos. The little droid also comes with voice commands and voice recognition as well as a patrol mode, which pretty much means BB-8 controls on its own. There is a lot to like about BB-8 by Sphero. For one, the packaging and the design of the product is very slick. The box that serves as the package has a very premium feel to it and feels nothing cheap. It may not seem like that big a deal, but it’s a detail that is appreciated by me. Inside the box comes four objects; the droid, the wrist band, a charging port, and a USB charger. Just like the box, the products inside also have a very premium feel, so premium that you’ll be afraid to scratched any of them, even though it may be “battleworn.” Another great thing about the BB-8 is that it is rechargeable. That’s right, no batteries required. This is great because not only will you save money, you also won’t have to worry about swapping batteries in and out the product, which is a hassle. However, the one thing that I absolutely love about this product is how great it controls. It can go slow, it can go fast, and this is done all in a very smooth fashion. It feels very lightweight, and not bulky and tank-like, which is a huge plus over other remote controlled /electronic BB-8 products. However, this doesn’t mean that the product is perfect. One problem that I have with the product, even though I think it is very great, is that there really isn’t much to do with it. Yes, there are several other features such as the voice commands and holographic communications, but that does adds very little to the product. They are sweet to have, but it seems like these features are just there. Another problem with this is the wristband. Yes, it is cool to be able to control BB-8 by using the force, but there is a bit of a learning curve to it. If one is easily frustrated, learning to control the droid with the wristband may cause some frustration. And also, the wristband seems to disorient itself from BB-8, so often times you may find yourself having to lean your arm way left just to get BB-8 to go straight. However, my main gripe with this product is how expensive it is. New, this product goes for about $200.00. That is pushing it for me considering that one can’t really do much with it. All in all however, this is a great product for any Star Wars Enthusiast. This makes a very great toy for anyone who is a fan of Star Wars and is old enough to control BB-8 and take good care of it. However, since I know that $200.00 is a lot to pay for, I would recommend waiting for a price drop if you are interested in purchasing a Battle Worn BB-8, but don’t want to spend too much. I just got my little robot friend in the mail today. I've first seen it a few weeks back for Christmas at a gadget center in the mall (mainly for older adults who still act like kids). I walked past and turned my head when I seen that little black eye and rounding figure. My boyfriend who was with me thought I was being kidnapped since he didn't notice I stopped when I screamed very loudly. I love Star Wars (more than Star Street, sorry Star Trek fans), but sadly I didn't see the latest movie before the newest one came out. So I missed out on seeing BB-8 in the theatres. Any who, back to my story. I ran in the store and all I could do was point at this little robot sitting on the shelf. I wanted him, I wanted him right then and there. So the guy placed the wrist band on his arm and showed me how he could control BB-8. I kinda freaked when he was rolling the robot and it hit the corner of a shelf which decapitated the robot. He easily placed the head back on and he made it follow him back over to us. He rolled the robot around and brought it back to me which he made it bump my foot a few times. I looked down and he some how made the BB-8 look up at me. I know the head is magnetic, but I don't know if it was the way he did his hand, but it caught me. I couldn't help but fall in love with this little guy. We ended up leaving without one, because we had gone shopping and our budget was cut for the day. I remembered I had an account with Amazon and quickly took out my phone to find it. Sure enough there he was, then before I knew it he was in my check out basket heading home to me. So now I'm looking at him feeling butterflies in my stomach. (I think my boyfriend got replaced. Lol jk jk.) I was reading upon a lot of research iews which made me a bit scared, but even if he doesn't do a lot of things which were said, I don't care. He will go everywhere with me. I will even bring him to work which I've already warned my bosses that I was bringing my "pet". So now I can't wait to walk in with him rolling in behind me!! ... show more
