The product came with picture and a little written instruction. I thought the instructions were very good. It took 2 hours to put togeather at a very leisurely pace. It was easy but I wasn't confident so I took my time and kept going over my work and the instructions to make sure that I didnt make a mistake- I did not. I do recommend a hammer, Phillip's head screw driver, a pair of pliers, and an electric screw driver. The only one you really need is the Phillip's head screw driver but the rest make it easier. I think the electric screw driver makes me more secure because it tightens the self tapping screws with more strength than I have. It is a pretty, sturdy futon. We bought the burgandy which is actually more of a pretty cranbury color. The matress smells as all futon mattresses smell when you first unwrap and unfold them, but the smell goes away in about 3 days. It is so comfortable. This Futon seems to be popular or another hardwood. It definitely is not pine in case you have allergies to pine. I would definitely buy this again. Good product. ... show more

We received our queen size frame first which was actually two days before the expected date. The delivery was listed as completed so I called Amazon customer service and was told to wait a few days and if it didn’t come to call if I didn’t hear from the third party store. The mattress came a few days later so my husband put it together as instructed and all went well. The frame is well made and easily assembled. The mattress is a little big for the frame, 65” wide (the frame is 57”wide), so it hangs over the sides. It also has a chemical odor and unlike other microfiber furniture I’ve bought, the fabric (microfiber) is cheap. There were 2 lines of black dirt near the bottom ( lengthwise). Since we bought the frame and mattress as a set, we decided to keep it rather than disassemble the frame and try to repackage everything. We will probably at some point replace the mattress locally with one that fits the frame properly. ... show more

This review was written while actually on the futon. Nice, sturdy and comfortable. Good mattress. Easy to assemble for people who don’t mind/enjoy assembling furniture. I took under a couple of hours of lazy assembly. Tip: Read the instructions. The diagrams are as important as the verbiage. Assembly Experience: I used a cordless screwdriver, rubber mallet and some wood glue for some of the dowels. The wood glue IS NOT necessary but, for the dowels that I had to insert myself at the beginning steps, I put a drop inside the hole on one side and tapped them in with the rubber mallet to seat them. I left the other side of the dowel where the other pieces utilize the screw dry. I believe this will add some sturdiness in the long run. The pieces fit together very well. They were tight without even having to muscle around. Tip: If you don’t hate yourself, use an electric screwdriver. If you don’t have one, buy one. Go now. You deserve it. Result: Once it is fully assembled, this thing is a machine! All the parts and the way they fit together contribute to its overall sturdiness in a cool way. I get it now. A very clean design and easy to operate. Criticisms: My package had only the exact number of screws and dowels. If the carrier accidentally drops the package on a corner in transit and it hits the end of one of the boards with the dowels already installed it’s at risk of being broken in arrival. Mine had a close call but it survived. Suggestion: Add some extra dowels and screws and beef up the packaging in the ends. The number markers for the double digit pieces are difficult to read (ex 4 vs 14) but I was following the instructions so it was a minor glitch. Suggestion: Make the 1 thicker. ... show more

I was pretty impressed with how easy the assembly instructions were to follow, the frame is sturdy and finished beautifully. I am pretty disappointed with the mattress, personally. When I chose twill over microfiber, I was expecting standard cotton twill, but the fabric is a scratchy polyester, mine also came with more than a few loose seam strings. Also, manufacturer should really consider including spare screws and dowels. ... show more

I’ll update after we sleep on it but we’re trying out having a futon in our bedroom because we find ourselves feeling pulled to lay down during the day while we’re doing work (work from home and grad school), and under our bed was becoming a sort of dead zone with dust bunnies and stuff. We wanted to try tatamis but I fear our dogs would make that very difficult so we’re trying this out. I set it up by myself, and while I’m handy I’m not very strong, but found this very easy. This took me exactly an hour start to finish. The instructions are super clear and the pieces well labeled, it’s wood but like the little stitched together pieces of wood way instead of solid pieces. I just used the hardware included and my drill. We are letting our mattress air out before we really try it out but we say briefly as a lounger, sofa, and laid on it as a bed and it was really comfy. The couch angle is really cozy. My wife and I are about 325 lbs combined so I’ll update with how it holds up, so far though I’m really excited with how it looks. ... show more

    • Do not believe the naysayers: it IS easy to assemble

I must admit to being disappointed with one aspect of this futon (please read on). During this pandemic, I thought this would be just the thing to occupy my time and attention, at least for a while, based on several reviews moaning about the difficulty of assembly. Alas, I put the whole thing together by myself (aside from the dog underfoot) with an electric screwdriver in about 90 minutes. I am a middle-aged woman – 5’3”, 125 lbs. – with a humanities degree. This is NOT difficult. The frame arrives in a cardboard box, and yes, it is unassembled 38 pieces of wood. Each piece is labeled numerically, so the first step should be to sort each piece accordingly. Most of them connect with wooden dowels. I used a regular hammer and a magazine to tap the pieces together. The joints connect with metal pins that require no tools, and then everything is secured with 20 screws. If you do not already have an electric screwdriver, this is a great investment for life in general. Seriously: One woman with arthritis in 90 minutes. The hardest part was getting my husband to drag the mattress up two flights of stairs. Speaking of the mattress, because of these crazy times, the mattress arrived about a week after the frame; but it’s not as if we can have company right now anyway. I always assumed I would put a thick mattress pad on it for any guests whom we hope may eventually be allowed to come visit because I just did not expect that much from the mattress included. I do like the color of the mattress that we selected (burgundy) although I wish it did not have these little white strings holding it together. Maybe I can get an appropriately colored marker to color the threads? But I think once it is set up and has some throw pillows, it won’t bother anyone but me. I also don’t understand why it has zippers on both ends. Which end is up? I might have taken a star off for the mattress except it is such an excellent value. Once the mattress pops out of its shipping cocoon, it really, really *wants* to be a bed. I had a much needed laugh when I sent an email to the seller about how to use it in sofa formation and almost immediately received a reply about the mattress needing to be “taught” and how it will learn where to bend. Husband and I immediately began its instruction and forced it into submission! I have to say the communication with the seller (DCG) has been top notch. Even if I were to take a star off for the mattress, they would get two extra stars for their wonderful customer service - and during a pandemic no less! If it collapses under the weight of any guests in the future, I’ll update this review; but I don’t see that happening. It feels extremely sturdy and has held up with all three of us - chubby hubby, doggie, and I - resting on it together. ... show more

    • Extremely Difficult To Put Together, The Good And The Bad!

I just want other potential buyers to know what they are getting with this futon. I only wished the other reviews would have specified that you are basically building this futon from the ground up by yourself. Had I known that I would have bought a different brand that at least came partially together. I never seen anything like this. It comes in one LONG skinny box loaded with boards of all sizes and just the right amount of screws and pegs and the typical small allen bar wrench. The pictures are not very clear and you have to pay close attention or you will be taking it apart and starting over, which is what I had to do. If you don't have a power drill, go buy a cheap one or you will be screwing in 20 screws by hand. The company could have at least included an assembly video since they are expecting customers to build this on their own with poor instruction pictures. There was another brand I seen that came with 2 large sections and all you did was snap them together, so that is what I thought this was. They still consider that assembly required. This should have been listed as "Building your own Futon with boards included". Again, If you have bad wrists like me, you will want to buy a cheap power drill or hand screwing in these screws are going to kill your hands. I do like the assembled product when I finished the next day putting it together for my sitting room where I can mainly use the lounge position when I'm on my laptop. The mattress that comes with it is quite comfortable as I had to sleep on it while I'm waiting on my bedroom mattress to arrive. Right now I could only give this 3 stars due to the unnecessary difficulty to put together when I believe the company could have done better. ... show more

The instructions are easy to follow. I love the fact that it is real wood. Which gives it a faint scent. It is sturdy but easy to move. The wood is unfinished and I left it that way. It helps to have a helper for assembly. I purchased two. I recommend buying this product using Amazon.
