I was skeptical about this set because there are plenty of similar, poorly made sets out there, than I decided to order this because I saw how the food pieces were wrapped separately in one of the reviews. The toy food are nicely made, solid color, sturdy enough to be abused by my 2 and half years old toddler. This is what this play set can do: 1. Simply toy food. ( Imagination play) 2. Enhance mobility through 'cutting'. 3. Language development. (You need to play with your child and talk too.) 4. Promote social skills. (Cut and sharing) 5. It's a puzzle game! ( After you split up all the pieces, find the right one to put back together, or just stick a banana and carrot together to have a good laugh.) What's good about this particular set is it contains variety of fruits, vegetables, dinner and dessert pieces for further simulation play. UPDATE: 2 YEARS later, this set has held up to everyday play, and it's still in great condition! Highly recommend! Original review: I've been eyeing this set of cutting food for months after comparing a LOT of play food sets, and I'm very satisfied with this one! It has the best variety of play food, including both healthy foods (fruit, seafood, vegetables), junk foods, and dessert. Love the painted details inside. The quality is not bad for plastic play food for kids - it's a hard plastic, the velcro is strong for all except one piece (easily fixed), and they make a crisp crunchy sound when cut apart. I like that it comes with 2 knives and 2 cutting boards in case one breaks. Minor imperfections: I don't care for the cheap storage bag, and 2 pieces had some extra paint mark on there... but these are not a big deal for me, as kids toys will eventually get scuffed up. ... show more

Our 4 year old son, who loves all things food and cooking, kept asking for us to buy this for him. He already had other pretend food toys, but really wanted these. So far these have been great and is one of his favorite toys. He loves playing with them and likes how you can cut the fruit and make pretend meals. There are a lot of different foods in the bag that it comes with and he can use his imagination. The pretend food seems to be pretty good quality and he hasn't broken any of it yet. This set was a great purchase! I had been looking for a quality set of play food for my daughter. The fact that you can "cut" these toy foods in half was an added bonus. I was very surprised by the quality. The food pieces are a hard plastic, not soft like typical play food. They are vibrant and detailed and well worth the money. It arrived in a handy pink tote and the items were group-bagged inside. My daughter was very excited to receive these and is having fun "cooking" and cutting them apart. My three year old son loves these! I purchased them because he loves helping mommy cook in the kitchen but gets dismayed when he can’t help mommy cut things. So I found these toys on amazon to give him the idea of cutting (safely of course) and when he is much, much older of course he can help cut foods with me. He loves cutting the foods and then putting them on his pretend grill and eventually putting them back together and starting all over again. The Velcro does make a cool crunch sound and my dainty 2 year old girl slices through them without any issues. They were a little tougher to get through the very first couple times but after that they loosened up and they’re perfect now. Pretty pieces with nice detail and quality materials. Love the clear zipping bag with handles so she can carry with ease. We both love the set! Wish the cutting boards were a little bigger, and I didn’t care for the knives so I switched them out with a plastic knife I got with a different kitchen play set. All in all we’re super pleased! Great toy for a great price. Good for my 21m old! :) the foods are hollow durable plastic and the velcro is attached to each piece with a good bond and when put together, the pieces stay. They are also easy to cut and pull apart. would buy again without pause! :)
