  • good!
Color: Black
my perspective on this review is solely based on comparison to the headset these were meant to replace. i had a pair of aukey ep-b60 that i loved. i felt the audio quality was good for what i needed, from phone calls to music to podcasts, etc. they were comfortable to wear for extended periods of time, they fit my ear comfortably (i have bad luck with earbuds either refusing to stay seated or hurting my ears after a short amount of time), they were not true wireless (i hate those), they were charged via usb-c. just loved them. but they were discontinued and when mine finally started to fail, i was left in a lurch. so i tried a couple similar styles of headsets, which lead me to the Sony WI-XB400. first off, kudos to sony for even offering this style or earbud headphones. true wireless dominates the market and i had a hard time even finding companies i recognize who had even one option like this. i prefer to have the buds connected so i don't lose one, and can just let them hang when not in use and don't have to keep track of each ear piece. i like being able to charge it with the same cable i charge my phone with (or any USB-C cable), and not have to ALSO keep track of a case and its charge (which also costs like half the price of the earbuds, if replacement cases are even offered.) i tried the beats flex and hated them. they sounded awful (or i guess, they just sounded too different from my aukeys.) the audio hurt my ears as did the earbuds themselves. there was so much cord noise. they were more expensive than these sony's or what i paid for the aukey's. it was a hard pass. i returned them and i kept looking. the Sony WI-XB400 seems to be a winner. they have a sound that is pretty close to how my aukey's sounded. while these do not have the little nub that hooks into your ear crevasse to hold the earbud in place like the aukeys, i none the less found the caps to be comfortable, non-irritating, and stayed put. while i don't think they are AS comfortable as the aukeys, i can nevertheless wear them for a long time without noticing them, hurting my ears, or needing to reach up to reinsert them constantly. i've had no problems charging them and they've lasted all day. no problems connecting to my devices. the cord noise is minimal, especially if the cord is seated perfectly on your neck. the voice cues are nice (hearing how much battery is left is a nice touch) but also a bit unnecessary. the following is not necessarily negatives as much as nitpicks. none of these are deal breakers for me, just some nice to haves: the cord is very long. to be honest, too long. they almost reach bellow my sternum when they are hanging around my neck. i've almost hit them on the stove burner or dipped them into dirty dish water. they do not need to be this long. the magnets that connect the buds together when around your neck are very weak. they separate too easily and are unwieldy trying to get them to snap together while they're dangling. you need to manually turn on and off the headset by holding down the play button. my aukeys would turn off and pause the media when stuck together. these do nothing. i think at the very least pausing the audio with you remove the earbuds and join the magnets would be a good feature. i DO like the power on and off switch in some cases, it's nice to know they won't switch on if i stick them in my pocket. it's just difficult to know if the headset is on or off without putting them back on and holding the power button and waiting the the voice to tell you. the play/power button is the exact same as the volume down button on the controls, just a slightly different size. bad bad bad design. i appreciate that you can find the buttons by feel alone, but the volume down button feels exactly the same as the pause button. you have to take an extra beat to make sure it's the button you need before pressing it. very annoying. making the power button even just like a hollow circle would be so useful. those issues aside, i am really happy with these earbuds. i still prefer my aukeys and am sad they no longer make them, but these are so far the next best thing. i cannot speak on their durability but i am hoping to get a good run out of them ... show more

  • Best earbuds I ever owned. You cant go wrong with these!
Color: Black
I bought these because I cant use regular ear buds. They fall out of my ears on the plane and get lost or stepped on. I love my Bluetooth earphones but they kind of get in the way in the gym and take up more space when travelling. I saw these and was surprised that Sony had something at such a low price. These are great. The sound is loud enough but wont give you ear damage. They are easy to use and stay snug in my ears for hours with no discomfort. The cord being wrapped around your neck is actually much more comfortable than you might expect. The ear buds are safe from falling out of your ears and getting lost. They hold a good charge and seem to shut off if not in use for an extended time so the battery life is saved. Other cheap brands do not shut themselves off and let the battery drain. I have taken these to work in spain, norway, iceland, canada and recently to Thailand on vacation. They have been used in the gym, offshore on a loud ship, at airports, shuttle vans, noisy hotels... I dont keep them in a case, I dont handle them gently. They are worth every penny. Could you find a more premium earbud, sure I guess. I dont see any reason to spend another penny. These check all the boxes for me, and are great for calls too. I tried other brands on Amazon and these are the best I have found for only a few bucks more than the budget ones with less features and less everything else. You cant go wrong with these! ... show more

  • It is a good buy but only at below $35 price point
Color: Black
So I really want to like this headset and there are a couple of good things about this headset. First things first, I wanted something for wearing during Teams calls that would last my entire work day without recharging. I also didn't want to spend over $35.. These headsets were on sale on Amazon and I was able to buy them for $30. Solid battery that lasts for over 12 hrs with continuous calls/music playback. Another huge plus is that I can wear them on my bike rides without the fear of losing them like those tiny pair of ear buds. These are not active noise cancelling but the rubber ear plug design keeps noise from entering my ears. Call quality is pretty good, nothing exceptional but it's clear and works without any drops. However, there are the following things against it: i. White noise: There is a definite white noise especially noticeable at low volumes. The first headset had it and I thought that may be it's a defect. So I ordered a replacement but the second one has it as well. Amazon, as always, makes replacements very convenient so no worries there. ii. Weird sound signature: Like with any headset, these have a burn in period. I would say about 20-25 hrs. Out of the box, the sound was pretty dull. The bass was there but it's recessed and the treble notes sounded veiled almost like it's struggling to reproduce the sound. So I let it play music for about 15 hrs straight. The sound has improved significantly. The sound is way fuller in a way that I can live with. I have a HD650 so I appreciate good sound. Another thing I noticed that it reproduces bass better without any enhancements. For example, I tried adjusting the bass on my S9+ (the Tube Amp Pro setting and EQ) but somehow they sound better without these adjustments. So why it's a keeper? It's wireless with mic; am not afraid of them falling from my ears; really good battery life; cost $30! I can ignore the slight white noise and my ears would eventually adapt to the sound signature. ... show more

  • Great battery, good sound (for the price)
Color: Black
I was replacing a pair of Beat Flex that I'd been using daily for about 10 months, so they're my most direct comparison. When I saw the Flex price hike, I decided to opt for a less costly alternative. I saw the limited deal price on the WI-XB400 and decided to begin a new life with a new pair of wireless buds. First Impressions Paired effortlessly with my phone, controls were intuitive enough that I didn't need to look at the instructions. (Long press on power to enter pairing mode). The design is good: the ear pods themselves are fairly low profile and protrude from the ear less than many others. If you ever rest your head sideways on a pillow while wearing your buds and feel them press uncomfortably into your ear, know that that sensation is mostly avoidable with these. The cable is long-- if you wear them necklace style, they hang pretty low. On me they fall just few inches above belly-button height. The magnets that hold the buds together aren't too strong, but they stay put and pop right together. A light tug is enough to detach them. However, they do not automatically pause when magnetically attached, which is a feature I miss. They're lightweight enough to for they're around your neck. Sound The sound quality was impressive for budget buds. They don't do much for noise isolation; I can hear a mini-fridge running through them if the device sound is anywhere below 50%-- not well suited for air travel. Both a pro and a con, you retain some situational awareness walking around in them. Harder for a vehicle to surprise you. The mids are clear and the bass is surprisingly good for what they are. I use them for streaming Spotify and podcasts, and both sound great. They do not support the Sony Headphone Connect App, so there's no sound profiles, equalizer or other customizing from Sony. Battery/Power Battery life is great-- well over a day's worth of listening and standby. More of a charge every other night type device if you use them every day. Charging is over USB C and appear to charge fairly quickly. The USB port is behind a fiddly little door which feels like something that will inevitably break off over time. So far so good-- recommended, especially at the Amazon promo price. If I run in to any durability issues within the first few months of usage I'll update the review. ... show more

  • Really really sturdy for a budget product
Color: Blue
I'm a headphone abuser. I have a thrice-priced JBL and only used it for participating meetings for 5-10 times and one side started not working. I bought these headphones earlier and not only I use them for meetings, I also use them to bed. I have a habit of listening something relaxing or funny when I go to bed. It can be some soothing music or a re-re-re-re-listen of a Friends episode. I wear these headphones to bed and roll in the bed after sleeping. I wake up with the headphones either wrapped around me or poking some body part from underneath. Even though I've abused them since I bought them, there is not even a small decrease in quality. None of the noise cancellation headphones cancel human-chatting sounds, which I need the most. Especially, when I'm in the office. So, in that department, I can't give an A+. However, I cannot give any headphone or headset A+. It cancels monotonic and machinery sounds very well but do not expect not hearing your annoying officemate or neighbor. It works very well on a plane or fans or a/c sounds. The thing is I'm not sensitive on the sounds. As a child, I recorded songs from the radio and sometimes I caught a song I loved at a very noisy station. Even then, I used to record the song on a cassette and listen to it over and over again. (Oops, age reveal) To me, if I don't hear statics and I can hear the instruments clear enough to separate which is which, I'm good to go. So, the sound quality is very good for me. Obviously, much better than the one-side-working JBL. So, if you're looking for a flac-quality sound, this may not be it. Also, this may be it. I really don't know much about sound quality. I only realize it when it's bad. I don't have much of a spectrum on the good. For calls, if I'm inside, I had no problems but if I was outside, the microphone picked up the ambient sound and I had to get the microphone closer to my mouth to be understood. The hearing section wasn't affected by being in or out, but the microphone did. I had no problems with jogging with them. They didn't fall off. Maybe it's about ear shape. The default cushions fit me, and sometimes they don't and hurt. Maybe changing the cushions will enable/disable falling off. There are better headphones I believe but for this price range, it has a great quality/price ratio, If these ones ever break down, I'll buy them again. ... show more

  • Fine headphones, not great
Color: Black
These are perfectly decent headphones, though not particularly suited for heavy activity and use. I bought them to wear at work, which involves a lot of moving, walking and general physical activity for at least 8 hours a day. This is where the battery shines. I've been able to get through 2 days on one charge, and other times have made it mostly through 2 days before the battery ran out. The battery low notification is also very unobtrusive, which I appreciate. You can generally get about 30 minutes of use past the low battery notification. My issues with these headphones are mostly with some design flaws that don't really impede use. They are more annoying than anything, and stand out much stronger to me as I use them for such a long period. As some other reviewers have pointed out, the two sides are not balanced in weight. The side with the battery is heavier. I often leave only one headphone in so I can listen to the world around me, and if I do this with the left side the right side will slide around the back of my neck. The in-ear cushions are very flimsy and not very comfortable, though not painful. I wish it had a power switch instead of a button so you can know whether they're off or on without having the headphones in. The battery percentage seems very arbitrary, as I have only heard it report "fully charged" and "70%", and it seems to have no bearing on the actual remaining battery life. I would not say they have particularly good noise cancellation, but then that's not a feature I use. The magnet is so weak to be functionally useless. They don't snap together unless you hold both and put them together like two legos, and when you do have them attached they will separate with the slightest force. In summary: these are fine headphones with fine sound quality. If you need them for occasional exercise or housework, I'm sure they'll work perfectly. If you plan on using them daily for more than 2 or 3 hours at a time, I feel like they're too annoying to recommend. However annoying they are, I will be keeping mine and using them until they break. ... show more

  • Compared to 3 other sets that all cost $300...
Color: Black
So I also have Bose ($300), Beats ($300) and LG ($300)... these Sony earbuds beats them all hands down. 1. The sound. In the set I got, the sound is phenomenal. Much better than any of my others by far. The bass is is great! The highs, lows and mids are all where I like them. They also are loud! Now I know this is bad for my hearing, but I like my music loud. The only thing that sounds better are my $500 studio headphones and of course nothing beats those. 2. Battery life. I use these EVERY day for 11+ hours listening to music. Yes I actually use them that much. At the end of my work day, when I check, I still have a 50% charge. They say 15 hours, but the set I have lasts WAY longer under hard use. 3. These are super durable. I'm rough on them and they show no signs of wear. I loved them so much when I first tried them that I immediately ordered a second pair, just in case. So far, the second pair is still collecting dust in my drawer. The Bose, Beats and LG fell apart after several months. Sony has proven you can get a quality Bluetooth headset at a more than fair price. I was able to pick my up for $31, but wouldn't hesitate to pay $50+ for these. If you're on the fence, I say pull the trigger. As far as the negative reviews, I'm really not sure what they are complaining about. I must have magically gotten two of the good pairs because I really do love these. My husband has a similar Sony pair and he loves his too. Part of me wants to buy a couple more, just in case, but I honestly don't see these not lasting. Advice... do like one reviewer did and criss cross them in front. I tried his suggestion and it definitely makes these even more perfect. ... show more
