    • A fun and fascinating little Speaker
I purchased two of these as a gift for my niece. I purchased 2 because they can be used a stereo set. I've taken a while to review them because I had not seen or heard them in person, but a few days ago I bought 2 for myself (I like bluetooth speakers the way some people like shoes!) The features list is short, this is a bluetooth speaker, it charges via USB C, it has one upward firing driver and a downward facing passive radiator, it does not use an app for any of its functions. On the speaker itself are a power button, a bluetooth pairing button (which also serves and the stereo pairing button), a play/pause button and volume up and down buttons. this is a purely bluetooth speaker it does not have an auxilary input. Sony has done a great job designing this speaker, it doesn't distort at full volume and gets louder than it seems at first, there is the impression of a bit of base, but it's a pretty small speaker with a pretty small driver so it can only move so much air, that being said, it's a fascinating little device, when it's working and you pick it up you can really feel it thump and bump, voices and musical instruments sound clear and reasonably full. honestly, these have a full and engaging sound that will make you want to get up and dance (if you're so inclined) or sing along with your favorite artist, when 2 are paired together the sound only gets better, they play as a stereo pair, one plays the left channel the other plays the right. They are so easy to use that I only skimmed the instructions to make sure I wasn't missing anything. There is no indication which speaker is the which channel, however, it seems that when in stereo pair mode the speaker with the blue bluetooth light is the left channel. Small speakers by their nature will not rock as loud or as hard as larger speakers, but the best small speakers are true to the spirit of the music, and these little guys are true to the music. ... show more

I did not buy this expecting the bass to bother the neighbors, or drive a party. I bought this sound unheard because of the size, waterproofness, and USB-C charging. I trusted in Sony to make a decent sounding personal speaker and its exactly that. Bought one salmon and one blue, when you pair these the sound is even better. In my office, kitchen, or outside by the grill these are perfect...or maybe I'm just too old to listen to my music really loud, but these work for me. Update: These are directional! At least I think I can hear a difference, I found the best sound is below the ears on a desk(right under my monitor). Turn so the strap is away from you, if you look the ports on the bottom are blocked under the strap so it makes sense sound is directed out the opposite open side? My desk is a solid top on metal legs, the top vibrates when cranked up adding to the "sound". 🙉 ... show more

    • Okay sound quality, not loud at all.
Was very annoying to pair with my phone. Stuff would pop up on the phone and then disappear before I could pair. Bluetooth scan couldn't find the speaker and I'm using a $1200 phone. Eventually I was able to pair the speaker by turning it off, turning my phone's BT off and then turning the speaker back on and allowing the speaker to turn on the BT on it's own. Just bizarre and wonky. Any other speakers I've used have all been able to pair much more easily. Weirdly, this speaker uses your email address. I don't know how they get access to that or why they need that information just to use a speaker. Anyway, sound quality is just okay, not great. The max volume is not loud at all. This is definitely an indoor speaker made to be used at a desk or something similar for quiet listening. I bought it to use for road cycling, but you're not going to be able to hear this speaker over the wind, even at full volume. I compared this speaker to a similar one that I purchased at Wal-Mart for a measly $10. The $10 speaker is actually a little louder, but the Sony speaker has better sound quality. TLDR: this speaker is a little over priced, has average sound quality, doesn't get very loud and is difficult to pair to new devices. 4 stars for portability, color options and battery life. ... show more

    • As a long time JBL user...
Good evening, As a long time JBL user (I have the JBL Clip 3 and JBL 650BTNC wireless over-the-ear headphones), I decided to get this Sony Bluetooth speaker because: 1. I wanted to try something different. 2. It was cheaper than than the Clip 4 at the time I was looking for a new speaker. 3. Sony has better quality in sounds and audio devices. Review after having it for two weeks: It definitely is better in terms of higher pitches. The sound quality is clearer and I haven't needed to charge it yet after two weeks (uses it about every day or other day for 3 hours on average). The build is not the rugged type like my JBL Clip 3, so I bought a silicone cover ($12). I like to have that extra protection just in case. The shape of the device is not bad, I like that it can stand on its own and I can hang it because of the strap. I like the removeable strap, and how it comes with the same color as the speaker. It is a little wider than a regular plastic bottle so, if you have a water bottle pocket on your backpack it fits there perfectly, or simply use the strap.     • Perfect small speaker for mother-in-law
My mother-in-law loves music, but doesn't have room for a stereo system in her small apartment, so she listens to music on her computer. This was relatively easy to set up via Bluetooth so now she can play her favorite songs with better sound. It's too soon to rate battery life, but I believe it will be just fine for her use. Heavy on the bass, but not a deal-breaker for casual listening. Can't beat the price, either! ... show more
