  • Pro level at an accessible price
Style: w/ 28-70mm Set: Base
Compared to the 2 Canon DSLRs I have owned in the past, it blows them out of the water in terms of auto focus speed and accuracy. For low light, I've never seen anything like it in the consumer market, not counting the A7s ii which I haven't tried yet. The version that I bought came with the kit lens and it's performance is fine. It's not the best to use for the ultimate low light capabilities, but it's reliable enough. Interestingly enough, the kit lens even has firmware that you can update. I have successfully used my Canon glass with it using a Simga MC-11 adapter. The Canon 17-40mm f4L and Canon 70-200 f2.8L focused quickly. My Sigma 8-16mm lens focused well, though it's meant for APS-C sensors. Oddly enough my Canon 50mm 1.4 paired with the A7iii and Sigma MC-11 takes about a minute or two before the aperature control is functional but once it kicks in, this combo turns night into day. I also use a 35mm 1.8 OSS Sony lens that I used with my a5100 and even though it puts it into APS-C mode which sacrifices quality, it's still good enough. I can even use my Canon 580ex ii successfully with this (manual mode/no HSS) with a Fomex flash trigger. The reason I bought this however was for video. 4k is stunning, though I have to say, plan for paying a but extra for a UHS-II card to get it to work. The S&Q setting is nice for switching over to slow-mo very quickly. The menu system is a bit much but at least it includes a lot of features that are missing with Canon. Battery performance is quite incredible. Overall, I can't see why this camera wouldn't satisfy most pros unless they work in a harsh environment in which case, the weather sealing probably won't be enough. The compact size of it though is nice when you don't want to draw attention. ... show more

  • Great and best buy to deiver to Japan
Style: w/ 28-70mm Set: Base
I fall in love with this camera from many reasons : - I'm living in Japan and actually I was able to save 800$ to buy it in USA and deliver to Japan vs ENG version availble here. In Japan is top of that limitation only in two possibilities, buy overseas version which has ENG/Japanese only or local (600$ cheaper vs overseas) with Japanese only. With delivery fees from Sony store and customs fee, I was able to save anyway 800 $ in total :). - full size camera made in 2018 with briliant properties comparing other cameras even made today - first selection was Canon EOS R6, which has amazing ergonomy and properties , but price was incredible high. - lens is simply great, I wanted lens from Tamron, but as for beginners, current selection is enough for urban and portrait. It'll worth to buy also telescopic lens too. Pictures, auto-focus, or even touching focus and manual management is great. Only dislike is complexity of menu, but once is set, that is great ... show more

  • Literally Makes Me Hate Photography
Style: w/ 28-70mm Set: Base
I've had this camera for about 10 months now and it is probably the worst photographic decision I have ever made. I only wish I could have returned it while I had the chance. Let me start of by saying I've been a professional photographer for 15 years and mostly photograph models in a studio setting or outdoors. I use natural light and also strobes. I started with Nikon, went to a Canon 5dmkii, have had other canons and also 3 fuji x series cameras Firstly, what kind of company ships a $2000 camera without a battery charger? I get it, it can plug into your computer to charge or car adapter via USB-C. But that means more wear and tear on the USB port which will eventually be loose and then have issues. When I get home I prefer to take my battery out and put it on the charger which will tell me when its charged. Second. I read all the reviews who talked about the poor color science and then all the videos who said all the things you had to do to fix it. I never realized how bad it actually is. When I would view my photos from my canon in camera raw or capture one I was only one click away from getting an accurate representation of what I had originally seen. Sony has its own version of Capture One (I also use the pro version) and the images look like garbage from the moment they appear on the screen. they even look worse then what you get in Lightroom. The next issue is the awful menus. Do I need to be the next person to complain about the menus? ISO is on page 9 of the menu. White Balance on page 12. Sure, you can set a custom quick menu, but I would have expected updates to make it better. Another thing I was kind of surprised about were the files sizes. I guess I kind of thought they would be like my Canon where a 24 megapixel image had a raw file of 24 megabytes. I did not expect the raw files to be double that. a typical raw file on the Sony is about 48 megabytes, and the matching jpeg is 12 MB. I just can't stand shooting with this camera and the struggle of working on the images. Luckily I'm not too heavily invested in the Sony ecosystem so I can change back to Canon or even Fuji ... show more

I love this camera and I found it with a discount and couldn’t be more happy to finally own one of these. The video quality is amazing, I mostly record in 4k and with the right light settings you can get really good quality content. I would also recommend you to invest in quality SD cards for better recording. ... show more
