The media could not be loaded. I've read about Sonos speakers but had never owned one. The price of admission into the Sonos environment is fairly high, but definitely worth it from my experience with this Sonos play speaker. The packaging is both "green" in using plain brown cardboard but still manages to feel elegant, and there are simple instructions included. This speaker comes with a charging base. There's a long life battery built in for use away from the charging base making it truly portable. The Play speaker is beautifully finished, with a metal grill and rubberized top and bottom. It's heavy and feels very solid and well built. Since this speaker has voice assistant capability there is a microphone array on the top (the small holes visible). There's a rubber strap on the back of the speaker for carrying, and there's a bluetooth pairing button and a switch to turn off the microphones and a power button. The first step is to download the Sonos app from your OS App Store, in my case Android. I wasn't sure what to expect, as sometimes even good products have poorly executed apps, but the Sonos app was just about perfect. It made it incredibly easy to get the Play set up and perform an automatic tuning to my room using the built-in microphones. The app has a simple layout and not an overwhelming number of settings, and if you want to find something it's intuitive enough that you'll find it. It also tells you when you want to do something that isn't going to work, like pair speakers that are two different types. You can add a voice assistant you're already using, or the Sonos version. I added Alexa and it was very easy to do. I have a variety of bluetooth speakers, but this Sonos Play is at an entirely different level of quality and sound. I also bought a larger Sonos speaker without microphones and wanted to try pairing that with the Play speaker, but because of the significant differences it was not allowed to join them as a stereo pair-the app explained that issue. But the app also allowed me to add both speakers to one room and then select play all and then they would play-both separately and not as a stereo left and right. The other way I found to play both at the same time was to press and hold the pause key on the larger speaker and it would then match what was playing on the Play portable speaker. This Play model speaker has the best quality sound of any bluetooth portable speaker I've heard. It has amazing sound quality, with clear full range sound and no distortion even at loud volume. Lows are very good, vocals crystal clear and highs crisp and not tinny. Sonos did a great job balancing the sound, and the tuning works very well to match the room acoustics. The voice assistant works well and is sensitive. Yes, it is expensive, but if you appreciate great engineering, superb sound quality and an easy to use well made app, then this Sonos Play should be at the top of your list to consider when looking for a portable speaker. ... show more

Sonos does it again! What a great product this portable speaker is. The Play fills in that middle tier for their portable speaker line. While I love the Roams as well, the Play really outperforms them in terms of battery life and sound quality. Being a bit bigger, Sonos can put bigger speakers inside of it, and you can tell. The treble is sharp and crisp and the bass is deep and not muddy. Now, it’s not going to compare to your theatre sub, or any of the dedicated Sonos subs, but for a portable speaker that you can bring outside; it hits the mark and then some. Speaking of bringing it outside, the whole thing is shock proof, so it can handle a small tumble or drop and it’s also water and dust proof, so bring it to the pool, bring it to backyard or park bbqs, no need to worry if the Play gets wet. It has a built in strap to carry around with or use to hang it on something if wanted, which is nice. It is removable if you want, but comes attached from the factory. The Play has an advertised 24hr playtime which makes it much longer than the Roam. It also has a USB-C port on it which you can use to charge your device in a pinch if you needed. When the battery does run low, it’s super easy to recharge. Just place the speaker on the included charging dock and that's it! How great that it comes with the charging dock as well, no need to purchase an additional dock! This speaker integrates perfectly with your Sonos system, or if this is your first speaker, gives you the flexibility to use the Sonos app to stream music straight to the speaker, or you can Airplay to the speaker from your phone or HomePods with the included AirPlay 2 protocol, or use bluetooth when away from your home wifi to stream anywhere you go. So versatile to use wherever you want. I was impressed when I started playing music with this speaker and I’m so excited to use it this summer when were out and about or hanging out with friends outside in the backyard or whatever. If you’re looking for an excellent sounding portable speaker, but don’t want to lose any streaming protocols (like Airplay 2), look no further than this amazing new addition to the Sonos lineup! ... show more
