This is a good set of snap ring pliers for occassional use, and I like that I can unscrew the bolt and switch them between opening outward or closing inward. That versatility is really useful. However, the screw tends to loosen quickly during use. When I first received the set, all the screws were loose and rattling around in the case, so I had to tighten everything before using them. The blow mold case isn't molded correctly for some of the pliers and they have a tendency to come loose in the case. I also noticed that some of the pliers open slightly offset from each other, see picture. I’m not sure if that’s just how this design works or if it’s a machining issue, but when trying to remove some snap rings, they occasionally pop off unexpectedly. Overall, the set works, but it has a few quirks that take some getting used to.

This kit contains seven ‘varieties’ of these pliers (size, direction 4 straight, 4 bent), length) as well as a hook and pick. The hook and pick handles a low quality. The pliers are made of chrome-valadium steel, so though thin, they feel durable. The handles are thin vinyl so they are not the most comfortable pliers to squeeze tightly. They each feature switch knobs to adjust the direction of the prongs when the handle is squeezed. The case is thin molded plastic and the kit arrived with most of the pliers lying loose in the case. The case has the sizes labeled, but the pliers are not, so they must be visually assessed when selecting. I could not get them to stay in the case, so I abandoned it for a zippered bag. PRECISE RATING: 3.25 (decent at doing what I need, would probably do further research, but then perhaps buy again). Still a decent value considering almost any scenario you encounter should be able to be addressed by this assortment. RECOMMENDATION: If you occasionally need to work with snap rings, I can recommend acquiring this kit to address the majority of your needs. However, if you frequently have need for them, I might suggest getting a different grade of the specific size you need, being most attentive to handle comfort. (As always, I will report back if there are any durability or performance issues with additional use.) Each one has a knurled pivot screw that loosens while you use them. These are much worse than budget tool store ones.

Finally got a chance to use these, and they work as advertised! The grips are fairly comfortable and make the tool feel more durable. I think the little picks add some value to the kit. Having an assortment of these tools around is very handy. I never KNOW when I'm going to encounter a snap ring, but I have this case on my rolling tool cart for when I do. The size of the case is perfect for slotting into the bottom shelf of my cart.

These snap ring pliers seem sturdy and feature a screw mechanism to switch between internal and external snap ring use. However, the flat handles aren’t very ergonomic. I wish they were thicker for a more solid grip. Another issue is the blow-molded case. The one I received wasn’t the same as pictured in the description, and the pliers arrived rattling around loosely in the case, making it frustrating to figure out how to put them back properly. While I do like these pliers, I also own a more universal set from a name brand that has interchangeable tips and switches between internal and external with the flip of a switch. Though I’m not a fan of keeping track of all the easy-to-lose tips, my other pliers are both more ergonomic and take up less space. I’ll probably keep these around for larger or more difficult snap rings, but for most jobs, I’ll stick with my other set.
