Excellent for youngsters, Highly recommended with caveats. (see full review)
My boy has been playing with this non-stop since we got it. It does take a little help sometimes to snap in if your child is young (under 8). The diagrams can sometimes be confusing. Not fully clear. And the pictures can sometimes confuse the situation even further. (they are not very clear and too small.) There are no step by step instructions. Instead they give you a general idea of what to do but you have to figure the rest out. For older and more advanced kids this should be no problem, but for less advanced you'll need someone to help. The last critical point is that the circuits are not fully explained. It's more "press the button and see what happens." This is fun of course and there is some theory on what is actually happening but it's more general and not specific. I have a strong background on electronics, so maybe my expectations are a bit too high. ;-) Still recommended.

Perfect STEM educational game
This is SO COOL! I honestly can not rave about this enough. My (almost) nine year old wants to be a NASA engineer and I am so glad I got this for him. It is fairly easy to use and has loads of projects that he can do without the help or supervision of an adult (although many still do require supervision even if they can do it alone!) My son has already completed about 10 projects since Christmas 2018 and he really loves it. The instructions are very easy to follow and so are the guides. I love how each project explains what is happening on the switch board and why. He is learning so much from one toy, it's incredible!

It is a nice starter kit to get your kids in on electrical circuits and the like. The projects are nice - some are repetitions with minor circuit modifications. Dont expect your kids to do all 70+ of them. If you get to around half that itself the kit is a success. It does provide hours of experimental learning time. Some - an adult will be needed. UNderstanding some circuits do take some time. the picture is not very descriptive of how to get it done using the available parts - at least the complicated ones. They do take some trial and error but that was the fun element for us- remember it is learning through play and not a competition to get all of them right. I do plan to get other kits with other elements included next time.

Initially I bought Snap-Circuits for my 4 and 5 year old boys. I found the collection of capacitors, resistors, integrated circuit modules, and transistors was a little too abstract, and I was thinking I really wanted more stuff like electro-magnets, relays, motors, generators, switches, potentiometers, and maybe resistive loads like light bulbs and diodes -- more basic electrical stuff, of which there's some in the circuit kits but not a lot. My boys are 5 and 6 now. I added Snaptricity to our collection of mostly unexplored Snap-Circuits, and suddenly they're creating all kinds of basic circuits with switches, buttons, lights, motors, and electro-magnets. They're starting to understand the flow of electricity, polarity, magnetism, and resistance (as they add more loads to their circuits). I've set the transistors and stuff aside for now, because there's tons of stuff to do with these more basic components first. For older children, they might be ready for the electronic components sooner, but with my younger kids, these electrical parts are great. We do not follow the instructions. So it helps to have extra components on hand instead of the minimum number required for the book experiments. Some of our circuits are more than elegant and minimalist. I recommend buying two kits, or this kit and another one like the 100 or 300. The brilliant thing about these components is the incredibly simple and effective button snap-connectors. The only downside to these components is they are encased in plastic for durability. The plastic is clear so the internal components can be seen. This is really a good thing, but it's worthwhile to have a coil/electromagnet that is un-encased, as well as a speaker/microphone (electromagnet with a diaphragm) that is not encased, and a motor that can be disassembled/dissected.

Gave this as a gift to a 9 yr old and loved it! In this generation when all they play is the ipad, it's refreshing to see kids tinkering and figuring out stuff like this circuitry set. My 6 yr old has the jr set and loves it. Upgraded hers from sc 100 to 300. But when we saw this set, it doesn't have the same parts and projects as hers. This ones has a compass, magnet and magnetic powder to name a few. She loves playing with her jr snapcircuits so this particular set is also going on her wishlist! It's a great gift and toy!

Perfect for a 5yo girl just getting into electronics!
Our 5 year old daughter surprised us at another kid’s birthday party by really liking an electricity set, so we thought we’d try this one out at home. She LOVES it. I like that the instructions are user friendly (even for a layman like me) and it is set up to explain in different methods (ie: written instructions, step-by-step, a diagram), so many different learning types would benefit from this set. Great purchase.

Hit of the party
Got this for my 9 year old great nephew and he started playing with it immediately at his bday party. He had seen it before and was thrilled to have one. His mother had suggested only outdoor sports and toys but I am "that" Aunt - they all have way too many toys and I will only buy educational or books.
