I'm glad I chose the Smittybilt X20 gen 3. The installation was a breeze, I did have a technical question which customer service was excellent at answering. The winch works as advertised, and is easy to operate. I saw some reviews where people were unable to unspool the rope; if you follow the directions this isn't an issue, at least for me it wasn't. I had to use the winch a few times so far; not for recovery, just moving fallen trees off the trail. So far it's serving it's purpose.

This is my second Smittybilt winch, first a Gen 2 10k (used for 5 years) and now a Gen 3 12k (used 6 mths) both with synthetic cable . They are very well made and dependable so I would call them excellent guality. Wireless or cable remote work very well. Cost is fair and reasonable.

This is the 2nd SmittyBilt winch I've owned. I sold my Jeep and left the first winch on it. I liked it so well, I didn't hesitate to buy this one for my Gladiator. For the features this winch has and the capability of it, I can't find another winch in this price point that compares to it. It's an excellent winch with a mid-range, budget friendly price point. SmittyBilt Gen 3 winches carry a lifetime mechanical warranty and a 5-year electrical warranty so nothing to be scared of there. I think the closest competitor to this winch is the Badlands Apex, which seems like a solid winch for the money coming in slightly lower in price than the SB but the Badlands winch only comes with a 90 day warranty according the HF's website. The SmittyBilt Gen 3 winch is ready to go right out of the box, just wire it up, bolt it up and go. The controller works well wired or wirelessly. It checks all the boxes for me. And it looks great as well.

I recently installed the Smittybilt Gen 3 12K winch on my 2023 Jeep Gladiator using a JCR winch plate, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. This winch has proven itself to be a reliable and powerful recovery tool. The 12,000 lb pulling capacity handles my Jeep and all my off-road gear with ease, and it hasn’t struggled even in tough recovery scenarios. The combination of the Smittybilt Gen 3 and the JCR winch plate was straightforward to install, with no compatibility issues. The winch’s faster line speed and the wireless remote have made a noticeable difference during recoveries—saving both time and hassle. Installation wasn’t bad at all. Got it for a descent price. Build quality seems really good. I bought this to replace a Traveller 12,000# winch from Tractor Supply, and this is a beast compared to it! I use my winches for tree work, and I did a single line pull, and had a tree that was about 8 inches diameter snap off about a foot and a half from the ground without a struggle. I try to get roots and all but it didn’t fair so well that time. It seems to reel in at about twice the speed of the TS winch. Hopefully, with the forged gears this one holds up to my torture. Pretty good looking winch, with an illuminated bar on the front of the control box, along with a wireless/wired remote. The hook is pretty big also. The synthetic rope is very light and easy to work with. The cables are a little short, so if you have over about 6’ to go you’ll need to get different wires, but overall I love it so far! They could improve it with a led bar over the spool. Night time work you have to use the integrated flashlight to see the spool.

Only used it one time so far but it worked out great. I have it mounted on a 2023 chevy 3500 diesel and it pulled me no problem. I did use one snatch block but that was mainly just to stop any unnecessary drag or rubbing on the line. At the time my truck was pretty loaded up and was likely weighting well over 10,000lbs And I have to add the remote will work from way further away than what the manual says it will. Also the synthetic line is great no issues with binding like steal cable will do if your not careful. So far I am very happy with my purchase.

I had a hard time even given it 4 stars, my problem with the winch is the USB cord that connects to charge and use the winch corded and not remoutless. The USB cord is very thin and hard to keep connected if you are trying to charge the remote. Otherwise the winch seems to be good quality and works well.
