Smart Wool socks are a favorite at our house. We live in a climate that gets VERY cold in winter and VERY hot and humid in summer. Wool wicks moisture away from the skin so we use very light wool socks for summer hiking and chilly nights and the lovely medium of heavy weight smart wool for winter. These medium weight are for my spouse's work needs. He has to go into a non-heated building and has to climb metal stairs so needs some cushion for the feet. These do not slip in his work boots because the insole has a little stretchy fiber added in with the wool (it is what makes the socks a SMART design. They were the first to make socks this way - others have copied the idea. Smart Wool does it PERFECT. The socks also have fuzzy loops in the areas a person needs more warmth or more cushion and it is so lovely. I have my own smart wool socks and get an average of five years good use out of each pair by washing on cold water (gentle cycle) and air drying overnight. (I just place the pairs over a hanger in a place where the air circulates well. Cold air or Fluff dry works but our dryer is not the programmable kind so I have to remember to keep restarting it. It is easier for me to just place the damp socks over a simple hanger and wait till morning. My spouse if harder on socks and gets about three years out of a pair. If you need functional warmth and comfort and are willing to cold wash, these are great socks - the best really.

These are cushy and warm socks. I’ve had several pair for probably 15 years and they’re still serviceable. There’s nothing like wool! It breathes and insulates like nothing else.

I enjoy a good sock and do not mind spending a bit more for quality. I purchased a pair from a retail outlet to try and liked them. I wear the socks daily and have purchased an additional 3 pairs. These socks pair well with my Merrill’s (pun intended) and my work boots. They wick moisture well and dry fast. My feet do not feel hot using these socks. I am a bit picky about my foot comfort and these socks work well for me.
