This filter is a good alternative circular VND filters when shooting video. I bought this for my SmallRig Mini Matte Box 3196, and I will buy another because when shooting outside in midday, even without direct light hitting my subject, my shot was still over exposed for my camera settings. If I am using the lower quality video settings and not shooting internal raw or log footage, my ISO is usually around 80-100. Otherwise it starts at 800 which of course brights up the scene as it makes it more sensitive to light. Depending on whether you want slow motion footage and the amount of depth of field that you may want in the scene, you may not want to change those other settings. When I shot later in the day outside and when I shot inside with natural light coming in from a window, the filter served its purpose well. However, I know I will need to buy another. I already purchased an extra filter holder which conveniently slides in front of the original one. It is the SmallRig Filter Tray 3319. I didn't see any color shift when I used it, just a deeper sky with more contrast and less light on the people in the scene. I'll be updating this review with additional usage. When building out a rig, a matte box is a non negotiable. Some quality ND filters break the bank! These seem expensive until you start comparing products. These claim to be water and oil resistant. I only use them in very controlled environments. Using an ND will help you stay at the recommended native ISO for your camera. Mine is 800 ISO. ... show more

Quality glass, not IRND but that's okay for what you pay. I haven't noticed any color cast what so ever with these ND filters. Miles better than circular VND filters, just a little less convenient to change stops. I'd recommend them to anyone.

This ND Filter was perfect for a corporate shoot i just did in a very bright office. The sunlight was coming in through the huge windows causing my image to be way over exposed so this ND Filter was perfect. Fits perfectly in my Smallrig Matte Box.
