Description

Sleeping Gods: Distant Skies from Red Raven Games invites your group into a new chapter of dreamy exploration and cooperative storytelling. Set in the same universe as the original Sleeping Gods but designed as a complete experience, this campaign driven board game lets 1 to 4 players wander through a richly illustrated atlas, meeting unusual characters, accepting quests, and slowly uncovering the mysteries of a fantastical world. Each page of the atlas is a location filled with passages to read and choices to make. You might hike through misty valleys, rest at lonely outposts, search ruins for lost relics, or negotiate with beings that feel ancient and strange. A new action system shapes how you travel, camp, and solve problems, giving your group more ways to decide what matters most in each moment. Alongside exploration, Distant Skies introduces a refreshed combat system. Players build and manage a combat deck, drawing cards that create a small tactical puzzle every time danger appears. How you combine abilities, assign damage, and support one another affects both the outcome of the battle and the story that follows.

  • Standalone Expansion
Very fun exploration game. I think it is a little easier and quicker than the original, but no less enjoyable. The story is a continuation of the first game. I like the new airplane mechanic that allows to to travel the map quicker. The new characters are fun to use and they don't get fatigued as the characters in the first game. The art is just as thematic and vibrant and there are boss fights in the booklet which are fun to fight. There are also mini-bosses and side quests which I really love. Both games are just as fun with better mechanics in Distant Skies, but I still prefer the first game's difficulty a little more. Distant Skies arguably plays better solo than the original. Great fun and worth every dime of its pricetag for amount of content and fun included. ... show more

  • Very Engaging and Great New Mechanics Very Engaging and Great New Mechanics
If you came from the original Sleeping Gods, you will especially appreciate this new version. The more I think about it, the more I realize how great the new game mechanics are. I think the camping mechanic makes this game so much more playable. In the original game I felt like I had to be much more conservative about exploring because it would impact the end game timer, but now doing those one off explores is much more feasible, and the same goes for traveling. So there's more freedom in this game to explore and travel which makes it more fun, but also still challenging for example traveling with the plane can incur damage and spent fuel, and traveling on foot can incur damage when encountering treacherous terrain, in addition if you waste too much time then you will be forced to encounter more events which can also hurt you. I think there's a really nice balance here, the game's mechanics also feel rooted in common sense which makes them easy to learn. I think the mechanics are also more engaging, for example before when you visited a city you basically were going through several paragraphs in the story book, but now there's a "wandering explore" which gives you a poster style photo that makes this part of the game much more realistic and memorable. Also, in general the game is much more dynamic, for instance, in the last game I could exploit the same weapons/abilities/adventure cards, but now you are forced to rotate those which is more challenging, but also more realistic and requires more strategy. Definitely buy this game, have fun exploring, making hard choices, coming up with battle strategies, and building up your character abilities!! ... show more

  • Not for me.
I’ll give it four stars because of the quality and depth that it apparently has. But I am not gonna play some 10 to 20 hour continuous campaign, mainly by myself. Watched somebody’s review and said that two players is even a little difficult. One player?? 10 to 20 hour campaign… no thanks. I wish I had known that before I purchased it. Now I gotta return it. 😵💫 ... show more

  • Great game!
Open world games can be hit or miss...this is a hit. Great story and fun combat. The game can take hours to complete if you want to really go on a journey. It is a bit of a table hog so be advised.
