  • absorbs a LOT
This bilge sponge absorbs a LOT of water and is really easy to wring out. I highly recommend.

  • Very good bilge sponge
I think I had given this product a negative review when I believe I had done it just a bit too soon. At first, this sponge did NOT soak up anything. It was like water was repelled by the entire unit. The microfiber exterior seemed to shed water and the sponge on the inside did not hold any water at all. I had gone through a bone-sponge, the bone-sponge I bought sure as heck did NOT last anywhere near as long as a bone sponge I had from many-many years ago but I did so because this Skwoosh bilge sponge did not soak up anything at all, that is, until this summer. Somehow, the sponge just flat out worked-finally. My wife had said that somehow, possibly during production, there is some sort of coating that is left on either the microfiber cover or the sponge inside, or that it all just needed some time for the materials to get "good" at sucking up water and the time is now. It does soak up a great amount of water and the yellow cover still comes clean either after wiping up all the water on the deck that never wants to find the scupper, or the dirty-ish bilge water that is always gray and sometimes moldy. A quick hand rub with the hose and the yellow covering is clean and the sponge is soaking up water really, really well. When the sponge I have now goes bad, or the covering breaks-which I don't see happening as it seems to be really thick, I'll buy another one. ... show more

  • Good for light use
It is what it is. For $16 don't expect a lot. It is absorbant after you break it in for a while. Initially, the outer chamois layer is not very absorbant. You have to press the sponge into the water (which pushes out the air) and then the sponge will soak the water in. Sitting in my kayak and paddling, this is a bit aggravating. I want to drop the sponge in the water and have it automatically absorb. After a good bit of usage, it will start absorbing on its own. Therein is the problem. After you break the sponge in, it's on a limited lifespan at this point. Mine only lasted 3 trips and the outer layer completely tore off. Granted, I may be a little more rough because I do paddle some rough water with rapids and I used the sponge a lot. It does hold 32 oz of water. I actually tested that. Although my yellow cover is now gone I will still use the sponge. For recreational occasional use, it's a good sponge. If you are more hardcore, just expect it's not going to last very long. ... show more

  • Great product!
This was great! I got it for a night kayak adventure on a lake. We had big boats going by very fast, and causing wake that would splash into our kayaks. I would just soak up the water with my Skwoosh, and squeeze it out. It worked perfectly. And, because it had a strap, I could attach it to the netting on the front of the kayak, and not worry about it falling off, or losing it. Worked perfect for me and I was very glad that I found this, and made the purchase. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • This is pretty small.
This is smaller than expected. I should have gotten a big sponge at the hardware, or automotive store.

  • Well worth the money
I was trepidatious about spending more than ten dollars on a sponge but a friend pointed out its Safety gear for kayaking so I bit the bullet and ordered it. I must say that it has been worth the expense. In salt water a dollar store sponge wouldn't have held up and this Skwoosh sponge really soaks up the water! I was and still am amazed at how well this Skwoosh sponge really works, it takes on a huge amount of water and drys my kayak cockpit down to the last drop. I think the tide actually rose a little when I was done ringing it out, lol. It seems to be quite durable so far as well. I have to recommend this Skwoosh Bilge Sponge highly and add that I have never seen anything like it. Well worth the money. ... show more
