  • Pleasantly surprised with these as a Sony XM6 user
Color: Cement
This is going to be a long review based on 1 week of use from someone who is not an audiophile, and values ANC and comfort the most! I also will be comparing it to the Sony XM6's. For some basic info, I have only had 1 pair of cheap, on-ear, Skullcandy headphones when I was around 11 or 12, so this is my first time really using any of their newer headphones. I also had a pair of KEF MU 7's that I was a big fan of and liked the bass on, but they were heavy and not super comfortable for long periods of time. I chose these for a few reasons, one being; I really like the look of these, they just look really cool to me! I listen to rock a lot and RNB, and honestly just a little bit of everything. My favorite songs and a majority of the ones in my playlist are more bass-heavy. The 60 hour battery life was also appealing to me, as I use these almost every day for long periods of time. I bought them on sale for $200, so I truthfully was not expecting to be as impressed as I am! I work in a warehouse 5-6 days a week, 8-9 hours, it is very loud all the time. I am always moving for the most part or at least standing all day. We are only allowed to have one ear covered and the other ear must remain visible. Even with that rule, the ANC on these is very good, I would honestly say it is on par with the XM6's, or at least I don't feel like the XM6's are noticeably better, even though those are generally considered the best in the game for ANC. It significantly helps mitigate the noise from the conveyer belts and other loud noises happening constantly. During break time, we can use headphones normally, and these successfully block out conversations happening around me or traffic from people walking around. I would have to try them on an airplane or something to really see how well these do, (something I haven't done even with the XM6's), but the warehouse is definitely louder than normal city traffic and these do a fantastic job at blocking out the noise. For comfort, these are pretty good. The top of the headband is super squishy, and the ear cups are much squishier and thicker than the XM6's. I do have 3rd party ear cups for my XM6's, I would say those are more comfortable, but you can buy the same ones for these, and out-of-the-box these are definitely more comfortable. As I mentioned, I have to have 1 ear visible at work, so that being said I have to switch between both the ears because it get's to be too much pressure otherwise, but I think that will be the case with any headphones for a situation like mine. Next up; the bass! I saw in the reviews here some people weren't impressed with it, and as I've never had any other Crusher headphones I can't compare it to those, but comparing to the XM6's, it's 100% better. I personally find when the dial is cranked all the way up, it's too much for me! You can feel the bass and I really like that it's adjustable. For the sound quality overall, it is very good, again I don't notice my XM6's sounding much better. I also like the spatial feature on these in the app settings! I will also say these are LOUD, half way volume is much too loud for me, in a quiet environment, I only need the volume to be up like 2-3 notches. Some other smaller things, I REALLY like the physical buttons. I found the XM6's swipe controls to work fine and liked them, but the physical buttons are really nice, and I like that the button that controls the volume and song skipping is textured so it's easy to find! The buttons are much easier to use and find than the swipe/touch controls on the XM6’s. I also like the carrying pouch, I think it looks cool and the inside is soft which I also like! I do wish maybe there was a velcro pocket inside or something to put the headphone and charging cables. With all the good things out of the way, I will mention some issues/annoyances. Firstly, these were stuttering like crazy the first day I took them to work, my songs would just start and stop constantly and it was super annoying. I thought they were broken, but upon finding a Reddit post, it seems to be an issue with the wear detect. I went to the app and turned it off there, and had no issues with it afterwards. Another problem, though, was that there is some cackling (?) noise happening periodically. Upon Googling it, it seems to be an issue with the Bluetooth or something, so I will try to fix it soon. I also notice I can hear a slight creaking noise or rattle of some sort, it doesn't really bother me but just something I wanted to mention! I'm assuming it's from the headphones themselves and not a connection/software issue. Another thing I am not a huge fan of, I don't like that the power on/off voice is a VOICE and not just a sound. I'm assuming that's normal for Skullcandy headphones, I just don't really like it 🤷♂️ the XM6's make a simple sound for on and off that I prefer much more. That's not a big issue at all, just a preference thing! Overall, if you are looking for a good pair of ANC headphones that have a lot of premium features for a cheaper price than Bose QuietComfort's or the XM6's, I would definitely recommend these! Edit: Okay so I got to really test the ANC today at work and I have to say I am very impressed. A tape machine we use for boxes started breaking today and it was LOUD. I’m so serious when I say it sounded like a plane was landing every time a box went through it, so I had to cover both my ears. These things were INSANE. It seriously cancelled out the noise, yes; you could still hear it, but it sounded very muffled and not loud at all. Turning the music up paired with the ANC took care of it. I am very impressed and happy with these! Also, I have hit my head a few times at work with these on, and haven’t noticed any scratches or issues! So the outside durability is good so far! Since making this post, I’ve used these headphones for work almost every day, and used the XM6’s only a couple times and I definitely prefer these. The fact that they’re louder in general helps a lot and they seem to stay on my head better. They also do keep their battery life quite well and charge quickly. I had 36% battery one day and at the end had 28% (but I did turn them off when I wasn’t using them and did take breaks quite frequently so they weren’t on for a whole 9 hours! Maybe more like 4-5 or a little less!) I still highly recommend these! ... show more

  • Skullcandy and BOSE have teamed up to create a Masterpiece.
Color: True Black
As a Skullcandy Fanboy and owner of Crusher ANC, Crusher Wireless, and Method 360 ANC earbuds you can be rest assured my review of the Crusher 1080 ANC Headphones will be pretty darn accurate. The attached photo shows them all in a line, and also shows the many features the Skullcandy app offers for these particular Headphones. As you can see, my Crusher ANC's have been used and abused for years and are finally in need of a replacement. All that wear was due to me falling asleep wearing them often, and wearing them while biking, mowing the lawn and doing chores while sweating profusely most of the time. These headphones are comfortable to wear, lightweight, and can be adjusted to fit your head perfectly. The build quality is heads and tails above the rest of the line up. Big point here, we finally have legit noise cancellation. These feel every bit like the premium headphones you would expect at this price point. Now for why you are here. Is the bass still here?? Does it crush my skull?? Yes it is and yes it does. The biggest difference between these and my now second favorite Headphones the First Crusher ANC headphones is the amount of customization you have. Now with BOSE in the mix, the bass may not hit QUITE as hard (but trust me it's still there if you turn up that dial) when listening to regular music that isn't bass heavy as there is this new feature that I like to call "insane clarity" allows you to hear notes you didn't know were even there. Now for bassheads like me who like old school hard hitting bass like Bass 305, Techmaster PEB etc, the bass hits just as hard, but without having to max out the bass. With just a slight turn of the dial (which I prefer over the slider of previous versions) the bass still shakes my head as awesome as ever. Even better, if you want more bass without even having to turn the dial, you have control over the E.Q. and can make changes right there that truly make a difference without having to turn the dial way up. BOSE also introduced something called TrueSpatial which may be a BIT gimmicky however, it's kind of cool to set it to "Motion" and as you move your head left, right, up and down, the music just seems to follow you. Something you would use a lot? Probably not, but still a fun little option to have. Personal Sound. This is not a gimmick, and works as well as ever. You truly hear the difference when you turn it on as opposed to having it off. Notes I may have missed, are suddenly there as they seem to be amplified just where they need to be as I have tinnitus as some of the highs I have always missed in the past are now audible and actually had me in tears in front of the Wife earlier today. Finally, I can hear music the way it was meant to be heard. Conclusion, for those of you who know what it's like to put on Crushers by any name, these headphones will not blow you out of the water as you know what Skullcandy can do, but these are indeed a worthy upgrade from previous versions of the Crusher line up due to their customizability, and superior Noise Cancellation. For those who have NEVER experienced Skullcandy Crusher Sensory Bass, these will blow your mind! Don't think about it, just buy these and prepare to hear music the way it was intended. • Immediate Regret
Color: True Black
I bought these after owning the Crusher ANC 2s, and I felt sick almost immediately after trying them out. It was an instant regret. As someone who owns and tests plenty of wireless ANC headphones—including the Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2, Sony WH-1000X, Sonos Ace, AirPods Max 2, and Bose QC—I can safely say that while the Crusher lineup occupies a unique "head-rattling low-end" niche that other brands don't even attempt, this new 1080 model has absolutely no place in that conversation of ANC and sound quality. It is an overall fail, and I am definitely returning them. Build Quality, Weight, and Fit The build quality prioritizes premium materials in areas that simply do not matter. They added aluminum on the headband, a bigger Skullcandy logo, more exposed screws, and detailed textures on the knobs. However, all of this aesthetic flair comes at a major cost: extreme weight. You will notice the heaviness immediately, giving off a similar bulky weight feel to the AirPods Max 2. Because of that added weight, the fit is problematic. While I didn't experience any clamping discomfort, if I lean or bend over, the headphones literally slip right off my head. Worse yet, after just one day and maybe an hour of total use, I noticed visible stress on the headband and ear cup connections. Comparing the 1080 directly to my ANC 2, these bands and cups look like they are going to wear out really quickly. App Frustrations & Bose Partnership Disappointment The Crusher app experience on the 1080 is very glitchy. It took me multiple attempts just to sync it with my iPhone 15 Pro Max—something I never had to deal with on the ANC 2. The GUI on the ANC 2 is vastly superior, especially when setting up personal sound profiles, adjusting the equalizer, and controlling the Crusher gain. On the 1080, the EQ is completely useless because the gain adjustments are almost void, and the built-in presets sound even worse. Furthermore, the physical Crusher knob and the app gain constantly conflict with each other. If you turn the physical knob to MAX, the app can read at minimum (and vice versa), which leaves no actual headroom or precision for tuning. I honestly don't know why Bose put their name on this collaboration, because the ANC performance is below the lowest standard—it doesn't even come close to matching old-school Bose QC35 standards. Sound, Haptic Bass, and Call Quality The sound tuning on the 1080 completely lacks performance compared to the ANC 2: The Bass & Haptics: The bass is nowhere near the ANC 2. I'm not even a total bass-head, but the difference is massive. To get any noticeable haptic response out of the 1080, you have to max out the slider and push the total volume past 70%. On the ANC 2, you get twice the physical impact at half that volume. Sound Modes: The "Still" and "Motion" spatial/sound settings are completely gimmick pony tricks. The better option is leaving them both off, as turning them on just degrades the audio quality further. Microphone Performance: On calls, you will sound heavily artificial and "AI-like" to the person on the other end. The only positive is that background noise cancellation works well, and callers come through clearly on your end, but your own voice sound is heavily processed. Stay-Aware Mode: Completely average and nothing special to write about. The Unboxing & Packaging As a minor annoyance, the included instruction card uses font so tiny and fine that it made me wonder why they even bothered putting it in the box. The Bottom Line There are simply too many cons weighed against the pros to recommend these at the asking price. The battery life is identical to the ANC 2, but literally everything else—from the heavier weight, slipping fit, and glitchy app GUI to the severely neutered haptic bass—is a massive step backward. Save your money and just buy the Crusher ANC 2 instead! ... show more

  • Extremely awesome, but a few quirks that need to be addressed
Color: True Black
This is my very first Skullcandy headset and the experience is awesome but I noticed a few quirks that still need to be worked out: The Good - - The ability for custom EQ is always a plus considering folks with different listening preferences. - Bose Collaboration for the TrueSpatial is a fun experience mixed with the haptic bass custom level with Skullcandy - Bose QuiteControl ANC and StayAware works as Bose level intended - Manual/physical buttons availability is convenient vs touch sensitivity - Multiparing as I use for both personal (music) and work phone (conversing) The Bad - Wear detect needs more tuning as I've noticed that while it does the job, it too sensitive that it affects the Stay Aware process; in other words, when both wear detect and stay aware on (even when in the app and it shows enabled) if there's slight light movement from earphone adjustment (for example minor sweat/itch that would make you move the headphones just a little, it may indirectly disable Stay Aware and then you'll have to manually turn back on - Quality of Ear muff/cushions is quite sensitive; as I noticed that if sweat builds up and not wiped away within adequate time, it will definitely degrade quite quickly Despite the bad, it can be easily worked-around by not using wear detect and also get spare ear cushions from Wicked Cushions (got both the regular and cool gel versions for this headset, put the original in the box for safe keeping). The price is about right as it's less than $300, but November/Black Friday is not too far off and I would wait to see if the price goes further down by then. ... show more

  • Impressed, coming from previously having Bose and Sony
Color: Cement
I go through a lot of headphones - my last two headsets were Sony WH-1000XM5 and Bose NC700 and these definitely stack up on the ANC side. My Bose finally died and I actually bought these just to try out the subwoofer feature, but they are my favorite headphones in a while, despite being more affordable than the Bose and Sony sets. The sound quality is great, the crusher feature is totally unnecessary but fun, and they keep out as much or more noise than those more expensive headphones. The controls are a little unusual, but if you take time to figure them out, it's nice to have so many options as physical buttons. No issues with Bluetooth connectivity and they actually switch between multiple sources quite quickly (my Bose actually used to cut out sometimes with multiple devices connected). The phone app for them isn't required, but it's pretty nice. It's kind of shocking how bad other brands' headphone apps are, but the Skullcandy app actually seems like they cared about making it look good and be useful for things like setting the button functions. One more thing to mention, which is actually a killer feature if you're on headphones all day like me - these do pass-through charging, so you don't have to take them off to keep using them. They last a reasonably long time without charging, but somehow all headphones seem to need a charge just as you're about to get on a call, so having the ability to plug in for power when that happens is great and a shocking omission from most headphones. ... show more

  • I would have left 5 stars had the box not been damaged in transit.
Color: True Black
When I purchase an item, I expect 'not' to pay retail if the box is damaged on arrival. However, I was charged retail like the box was undamaged. I was going to give this away as a gift but can't do that with a damaged box! Seller did not mention this simple fact, that the box was in damaged condition. Not cool, I wish I had known this. And when you think about it, they had to know the damage was visible because it shipped inside a box or bag which had no damage. Take a look, would you pay $279.99+Tax (full retail) for this? Nah! I want a perfect box and a perfect product in exchange for perfect money! The Skullcandy Crusher 1080 ANC (thankfully) was not damaged (however it occurred) considering the condition of the box, how it looked damaged on arrival. Just Amazing. Well, now we know, Skullcandy has quality box protection in overall transit. Doesn't guarantee it will arrive perfect, tho. Another caveat, the Skullcandy app 'AWARE' feature doesn't seem to perform too well in hearing on pass-thru outside the headphones. They may need an update for that considering all ANC headphones block noise and allow noise for awareness. Everything else performed flawlessly, the headphones sound incredible! Highly recommend. ... show more

Color: Candy
First off i got these on a warehouse deal so idk if they are just defective or if this is just how they are. They get really bad interference anc start cutting out anytime im within 15ft of my WIFI router, my Beats and my ANC2 have no such issues. Now for the actual review. Bose was the right move the sound quality is fantastic, now if you liked the head rattling base of the ANC 2 be prepared 100% on these is like 50% on them but that was a plus for me especially since the bass is so much more refined and musical. And the bose tuning is just *chef kiss* the clarity and clean mids and highs its 100% worthy of the bose name on the packaging! I’ll likely buy another pair when i have a bit more to spend on a brand new set and hopefully my experience goes better as im extremely dissatisfied about having to send these back ... show more

  • Amazingly Fun - Bose Tech Removes Treble Harshness
Color: Primer
Wow, these headphones are a lot of fun! I read some of the negative reviews mostly from so-called “audiophilists” complaining about this or that. Since the 70’s I’ve been very interested in preserving the recording and getting equipment that made music sound insane. But sometimes, I just want headphones that are good but are a lot of fun to listen to music and are versatile (music and movies). I’ve never been a fan of Skull Candy earbuds, headphones, etc… They were often way too bright for me. My eardrums fatigued quickly and the sound became unbearably harsh. So, I was hesitant to buy these. So here is my review of these headphones. Setup and connectivity: It was a breeze setting these up on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. As I was going through setup, everything just worked seemlessly. Wired Connectivity: A big reason I purchased these Skull Candies is for travel. When I connect an AirFly Pro Bluetooth Transmitter into the 3.5mm jack to listen to movies with my AirPods Pro Max it’s the only option I have. Sometimes (not all the time), I get a lot of interference coming through the headphones, so much so that at times that I can’t even watch the movie and have to just listen through my iPhone. With the Skull Candies I have options. I can connect via Bluetooth with the AirFly or wired with a 3.5mm jack. I also find that going with Bluetooth I don’t get as much interference with the Skull Candies as I do with the AirPods. ANC: Comparing these headphones to my Apple AirPod Pro Max, the passive ANC was better with the Skull Candies. The ear cups sealed the ear better than that Apple Mesh Ear Cups. The mesh ear cups on the Apple allowed outside noise to come through a little more. However, the ANC technology on the AirPod Pro Max was better. In awareness mode the AirPod Pro Max also was better giving it a more natural hearing experience. Hearing someone talk to you with the headphones on was noticeably better and clear compared to the Skull Candies. Comfort: Both the Skull Candies and Apple AirPod Pro Max’s were both comfortable to wear after several hours having them on. I must say that the Skull Candies might have been a tad more comfortable after long hours wearing them. Sound: Oh my gosh, with the Bose addition and the bass control the music just came alive and the treble harshness was not apparent compared to other Skull Candy ear buds and headphones. I listen to a mix of music on Apple Music. The genres I listen to are rock, country, disco and Christian. So, I created a station that mixes these genres. Given that, I had to set up my iPhone and the Skull Candies equalizer to give me the best sound for all of them without having to switch equalizer settings for each genre that played. That’s a pain in the rump. Maybe when I was a young man, tinkering with frequency levels was a fun thing to do but now I just want to play my mix of genres and have equalizer settings I can set it and forget it. I will provide those settings below. Application Choice: In my opinion, Apple Music provides the best experience with these Skull Candy headphones and since they use Bose technology, the treble harshness is gone. They sound full, deep, and powerful. Music: When I tuned my iPhone and headphones to work together, AC DC’s Shoot to Thrill came on and wow, that song was just amazing in sound and depth. It made me want to replay it over and over. It was as if I heard the song for the first time. I rocked out on that song with air guitar in hand! Every song that played was just awesome from Journey’s Stone in Love to Steely Dans Aja, it was an experience. iPhone Settings: Dolby Atmos - Automatic (I have it set to this because I also have AirPods Pro Max headphones and set to automatic adjusts to either the AirPods or the Skull Candies because they use different technologies. Audio Quality: Lossless - Turned On Cellular Streaming - High Quality AAC 256kbps 5G & WiFi Streaming- Lossless ALAC up to 24-bit/48kHz Downloads- ALAC up to 24-bit/48kHz EQ - Off Sound check - Off Crossfade (optional) - 7 seconds Skull Candy Equalizer Settings: Set to Custom Low Bass (Bass / ~60Hz): +3 Mid-Bass / Low-Mids (~250Hz): +1 or +2 Mids (~1kHz): +2 High-Mids (~4kHz): +1 Treble (Highs / ~15kHz): +1 or 0 (Flat) So far, I’m very happy with these headphones. Even country sounds damn good! 😊 And disco? If you aren’t moving to some KC and the Sunshine Band, there is seriously something wrong with you! 😝 ... show more
