This saw is awesome and pops out of the box ready to make trim installs look professional. The LED light shines directly down the blade, so when you turn it on it puts a crisp shadow right where the blade is going to cut making precision easy! Well made all the way around!

    • A VERY POWERFUL SAW
this is a great tool, and seems to be very well made - but one to be extra careful with. It is a VERY powerful saw, and a little bit complex. It is a tool you'll want to keep away from any youngsters who might be inclined to try it out. Cuts through big pieces of wood like butter, leaving a really clean cut. However, potentially dangerous because it is very powerful and moves on multiple angles and planes. It is powerful enough so that the saw can move itself - even when it's securely mounted to the factory-designed base. A tremendous and well-made tool, but one to be extra careful with. One other thing for the manufacturer to consider - use higher quality steel: the two tubular steel pieces on which the saw apparatus slides have started to rust on my saw, and I've only had it for around six weeks.     • It does the job well in our HS Industrial Arts Classes (SKILSAW SPT88-01)
Excellent saw which has added a lot of value (on a budget) to our HS Industrial Arts/Wood Working shop. This has made cutting board and angles safer for our students. Let alone it has made the angles CLEANER and STRAIGHTER. THANK YOU! It is comforting to know my students are getting hands on experience using quality equipment. Let's be real...schools can't always afford a lot, so we try to get the most bang for our buck. Therefore, it is nice to find a quality product like the SKILSAW SPT88-01 this out there for us to purchase. I was skeptical of buying this as I have always used Dewalt miter saws but this is a very powerful saw. Right from the box it was ready to use and already squared up. I read alot of reviews and watch YouTube videos on it. Yes it does seem like the blade chatters but it doesn't actually chatter. You do not see any kind of chatter in your cut. Also someone complained about the adjustable fence not being sturdy and that is also false. ... show more

I have been using compound miter saws for more than 20-years and recently needed to replace my 12" Milwaukie, which has been a real workhorse. I read dozens of reviews and decided to go with the Skil Saw worm drive. I have a half dozen worm drive skil saws that we use on the job every day and the magnesium model helps by saving weight and has been very durable. Well, my new worm drive Skil Saw 12" compound miter saw showed up at the shop, and then the time consuming task of recalibrating the saw started. I spent 4-hours squaring up the saw, and finally getting the preset degree stops to engage. It seemed to take forever. We'll start using it on the job today and then the real test starts. Of note, my old Milwaukie work horse was a lot of money...more than twice the cost of the Skil or any of the DeWalt compound miter saws. The conclusion is that this saw might not be as durable...only time will tell. ... show more

I honestly don't know what the bad reviews are about. They kept me hesitant on buying this saw for over a year. I finally pulled the trigger and I'm glad I did no pun intended. This saw cut true and accurately right out of the box. I checked it out all around with a square and it is right on the money. I've worked in the trades for many years and I can honestly say this is one of the best chop saws I've ever owned and used. ... show more
