  • Outstanding value
Style: Router Kit
My other router is very old and although it works like new, it is not compatible with nearly anything these days in the way of accessories. I really wanted a router table for so many reasons. I almost bought a combo that was over twice the price and I am really glad I found this first. The assembly was very easy even for a router table novice like me. The manuals are clearly written and were easy to follow. I had watched a review video where the person was really impressed in the ability/quality versus price. I paid attention to the items he pointed out to see if I saw the same on my router/table combo. I feel he was very honest in his statements. He did state the fence was not very strong and he didn't recommend for jointing. Perhaps they updated the fence since his was released, but the one that came with mine seems very sturdy. Two items I am very glad this combo boasts is above table height adjustment and it comes with a starting pin. I really didn't see much mention of the pin when reading the description. I only was interested to see if it was included after watching some videos to help me get the most out of my new tool. It appears having a starting pin in a router table is a wanted feature. Skil should make more mention of it if even just a sentence. I really like the router as well. The video mentioned it has a slow startup which is another item that is desired in the router community. The manual quickly walked me through getting it all set up. Attaching it to the mounting plate was really easy as was attaching the mounting plate to the table. I will be honest, the router is most likely in its permanent home. As my older router is still very versatile and came with a good assortment of accessories to include a plunger. I just can't use any of the more modern attachments so this router may get the occasional reprieve. The fence does have a vacuum hookup point. Thanks to keeping the hose from my first shop vac that was much smaller than my current one, I can join the hose from old and new and it adapts to the port perfectly. I made a few test cuts tonight and most all of the chips were whisked away to leave a nearly spotless work top. I will admit that some of the pieces are not high grade. The video I watched did point this out. My take on it is that this set is a value set (for lack of a better term) and you cannot expect solid gold fittings milled to within a millionth of an inch for the price point this unit is. Believe me, I am not complaining. This set is for hobby only so I am not needing professional grade. Honestly, I have seen similar comments about included items on much pricier router/table combos. I am grateful Skil included so much for such a great price. This will suit my needs and then some. One item that Skil could fix somewhat easily is the fact that when the router is in the table and you need to remove it, you have to lift up the table to get enough clearance to remove the router for bit changes. As I am going to build a custom stand for this unit, I will recess the center to make it easier to remove and replace the router motor. I really like the storage on the sides. They are just cubbies, but I will take that over the space being wasted and not utilized at all. The test passes I made tonight turned out great. Thanks to actually researching I learned the bit I have in the router needed a slower speed due to its width. Again the included manuals really helped a novice out. The router worked great and did not sound like it was strained in the slightest. As the router has lights on it for hand use, they do also light up here. I am not sure how useful that will be, but at minimum it does light up the workspace in the most important area, the finger eliminator. In my opinion, I feel this is an excellent value with very good quality. I would say expect to get what you pay for however I think you get you get far more than what the price tag implies you will get in quality and included items. ... show more

  • Great value, solid product, excellent value
Style: Router Kit
I waited awhile to complete a few projects before writing the review. I'm now 3 projects in and feel I've gotten to know the machine pretty well. Important note, I only use the router attached to the table. I have a handheld and plunge for hand use. Table: Assembly: easy, some may find the table a bit fiddly to assemble but it's a 15 minute job and pretty straight forward. The table and fence are laminate covered mdf, very solid. I comes with multiple hold downs to keep your work from slipping or jumping away from the router, the work well. Though I would actually like 2 more of them. The legs are plastic and actually pretty sturdy. I had read reviews talking about the table not being sturdy. I dud not experience this at all. Of course. I clamped the table down to my workbench to prevent it from moving. The legs have storage in each, this is the one thing I have a rub against. It's just not well designed. But it wasn't a selling point for me so no big deal. Router, I've used it thusfar on mdf, pine, and cherry and it powered though it all with no issues. The parts I worked were up to 4'6" and I felt comfortable at all times. The router absolutely has the power. Since I use it exclusively in the table I was happy to see a quick release allowing me to remove the router from the table with ease. My last table required me to remove the mounting screws. The router also has a quick adjust feature allowing you to drop or raise the body quickly by pushing a button, then dial in hour height with the geared adjuster. This makes swapping out bits much easier. The router also has a slow start when you power it up. It prevents that jerk in your hands from tge torque of the router when you start it up. Not as important for a table mounted router but a nice feature nonetheless. Lastly, I love that I can hook my shop vac plug into the table power so that it starts up and shuts off as I power the router up and down. Ultimately this is a great value, I paid the same for the router and table as I would have for just the table of similar quality. I'm very happy with the purchase and would absolutely buy it again. ... show more

  • Excellent Value, Very Good Tool
Style: Router Kit
I'm impressed by the overall quality of this combo given the price. The storage on each side is handy and includes a spot to hang the collet wrench as well as shelves with 1/2" and 1/4" holes for bits. They do receive a good bit of sawdust. The plastic fence isn't quite straight but the built in vacuum port works well despite being subject to some clogging. I also appreciate being able to switch on/off both my vacuum and router at the same time given the two switched outlets. I find the table to be very steady while clamped to a small workbench. I really like the router. It has good power. There are LED lights so you can see your work in real time and plastic shields to protect eyes if using it upright or to guarantee complete dust collection if table mounted. The included base accepts Porter-Cable bushings. I wish there were a snap lock for changing bits instead of the spring-loaded button. The button forces you to use a hand just to engage the lock. Still, bits aren't that hard to change. The router also allows for precise micro height adjustments while mounted to the table. ... show more

  • Great choice for price
Style: Router Kit
First off, I would recommend this combo to any diy'r out there. However, a couple of negatives (none of which would stop any operation from being performed) must be noted. 1st, the router can use both 1/4 and 1/2 inch shank bits, but, when using 1/4 inch shank you insert a 1/4 inch collet into the 1/2 inch collet, instead of removing the 1/2 and installing a one piece 1/4 collet. This works, just use extra care, check closely for wobble, and, of course, keep the parts clean. 2nd, You should get some pan head screws for mounting the SKIL router to the mounting plate, instead of reusing the original flat head screws. The plate is not machined for the flat heads. Save the originals for use when you use the original base plate. And 3rd, as others have said, with the SKIL router that comes with the combo mounted according to the instructions, there is no way to connect a vacuum hose because the port is blocked by the switch box. I simply made the choice to not worry about the above table adjustment and rotated the router to point the dust collection port so it now points away from the switch box. You will have to use the height adjustment knob on the router, but your hands are already there because you have to unlock the motor before any adjustment can be made anyway. Everything is still functional this way except for the above table adjustment, no biggy. Plus you won't need an additional wrench to keep track of. Remember, it just does the same thing as the already there knob on the side of the router. I'm still giving 5 stars, because I really think this combo will do everything a much more expensive system will do. One final note. To SKIL. If the switch box were located on the right instead of the left, the dust port problem would be mute. ... show more

This table is sturdy and the router is powerful. I was going to purchase the table by itself then found this combination table and router for twenty dollars more. Easy choice... good product.

  • Solid value with a few quirks, great for hobbyists and weekend warriors
Style: Router Kit
After spending a few weeks with this router table combo, I feel confident saying it’s one of the best bang for your buck setups out there, especially for home projects or getting started in woodworking. What I liked: The router performance is excellent. Plenty of power, soft start is a nice touch, and micro height adjustments from above the table make dialing in your cuts a lot easier than I expected at this price point. Setup was straightforward. Most parts are partially assembled, and I was up and running in under an hour. Instructions could be better, but if you’ve put together IKEA furniture before, you’ll be fine. Surprising stability. Despite the legs being plastic, once clamped down, the table holds steady even under load. The featherboards, miter gauge, and bit storage are thoughtful bonuses. Dust control isn’t perfect, but it’s workable if you hook up a good shop vac. Where it could improve: The fence is a weak spot. It works, but it flexes too much for serious jointing or very fine precision work. I built a simple wood replacement fence and that fixed most of my issues. Bit changes are awkward. You have to either raise the router out of the table or tilt it around, which slows you down during projects. Storage compartments are just okay. Useful in theory, but they collect dust and don’t hold things super securely. Bottom line: It’s not a professional setup, but that’s not what it claims to be. For hobbyists, DIYers, or anyone wanting a reliable router and table combo without spending 300 dollars or more, this delivers a lot of value. If you’re willing to work around a few minor annoyances, you’ll get clean cuts, solid power, and a nice stepping stone into more advanced work. Would buy again. ... show more
