  • Outstanding value
Style: Router Kit
My other router is very old and although it works like new, it is not compatible with nearly anything these days in the way of accessories. I really wanted a router table for so many reasons. I almost bought a combo that was over twice the price and I am really glad I found this first. The assembly was very easy even for a router table novice like me. The manuals are clearly written and were easy to follow. I had watched a review video where the person was really impressed in the ability/quality versus price. I paid attention to the items he pointed out to see if I saw the same on my router/table combo. I feel he was very honest in his statements. He did state the fence was not very strong and he didn't recommend for jointing. Perhaps they updated the fence since his was released, but the one that came with mine seems very sturdy. Two items I am very glad this combo boasts is above table height adjustment and it comes with a starting pin. I really didn't see much mention of the pin when reading the description. I only was interested to see if it was included after watching some videos to help me get the most out of my new tool. It appears having a starting pin in a router table is a wanted feature. Skil should make more mention of it if even just a sentence. I really like the router as well. The video mentioned it has a slow startup which is another item that is desired in the router community. The manual quickly walked me through getting it all set up. Attaching it to the mounting plate was really easy as was attaching the mounting plate to the table. I will be honest, the router is most likely in its permanent home. As my older router is still very versatile and came with a good assortment of accessories to include a plunger. I just can't use any of the more modern attachments so this router may get the occasional reprieve. The fence does have a vacuum hookup point. Thanks to keeping the hose from my first shop vac that was much smaller than my current one, I can join the hose from old and new and it adapts to the port perfectly. I made a few test cuts tonight and most all of the chips were whisked away to leave a nearly spotless work top. I will admit that some of the pieces are not high grade. The video I watched did point this out. My take on it is that this set is a value set (for lack of a better term) and you cannot expect solid gold fittings milled to within a millionth of an inch for the price point this unit is. Believe me, I am not complaining. This set is for hobby only so I am not needing professional grade. Honestly, I have seen similar comments about included items on much pricier router/table combos. I am grateful Skil included so much for such a great price. This will suit my needs and then some. One item that Skil could fix somewhat easily is the fact that when the router is in the table and you need to remove it, you have to lift up the table to get enough clearance to remove the router for bit changes. As I am going to build a custom stand for this unit, I will recess the center to make it easier to remove and replace the router motor. I really like the storage on the sides. They are just cubbies, but I will take that over the space being wasted and not utilized at all. The test passes I made tonight turned out great. Thanks to actually researching I learned the bit I have in the router needed a slower speed due to its width. Again the included manuals really helped a novice out. The router worked great and did not sound like it was strained in the slightest. As the router has lights on it for hand use, they do also light up here. I am not sure how useful that will be, but at minimum it does light up the workspace in the most important area, the finger eliminator. In my opinion, I feel this is an excellent value with very good quality. I would say expect to get what you pay for however I think you get you get far more than what the price tag implies you will get in quality and included items. ... show more

  • Solid value with a few quirks, great for hobbyists and weekend warriors
Style: Router Kit
After spending a few weeks with this router table combo, I feel confident saying it’s one of the best bang for your buck setups out there, especially for home projects or getting started in woodworking. What I liked: The router performance is excellent. Plenty of power, soft start is a nice touch, and micro height adjustments from above the table make dialing in your cuts a lot easier than I expected at this price point. Setup was straightforward. Most parts are partially assembled, and I was up and running in under an hour. Instructions could be better, but if you’ve put together IKEA furniture before, you’ll be fine. Surprising stability. Despite the legs being plastic, once clamped down, the table holds steady even under load. The featherboards, miter gauge, and bit storage are thoughtful bonuses. Dust control isn’t perfect, but it’s workable if you hook up a good shop vac. Where it could improve: The fence is a weak spot. It works, but it flexes too much for serious jointing or very fine precision work. I built a simple wood replacement fence and that fixed most of my issues. Bit changes are awkward. You have to either raise the router out of the table or tilt it around, which slows you down during projects. Storage compartments are just okay. Useful in theory, but they collect dust and don’t hold things super securely. Bottom line: It’s not a professional setup, but that’s not what it claims to be. For hobbyists, DIYers, or anyone wanting a reliable router and table combo without spending 300 dollars or more, this delivers a lot of value. If you’re willing to work around a few minor annoyances, you’ll get clean cuts, solid power, and a nice stepping stone into more advanced work. Would buy again. ... show more

  • Great Buy

Waited a little bit before doing the review, just couldn't believe I got the whole set up relatively inexpensively. I figured it wouldn't last or be difficult, but I needed one quick. Totally shocked when it performed everything I asked for and its truly a good machine. Will recommend it.

  • Great beginner setup to test the waters
Style: Router Kit
First time buyer / user of a router table. So, maybe its really bad and I just haven't recognized it yet. But, it has done most everything that I have asked of it. Made a fiber barrier to fit over shaft and inserts into hole in table. Then turned the bits loose on some aluminum stock. Had to go very slow and use coolant, but got job done. Of course those bits were trashed. For wood, it is pretty good. Lot less slop than I expected, even after cutting aluminum. Don't like the vacuum port setup. Just didn't seem to catch much wood or aluminum debris. 3hp dust collector used, air flow was stellar but bad arrangement I guess. Overcame by adding additional hoses on gooseneck extensions just above the work. Table itself won't last long, appears made from mdf. Lots of scratches and such in top. Already planning on making an aluminum table. No complaints about router itself. Have even unmounted and used on spin weld fittings. Got the job done with spin weld, but took longer and motor ran hot. But, also isn't the intended application either. Spin Weld needs >3HP per user install manual, and this ain't it. Great on wood.... and aluminum. ... show more
