  • The saw very impressive and is very well-made
This saw is very well-made. The quality and finish is very good for the money. There are heavier saws out there, but they’re 2x the price of this. This is a very good value for the money.

  • Maybe 5 stars?
I’m never quite sure what to leave in a review like this, or if I should leave one at all. The product (or at the very least the box) came damaged. It was smashed in on one whole side, upon opening, the styrofoam on the inside was broken as well, and I could hear metal parts jangling around. I wouldn’t buy it from a brick and mortar store, so back it went. I’ve kept damaged products in the past where I didn’t see any damage, and it came back to bite me well after the return window. I have several Skil products (a drill press, a router, router table, drills and the like) and I am a big fan, they have never let me down. They are all quality products from the budget price range. I obviously can’t tell where in the process the box took the hit (as a former factory guy, it looks to me like someone got in a hurry on the forklift) so based on previous Skil performance I will assume it’s a 5 star tool and I got a bad beat. I don’t want to leave a bad review for something that might not have been Skil’s doing. ... show more

  • pretty good saw
This is a good band saw. It sometimes has a little trouble with wood over 1 1/2" thick.. The band sometimes jumps off, and has to be put back on.. It cuts pretty smooth.

  • good machine

  • Mediocre Design, Some Cheap Parts
Skil calls this a 2 speed band saw. But it’s really a single speed motor. The speed changes with a drive belt position change, which is done manually by loosening the motor and moving the drive belt to another sprocket, resetting the belt tension, and retightening the motor. Probably not something you want to do on a regular basis, or ever. The level mechanism for the table base is a single bolt with 2 nuts that hold it in place. To level the table you must angle it at 45 degrees to access the bolt and nuts. Then literally guess how much to change the bolt height. It took me about 30 minutes to get it close enough to a 90 degree angle, but still not acceptable. It has plastic rack and pinions for the blade guide and the table angle. So it’s anyone’s guess how long those will last before the teeth start breaking. This saw is severely under powered for anything over 1/2” thick. I wouldn’t even attempt a 2x4. I would say this was just lemon if it weren’t for all the other design issues. It’s just not worth fiddling with. If I had known all this before purchasing, I never would have ordered it. Spend a little more on something with better quality. This is not the same Skil quality of yesteryear. Don’t let all the positive reviews fool you. This was not designed to last, or even frequent use. I’ll be returning it. ... show more
