No one my age has the nerve to learn to skateboard. I had a huge Variflex skate board that I got for Christmas when I was about ten. I certainly didn't have the balanced, proportional leg strength or dexterity to learn, and it was not the right kind of board to learn on. Now, I'm yoga buff, recently dropped 30lbs, and have greater agility than I had as a D-1 college athlete. So... I figured why not (with a helmet and padded shorts)? This board boasts an extra layer more than any others at 8 ply, and a weight capacity up to 300, which now serves only to boost my confidence, since I'm only 223# down from 255 when I first started looking. I've only tipped around in the hallway so far, but I feel like I'll be ready to hit the sidewalk/pavement in the spring, and looking forward to it. I have very modest ambitions. This came with tons of stickers, in addition to the cool design. Also came with edge protection though I've noticed no one on a board has that. Also, it's just very well put together. The trucks feel a little soft, but I haven't a clue if they should be firmer or not. I was a chubby kid on a huge board last time I owned one.

Bought this for my son, who’s 6. It’s marketed as a kids board. The board itself is great so far. The stickers that came with it had 4 weed stickers. So I had to explain why I was taking them away. Not cool!

The art on the bottom is done pretty well, I almost want to hang it up instead of skating it. Overall it's a clean looking board and a good place to start. It could definitely benefit from some upgraded parts, but you won't need to replace anything initially if you're just starting out. The grip tape isn't my favorite, it's grippy but not super grippy. This is more of a preference thing, but I like my grip to be real rough and grippy. The trucks are okay, nothing to write home about but they do their job. If you don't mind the look you could probably afford to keep these trucks through the life of the board. The bushings, however, just feel mushy and unpleasant. I don't know what it is about them (I have ridden too-soft bushings before that didn't feel this way) but I just hate how they feel. I replaced them same day and I would recommend you look up how to change out bushings, it's cheap to do and really has a big impact on how the board rides. I prefer stiffer bushings than I need but look up the different types in relation to your body weight. Lighter people like kids need softer bushings (so these bushings may be okay for small kids) and heavier teens and adults need harder bushings. As with everything skating it all comes down to preference, there is no right or wrong way to set up your board. Just play around with it, building out a board is half the fun. The wheels are okay for beginners, they are 95A wheels. The number refers to hardness, with 75A being extremely soft wheels and 100A+ being very hard wheels. Generally the harder wheels provide less grip, they're faster, you can slide around on them. The softer wheels provide better grip, can deal with rough terrain like streets better, give you a smoother ride, and overall are more suited for beginners. 95A is a good middle ground. It fits both into urban streets or skate parks without too much compromise in either direction. Good for beginners and many intermediate/advanced skaters will still use 95A. The wheel bearings are a lot better than the bearings on the first board I got as a kid. That said, there are much better options out there. I would recommend replacing the bearings if you are able so you aren't learning on gummy bearings, they are a bit more than bushings but not too much. You will have to replace the original bearings eventually, as they just aren't that great quality and will wear down quickly. Again, they'll definitely work, but once you throw a premium set of bearings in there you will notice the difference immediately. Personally when I switched from my gummy bearing first board to one with proper bearings, I almost had to relearn everything because it was such a difference. The hardware as far as the nuts and bolts are okay, nothing to write home about but they work. The skate tool is... Buy a new skate tool. Overall I think this is a great beginner board at a very nice price, that could become a great intermediate board with new bushings/bearings.

Perfect beginners skateboard with beautiful artwork. I love the watercolor dragon design. The skateboard is a great volume, considering it’s made of real Canadian maple wood compared to other beginners boards made of plastic in the similar price range. The skateboard is big enough for an adult, and not too bulky for portability. I am happy with the skateboard as is, and probably will switch out some hardware for better experience later.
