  • great bench for what im using it for
Recently sold my home and moved into a rental. knowing i would be moving in a year or so i needed something i could break down to eventually move. Plus I wanted to spend my time building projects and not my bench. This bench fit those needs perfectly and being left handed, i was extremely happy with not having to retrofit the bench for the vices. the instructions were not the best but easy to figure out. It took about 40 minutes to assemble. I am primarily using this with hand tools, to increase the weight of the bench i built a tool cabinet and added 2 25lb sandbags to each side. solid as a rock now. ... show more

  • Sjorgerg Nordic Plus 1450 Workbench
Bottom line: if I hadn't spend many hours assembling this thing, I'd be trying to return it and find something else. The assembly directions were the worst I have even seen. Drawings were poor, parts not identified except by pictures/sketches which could not be discernable between similar parts. Several times I had to take apart and re-assemble since I couldn't tell one part from another. There were NO part identifications like: A or 1 or anything. The sketches were so bad, sometimes the only way one could tell the right part was to try it. To add to the frustration, most of the pre-drilled holes were mostly mis-located. I had to drill out the old holes, wedge and glue a dowel into it, and redrill them. All the toys I assembled at Christmas for the grandchildren were better instructed, better identified, and the holes, in general fit. ... I purchased this very expensive bench for it's reputation, the poor reviews that the Harbor Freight unig had which recommended spending the "extra" money for a high end Sjorberg or American Made bench. I am a near expert carpenter ... I custom build furniture for benefit of Habitat for Humanity, have built houses and I have never seen a worse set of instructions, poor quality for assembly accuracy, and general lack of clarity for assembly. Very dissappointing for around $500. I think I'd have been better off purchasing the cheap on($under $150) It couldn't have been worse. I would recommend NOT PURCHASING the Sjorberg products. This is the first time I have rated an item this low since starting buying from Amazon. Basically ... JUNK!!! for $500 Endnote: DON'T BUY IT UNLESS YOU LIKE FRUSTRATION, re-doing someones work, and remanufacturing many aspects of the unit. JUNK!! ... show more

  • good solid lightweight bench
I've had this workbench for a few months and it has worked well. I had to screw it to the wall to get it solid enough for planing and such but I expected as much when I bought it. I like being able to put the vises in different places. Good value.

  • This is my second one
This bench is very heavy duty and well built. It was easy to assemble and is just the right size for the side of the garage or workshop. Really good!

  • nothing special...
disappointed in the quality given the big nordic build up. the top had a split in it in addition to a chunk gouged out during shipping. not worth the hassle to send back but certainly did not meet my expectations.

  • Lightweight
I've had my Sjoberg for over a decade now, and using it I've learned a lot about what a workbench should be able to do: 1. It shouldn't be too wide. At just under 20", this bench is a good size for most work. 2. It should be heavy and stiff, to resist the pushing and pulling from sawing and planing. Here, the little Sjoberg falls short. At only 66 pounds, with a top that's only an 1-1/8" thick, the Sjoberg is okay for power tool use but I've found it difficult to use hand tools on. 3. It should have a row of dog holes in the bench and the vise jaws for holding large work. Check. 4. It should allow you to use additional clamps to hold work to the surface. Because of the thin top and wide aprons, this is difficult to accomplish. 5. It should have a wide, unobstructed vise jaw(s) that can hold pieces vertically for cutting tenons and dovetails. Not so good. While it served me well in my early days of woodworking, which mainly involved cutting plywood and trim on the table saw and screwing it together on this bench, the Sjoberg Nordic Plus 1450 doesn't really work very well for what I'm doing now. To do any sort of planing I have to place the bench against the wall; otherwise it scoots across the floor when I try to joint a board. My short term plan is to add some additional bracing to stiffen the legs, but my long term plan is to build a heavy bench, using ideas from Chris Schwarz' The Workbench Design Book: The Art & Philosophy of Building Better Benches . If you're just starting out, and mainly working with power tools, this is a decent bench for assembly, sanding, and maybe router work. But if you're into hand tools, and you're not ready to spend $1,500-2,500 on a Vertias or Lie-Nelson, I'd suggest buying Schwarz' book and thinking about making your own. ... show more

  • Great addition to the shop.
Great workbench, but the instructions leave a little to be desired unless you like looking only at pictures then your fine.

  • Missing pieces.
It arrived a week late, And missing pieces. The Box was all mashed up, So when they said just return it for replacementI didn't have a Box to send it back in. I made the wooden pieces that were missing myself the quality wasn't as good as they said it would be. If you doing light crafts it will be OK. Not as sturdy as advertised. ... show more
