  • Very smooth...
Size: PH-20
...in its operation. Takes less than a 1/4turn to tighten it into position. The carbon fiber is very well done and looks great. The cradle clamp and plate are large and make a solid connection leaving you confident that it will stay where you put it. The more I use this the better I feel about my purchase. The one minor ding is the cradle arm alignment zero-position mark, it is off by 1mm when it is true vertical. Still, all and all, a good purchase. ... show more

  • Nearly perfect. Wish it didn't have this deal-breaker flaw.
Size: PH-20
I'd call this Gimbal nearly perfect, if not for a fundamental flaw that makes it almost completely useless — the lock knob for horizontal pan. It seems Sirui decided to make the horizontal pan/lock to be based on a sawtooth geared mechanism. I.e., you cannot just lock the horizontal pan at any point. If you lock it at a point where the knob is tightened against the ramping edge of a tooth, it would nudge by a millimeter or so before locking. In other words, you can only lock this gimbal head at where it chooses to lock. Combine this with a telephoto lens and guess what happens? The entire composition changes! I couldn't lock the gimbal at any of my desired compositions even with a 70-200 f/2.8 lens at 200mm. I can imagine that at greater than 400mm, this flaw would change the entire frame by the time you lock the horizontal pan. It is interesting to note that the vertical knob (tilt) doesn't have this issue and can choose to lock at any desired degree. Wish Sirui just did the reverse at least! Now, the way to get around this flaw would be to not use the horizontal lock knob and let it run free. If you're a bird shooter you'd be completely okay operating in this manner, but if you wanted to shoot something by composing and locking down the composition, this flaw is a deal breaker. I'm a landscape shooter and I bought this to avoid handholding my long telephoto lenses and also to double as a panorama head. The reason this gimbal would have worked for me (except the flaw) as a panorama head is the excellent design — the lens cradle is perfectly centered on the pivoting axis, the J arm is perfect 90 degrees, both horizontal and vertical rotations are graded with scales and the height adjustment is graded with a scale. Thus, centering the lens and marking down nodal points and panorama stitch degrees would all work with this. In fact, it's so well made in every aspect other than this one flaw, I was nearly broken hearted to return it. I reached out to Sirui GmbH, who, to my surprise kept in communication with a 30 minute turn around, advised me that the flaw has been rectified in a later version of the gimbal head and I should reach out to Sirui US instead of Sirui GmbH, who will be able to provide me with instructions on how to get the new version. I followed their instruction and reached out to Sirui US on June 26, 2016, who didn't respond back to me. In fact, till date I haven't got a reply. I'd be more than happy to test and review the newer version of this gimbal which supposedly exist per Sirui GmbH. Unfortunately, despite all my attempts, I haven't been able to get my hands on it. I eventually chose to return the item to Amazon. To summarize: Pros: * Mostly well designed and really well manufactured. Feels rock solid, the carbon fiber feels good in hand and looks very appealing. * Light weight. Lightest of all the gimbal heads I've tested so far. * Both rotation axis are supported with degree scales and lens height adjustment also has a scale. * Smooth rotation on both axes and vertical lock is solid. Cons: * Cannot lock horizontal pan at arbitrary points. You've to choose to compose at designated lock points. ... show more

  • Lightweight, strong, and works like a charm if you want to spend the money.
Size: PH-20
I purchased this after owning the Sirui K-30X ballhead for a while, which is an incredible ballhead at an even more incredible price. I shoot action sports professionally part-time and have been doing more wildlife as of late. I have had the opportunity to use this on top of a monopod with excellent results. For reference, I use a Canon 70D with the EF 100-400 IS II USM and a battery grip (approx 9lbs of gear) Pros: - Beautifully packaged in a wonderful case - Lightweight Carbon Fiber is easy to tote around - Fluid motion, easy to follow action as needed (more on panning in Cons) - Knobs are large and easy to use effectively - It looks awesome! Cons: - Pricey. Gimbal heads can be had for considerably less money, but I do believe this one is worth every penny - Panning is a bit stiff. I haven't yet used it on a tripod, but when panning on a monopod, the monopod base spins on the ground. I imagine mounted on a tripod the panning could be a bit stiff Overall, I am extremely pleased with this gimbal head. If you're looking to spend this kind of money, you won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • OMG - Impressive!!!!
Size: PH-20
It is a beautifully made head. The carbon is flawless, light (2.4 lbs) and strong (can handle 40 lbs!!).. Unlike metal, it will not freeze and be easy to touch in cold weather. The tension knobs are superb, big, easy to turn and you can tell it is applying increased tension with each turn. The bottom one works, unlikely another brand that I purchased where the knob was not functional. The quick release opens and closes with precision and you can not over loosen where it will fall apart. It comes with an additional long plate for your lens, so you can better manage balance. It comes with an additional short release that is just another bonus. It comes in it's own black nylon zippered case!!! You can tell these guys took pride in what they made. You can pay a lot less and it will feel like a brick, and be semi functional. This is a precision piece. I have written nearly 100 reviews and this has to be one of the best made items I have ever purchased - 5-Stars Plus ... show more

  • Fabulous device!
Size: PH-20
What a fabulous device! Perched atop my new Indura AT-413 tripod, I am able to set up the rig with my camera in the yoke and smoothly follow the flight of the eagles, pelicans, and dozens of other birds on my birding trips. The whole thing is so very light, making transporting it a cinch. Attaching the camera (lens, actually) to the Gimbal Head is a simple tuck-in and tighten maneuver, making the switching of lenses fast and easy. I would recommend having a separate attachment device that clamps onto the head so you don't have to remove it and change it for each time you change lenses. ... show more

Size: PH-20
Sliky smooth and very light weight. I put this on a carbon fiber tripod and now feel like I could hike for miles with my setup (300mm f2.8 w/ Nikon D7200) for miles even with a bad back. I really like the large knobs to lock it down and they are set so minimal turning is needed to make your adjustments. Even comes with a very nice carrying case, even if I doubt it will see itself in there again. ... show more

  • Light, smooth and Stable.
Size: PH-20
Just as good as a Wimberly Gimbal head, about 1.5lb lighter, and $100 cheaper. Smooth and stable with a Nikon 810, battery pack, and a 600mm f4. Buttter smooth pan and verticle movements. It's a great replacement for my Wimberly Gimbal head.
