  • Impressive Generator
Size: 8,300 Watts
Very impressive, well built generator. It is heavy and huge--but I wanted a generator of this size. I live in northern Minnesota and occasionally the power does go out in my area. I wasn't home when it was delivered on a wooden palette. The generator is so heavy that a couple of the boards on the palette were actually broken. There wasn't much to set up--basically attaching the wheels and support bracket. However, since the generator is so heavy even those simple tasks would have been extremely difficult for me to do alone. Fortunately, my 22-year old son arrived home a few minutes after I did and he helped. Once the wheels were on I could easily move it around by myself--but it still is heavy. It came with a bottle of oil. I already had the recommended gas (gas with less than 10% ethanol). While it is listed as an "Electric-Start" generator--it doesn't actually come with the battery. It does list on the description page that it doesn't come with a battery. This is my first generator so I can't compare the noise level to any other brand or size. Since I am using this as a "portable" generator, I purchased a 25-foot fan style generator extension cord that I plug in directly to the generator and run the other end of the cord (the far end) into my house. This way I can keep the generator away from the house and any open windows. I don't have the necessary electrical set-up in my house to connect this generator directly to my home's electrical system. Doing that would require me to hire a qualified electrician. Perhaps if the electricity went out more often I may spend money on that. Overall, I am very happy with this. This is a purchase I have been wanting to make for years. It gives me a great sense of peace knowing that if the electricity goes out for any extended time--I have this for backup. ... show more

  • Heavy Duty Generator
Size: 8,300 Watts
First off, this generator is an absolute beast. Being my first generator I was no expecting it to be so large. When it was delivered on the front porch, I could not move it on my own. Since I did't have a dolly, I put it on a skateboard and wheeled it inside. It weighs approximately 180 pounds so be aware, but once you've got it out of the box and installed the wheels and handlebar, it becomes much easier to move. It is very well built, nothing about it seems cheap or low quality. It comes with a bottle of oil ready to go After having it sit for a few weeks because we were trying to figure out what to hook up and how, we put the oil and gas in and cranked it up. FYI, this is not a propane and gas generator, it is gas only. We put the key in and started it right up, and it is loud but that should be expected at 10,000 watts. I plugged in the fridge and a 30 gallon air pump to the generator and let it run for about 2 hours. Per the advice of my partners father, we should let it run for a while and drain the oil to get rid of any residual metal shards during its first use. I will also say, which may be quite obvious to some, make sure its as far away from the house as possible. First off, its noisy. Second, the smell from it was quite strong. Initially we could only have it about 20 feet outside the front door due to a shorter extension cable but we had to move it farther out because the smell was almost nauseating to me. The only thing that I could not quite figure out was the odd sound of the motor, it never seemed to run "smoothly" and sounded like it was sputtering like a car engine would. Even after letting it run for a few hours, it didn't go away. The generator is a bit too much for me personally but I am now living in a more rural area where a situation that requires a generator is more likely to happen. After doing some research and speaking with others who have used generators frequently, this model is great quality and has a lot of power for the price. ... show more

  • Outstanding generator!
Size: 8,300 Watts
Ok, Let me just say this--this thing is a beast. I currently have a Predator 7000/8750 that I thought was relatively well built (for a Harbor Freight unit), but this thing has it beat all to heck. Everything about this unit just screams quality, from the gas cap to the roll cage. It's not your typical Predator/Durostar/Champion generator. It's 3 year warranty should showcase that. Now, on to what you want to know....Does it work? Absolutely. I took it out of the box, installed the wheels, added the included oil and 5 gallons of gas, pulled the rope and it started right up. (I later went out and picked up a battery and can confirm electric start works perfectly). I let it idle for about 10 minutes then hooked it to my house via the 30 amp inlet I have installed.---Oh, before I forget...it's NOT quiet. But at 10,000 watts, it;s not going to be. But, it;'s no louder than any other generator this size---I energized each breaker individually and within seconds, had my whole house running on generator power (minus the central A/C...I have a 2 ton unit and TBH it probably would've handled it, but I didn't want to put quite that much on it until further break-in). I DID, however, hook two window units up that I keep for emergencies (a 6000btu and an 8000btu), along with the rest of the house load, and it barely even phased the genny. This thing is great. It's got the same Honda clone engine in it as the rest, but the whole thing just FEELS more substantial. And the key start , built in handle and hour meter are a very nice touch. This unit was well thought out and made to be worked. Simpson did a GREAT job on this one. ... show more
