I love this piece of furniture. Yes, expensive, but it shows and it's worth it. Great quality, beautiful hardwood. I wanted it to be able to roll away when not in use. It makes a good side table then I bring it out for computer work, meals, sorting bills etc. I thought others might like to know how to DIY. I purchased the wheels on Amazon - (Headbourne 8276E 3 inch Polyurethane Mag, 4 Pack Designer Caster, 3-Inch, Gloss Black, 4 Count ), the wheel holes line up perfectly with 3/4" Galvanized Flange purchased at local hardware. [get lock washers for the bolts] Then I used a variety of galvanized pipe fittings to raise the height of the table to my needs. (I raised it 11" floor to base), including the wheels. I also put in a "T" that reduced the cross piece to 1/2" pipe. I spray painted it with (Rust-Oleum 271473 Universal All Surface Spray Paint, 11 oz, Metallic, Flat Soft Iron) I really like that aged iron look. This really works for me, I have a small condo and it's nice to easily get it out of the way when I want. ... show more

I bought this used so it has a couple of scuffs inside the cubbies and the magnets don’t work (didn’t come with instructions but was assembled all but the legs). These were very easy to put on and are sturdy. After reading about the too-strong magnets, I am actually glad they aren’t working. (They are there but possibly too low to make contact?). Anyway, it shuts slowly and safely without them but isn’t a pain to open which I like because I put that part outside facing. Would be nice if it had finger placements on the sides. All this said, I love this table! It is beautiful, sturdy and modern/retro if that makes sense. ... show more

Quality table, great looking piece of furniture that would seem to match any decor. My only issue is, it seems that maybe they made a bunch of these and had the plans upside down cause it has great looking open storage boxes that face outward which is of little use as the table lifts and opens in from the other side. So if your like me laying on the couch, you can't hide your remotes and crap easily, you'd need lift the top and hide stuff in there. It's a little bit of a big deal but it's so nice looking and made of quality wood, no veneer or particle board here. Also, real easy set up, screw the legs in, 3 screw each, done,15 min with a supplied Allen key. ... show more

I've had this table for about 6 months now and I am very happy with it. I live alone in a small space and use it as my dining table as well as coffee table. I found a low stool that works well with it, but a regular height chair or sofa works great too. There are other tables on Amazon with a similar design but it's worth spending the extra money for this one as it is very solid and durable and will most likely last a long time. First thing; there is no assembly, you just screw the legs on, easy peasy. Actually, first thing is getting into your living space. This table is HEAVY. It may not be the heaviest piece of furniture I own, but close. If you said it was 100 lbs. I'd believe. it. All the comments about the color of the wood; well, mine doesn't have any yellow coloration at all. The wood is very varied in color, but it is solid wood, which is amazing, and any other type of wood would no doubt cost a lot more. The top that pops out does not sit !00% against the stationary part, but I'd say maybe 95%. Hey, that's pretty close to perfect. And I do really love the fact that I can have a cute coffee table, then pop it up to get my laptop at a reasonable level, or eat a meal. Plenty of storage, it looks spiff; I'd say go ahead and buy it. But it is heavy. ... show more

I purchased to make my tiny, dingy, old apartment feel a bit bigger since my old trunk was too heavy/big for the room. I love it. It’s cute and clean. It allows me to do my grad homework while on my sofa. And it didn’t break the bank. I love that it is solid wood and has clean lines with a mid-century modern look. Downsides are that the hinges in the lift top compartment can close on things - it dented my laptop cover. Be VERY careful with what goes in there. It’s hard to figure out where the hinges will hit. There’s also some yellow coloring and dark spots on the wood that were there when it arrived... but won’t bother me until I move into a bigger/cleaner apartment with a new sofa. I too wanted the west elm coffee table, but didn't want to spend the extra money and stumbled upon this. Easy to assemble & good solid piece. I agree the magnet's are pretty strong for the pop up but I'd rather that than the latter.
