I was worried by other reviews about how hard it would be to put this together. But my worries were unfounded. The directions were clear and everything was clearly labeled. The advice I would give is to read the directions carefully so that the pre-drilled holes are facing the right direction. I was able to set it up by myself with two toddlers “helping” in about 45 minutes. Having two adults would be a big bonus as the desk is quite heavy. This is not particle board, but solid wood. The top of the desk is not perfectly smooth, but has the natural grooves of the wood. This isn’t a problem unless you really need a perfectly smooth surface for your work. I love the desk. Update 3/2/2025: It's been a couple of years or so of use on this desk. I thought I'd update my review in a positive way. While the earlier drawer issue hasn't changed I've come to have a new appreciation for the metal frame around the whole desk that I never really considered. It gives me a lot of real estate for magnetic attachments. I didn't realize how useful that aspect of this desk is. Phone holders, sewing machine lights, cable management U magnets, etc, can all be attached magnetically to the frame. It's pretty sweet. Original review is below ----------------------------------------------------------- For as nice as this desk is structurally and material-wise, the drawer slides are disappointing in quality, especially for the price of this desk. Assembling the desk requires that you remove the drawers to reach some bolt holes. Understandable. But, in removing the drawers they seemed to pull out spongy and with a fair amount of resistance. I chalked it up to it not being fully assembled. After assembling I went to put the drawers back in and found that the two side drawers went in ok, but were still hard to slide and sloppy on the wiggle action. I couldn't even get the middle drawer back in. It kept popping out of the right slide. After giving it a good stare for a couple of minutes, I realized that drawer was about an 1/8 of an inch or slightly more too narrow for the opening. The hardware on the drawer wasn't contacting the frame slides full enough to seat in the slide tracks. I bumped out the drawer hardware using some thick washers on both sides to keep it centered and tried again. It does stay in the slide tracks solidly now but the slide action is still stiff. I'll probably end up replacing the drawer slides with better ones from a big box store. It's a shame too since the quality of the rest of the desk is really nice. Drawers are full wood, top is solid and well finished and the metal frame is smooth and solid. It's just those darn drawer slides that stink. ... show more

I waited months for this desk to arrive, but I had researched so many others that I felt it was worth waiting for. I had decided I wanted a solid wood desk and wanted to minimize my exposure to harsh chemicals/off-gassing of MDF surfaces. That and the design of this desk were the two primary reasons I selected it. I'm still not certain this is a 100% solid wood surface and if it is, it appears to be a very cheap wood; it's very light and sounds hollow when tapping it. Assembly was not too bad. As I recall there were a couple of steps in the instructions that were not very clear and if a small detail was overlooked (which I did), it could require some extra time to correct. This could have been prevented with better instructions. They're not horrible - I've seen worse - but I've also seen better. My list of Pros and Cons: Cons: It is 31" tall. I believe the optimal height for a desk is 29", which is what I using prior to this desk, so it feels too high. A chair that adjusts to comfortable height may solve for this, but I imagine it depends on one's preferences. The varnish that was used is so strong that it initially made me dizzy when sitting at the desk. I'm sure that would decrease over time, but I was surprised how strong it is. The drawers do not slide in and out very easily. I think the quality of the ball bearing glides could be improved. The drawers do not sit perfectly inside the desk, a couple of them are just slightly off, which bothers me for a desk of this price. The surface is rough, which lends to the natural look, but you may not be able to write directly on top of it. May not be a deal-breaker, but something to be aware of. Pros: It is a good-looking desk. The colors are nice. I would call it modern-rustic. The beefy black metal tube frame gives it a solid appearance. The design is unique. Overall it's a decent desk with a unique design that could compliment a nicely designed office. At a lower price I may have considered keeping it and working with what I feel are it's shortcomings. ... show more

Haven't assembled any furniture for a decade, so assembling this took several hours. Happy that the directions were quite good. Impressed that the vendor included some spare hardware, the idea being that if you were missing a screw or a washer, chances are you would fine what you were missing in the spare hardware. Great idea! Often a screw or something else is missing, and you lose a lot of time trying to get the missing part. Here the spare parts included in the purchase could fix that problem immediately. In my case, all the parts were there and I had no problem assembling this. It is *sturdy*. I am so tired of Ikea like furniture that evokes the word "fragile". This is not fragile. Not at all. I am 6' 2" and the height of this desk is just perfect. Very happy with it. ---- Many months later and I am still perfectly happy with this desk. The drawers work perfectly. The desk is rock solid.
