The perfect thermos for a school lunch! I love this thermos my littles when they want a warm lunch menu item. We also have the thermos brand container for lunches and I still use that, but I do prefer this one over the thermos brand because of it's size, and ease of opening. Thanks to the handle on this thermos, both of my lower and upper elementary aged kids can open it independently and quickly during lunch. There have been a handful of times that they were unable to get the thermos brand one to open or struggled with it (no handle). The size is slightly taller than than the thermos brand and the opening is a little smaller. So, keep that in mind when it comes to what size of utensils you provide and what you put in it. Overall, it's comparable to other brands in how well it functions, durability and how it keeps food hot (always fill with piping hot water and put the lid on to sit before dumping out and filling with food). I purchased 2 of these thermos jars for my younger kids (5 year old and 3 year old) because their old ones were too small for them now and just in desperate need for an upgrade. These jars are SO PERFECT for my kids! why? 1. food stays warm for school lunches. (let hot water sit in thermos for a few minutes while capped, then add hot food inside). Today, I packed lunches at 7:30am and opened the thermos at 2:00pm and her leftovers were still lukewarm..and this is after she already opened it and had her lunch! 2. Easy to open and close. This was necessary for my kids to be able to do on their own at school and the simple twist handle is so large enough to hold securely and to grip and twist. 3. Size is perfect for a single serving for younger elementary child. We've done pasta, rice, noodles, soup, nuggets, dumplings, potstickers! These containers fit perfectly into skip hop lunch bags, target lunch bags, and even on the bottom lunch pocket of the bentgo backpack. 4. leakproof I typically put this container on the bottom pocket of the bentgo backpack turned on its side----IS FULLY LEAKPROOF. I have been looking for a container to keep my kids lunches warm for awhile, and I am so happy with the SM brand!!! Worth the price for warm lunches, full bellies and happy kids! Most importantly they keep food warm. I ordered two not realizing they actually were two different sizes. Both kept food warm, even though one was much taller than the other, which I was worried wouldn’t keep the food as warm with more airspace in it. What I do to keep them warm is I actually use the Keurig and fill the container all the way up with very hot water and I let it sit for at least 10 minutes whatever warm food I am making I warm it up and as soon as it’s done warming up, I empty the water and stick the Warm food right in the container and close it up! This has worked fabulous in keeping the food warm all the way through lunch. My daughter came home and said the food was hot! I love that it is easy to clean as well with only one rubber piece that you need to take off and clean! They have so many color options and they are very durable!! Kiddo can easily open and close container without having to ask the aids at lunch for help! Definitely buy!! ... show more

Okay, so I absolutely LOVE that this keeps food hot for hours. I pack my daughter's preschool lunch by 7:30 am and they have lunch at 11 am. When we first started using this, her teacher reached to inform me that her food was too hot and needed to be cooled down for about 15 mins before my daughter could eat it. Heat retention test, excellent! It also has not leaked and seems to be the perfect size for my 2 year old who loves her soups. Now the not so excellent... I purchased this October 27, and within a few weeks use I noticed a small dark spot began to develop at the seam of the wall towards the bottom of the jar. It started off dark gray and developed into brown rust within fhe last couple of weeks. We obviously can no longer use this, and I'm currently looking into other brands with hopes that the quality exceeds SM's. While I'd love to purchase this jar again, I'm just not willing to take that risk if it developed rust so quickly. I've attached a couple of photos, although the rust it looks dark grey in the images, it is actually brown. ... show more
