Silvertone Classic 1303/U2 SVB Electric Guitar, Silverburst From the Manufacturer Presenting the 1303/U2 by Silvertone Guitars View larger1303/U2 Key Features:Single Cutaway Mahogany body Mahogany 'C shape' bolt on neck with dual action truss rod 1 11/16" Nut width Rosewood fingerboard with 12" radius Pearl dot inlay 21 Nickel Silver frets 25" Scale Chrome hardware Chrome vintage style tuners BN-104 String through bridge with adjustable saddles Two vintage lipstick pickups 2 volume, 2 tone controls (stacked) 3-way selector switchJust like the original back in 1958, the Silvertone 1303/U2 offers a unique sound and playing experience that will inspire you to express yourself the same way as the rock icons that played the originals did...but we did see it fit to make a few minor changes. Why the Silvertone 1303/U2?The single cutaway body is made of solid Mahogany, for a deep rich tone not found in the original 1303/U2. The string through body bridge means faultless intonation and better string attack - an improvement over the original rosewood bridge. Two chrome lipstick pickups deliver clean sounding open chords, but kick in the drive and these babies will deliver a bluesy bite reminiscent of some of the greatest players in rock n roll history. We also paid special attention to the neck profile (we thought it best to actually give it a profile versus a table leg!), improving it with a modern C-shape, as well as coupling it to the body with a better engineered neck joint system, for better sustain. The individual machine heads are another improvement over the original - the results which both you and your audience will appreciate. How is this reissue different from the original 1303/U2?The body is made of solid Mahogany, for a deep rich tone not found in the original 1303/U2. The string through body bridge means faultless intonation and better string attack - an improvement over the original rosewood bridge. We also paid special attention to the neck profile, improving it with a comfortable C-shape, as well as coupling it to the body with a newly engineered neck joint system for longer sustaining notes. The individual machine heads are another upgrade over the original - the results which both you and your audience will appreciate.Lipstick Single Coil PickupsThe single- coil pickups of the 1303/U2 are wound to the same specifications as the originals. The "lipstick" case provides unmatched shielding for low noise and high signal.Upgraded HardwareThe original 1303/U2 had less-that-modern bridge, tailpiece and tuners. The Reissue has a fully adjustable bridge for accurate intonation and smooth individual tuners.Improved PlayabilityNeck shapes and fret jobs were inconsistent on the original 1303. The Reissue features a comfortable (and consistent) C-shaped neck with a precise and well-finished fret job. The neck also features a two-way truss rod for accurate and dependable adjustment.More about the Silvertone Classic series:The philosophy behind the Silvertone Classic line is to respect the original vintage designs, while improving on previous manufacturing limitations through modern engineering, parts, craftsmanship and most importantly, the opinions of modern guitar players . Silvertone guitars appeared in the 1930s, with electric 6-strings appearing in the early '40s. The Fabulous 50's was the decade where Silvertone electric guitars began to hit their stride. The first solid bodies appeared in 1954 and their immediate success was followed up with additional models. More than 25 solid, hollow, and hybrid guitars were introduced, many of them Silvertone classics. The 1960s were the Golden Age for guitars in America. Silvertone guitars were the entry point for countless young musicians. Today, the Silvertone tradition continues with the Silvertone Reissue line: the classic guitars with upgraded features at reasonable prices.More about Samick Music Corp.Established in 1958, Samick Musical Instruments Co. Ltd. has over 50 years of experience manufacturing high quality musical instruments. • Exceptional reissue!
Color: Gloss Black
I almost didn't purchase this guitar because of some of the reviews. Maybe I was one of the fortunate ones but it came out of the box set up perfectly and ready to play. I learned how to play guitar on silvertone and Dan electro instruments so I'm able to compare this realistically to the originals. The sound is incredible, and while it isn't identical to the original it's very close and in some ways better. The vendor got the guitar to me within a few days in perfect condition. Several reviewers commented that the guitar was a "toy" and had a short scale. This guitar has a 25" scale which is right between Gibson and most Fenders, perfect in my opinion ! Do you self a favor and buy one! ... show more

  • Great little throwback guitar
Color: Silverburst
Fantastic little electric with a big mod sound. Out of the box it needed a little emery board sanding down of the high (e) side of the frets in a couple spots to prevent the string from slipping off the finger board and getting stuck there but after that small touch up plays perfectly.

  • Not the same construction as the Danelectro it mimics!
Color: Gloss Black
This isn't a particularly bad "cheap" guitar, but not a fabulous bargain either. If I paid "a buck fifty" or so for it, I would have kept it, even though it is an epic fail in one aspect... This axe LOOKS like a vintage "Danelectro" style "U2" guitar, but it is NOT built like a classic "Dano!" This is a solid body guitar. It is NOT a semi hollow, Masonite top and back, hardwood frame built, chambered body. The comparison to vintage Sears "Silvertone" guitars which were genuine Danelectros is misleading. Looking like a U2 Dano and having "lipstick" pickups is as close as this one gets. ALSO, there was a 10% "restocking" fee ($29.90 - ouch) to return this unit to the seller. ... show more

  • FUN PLAYER WITH GOOD TONE
Color: Gloss Black
This reissue of an older model from the past that, was made by Danelectro, for Sears or Wards I believe, is a nice guitar worthy of every penny. The Danos are made with masonite board and bound on the edges with vinyl tape, This guitar by Silvertone, is an improved version, with a solid mahogany body and string through body like a Telecaster. Tuning is fantastic like a Tele also, with minimal string stretching needed after you change out the factory strings. Nice tone as well. Warm, and also, with some fiddling of knobs and things, and a slide it can get Jimmy Page's "In My Time of Dying" tone, that he got with the Danelectro. I would have given it five stars, but for some reason they have the truss rod access on the heel of the neck, instead of at the headstock. I removed the neck when I changed the strings and barely moved the truss nut. Action is nice , Fretwork is nice . Also, they have dual action truss rods which, I think is an improvement. For whom it may concern, I bought a Silvertone 1478 offset guitar from Zzounds that, I liked so much, I also bought the Red Burst color from Guitar Center, as well.If you like Offset guitars also ,check that model out. Amazon has the black Silvertone 1478 still, I believe . WM ... show more
