Built-in cooling fan behind the chassis ensures drives run cool for extended life while individual LED indicators let users easily monitor drive status in one glance. • Well build trayless 5-slot drive bay using SATA power connectors
Style: Trayless w/Lock Size: Five 3.5"
I bought three of these for my storage enclosure. I chose these because they take standard SATA power connectors and support 12Gbps SAS. They are build really well. I like that they are trayless. I had no issues with my drives in any of the 15 slots (3 x 5). Drives perform well and temps are between 32-35C which is very reasonable. My drives are not under high load. The fan is not loud but also not silent. I am debating to replace them with a lower RPM version. A couple of things to remember when purchasing them. First, they're deep so make sure you have room in your case. Second, if your case has drive guides or tabs, you have to remove them before you can install this unit. You can bend them with a deep throat clamp. The only negative thing is that the purple drive activity LED is not very visible and mostly drowned out by the blue power LED. I wish they would go with a green led for drive activity. ... show more

  • Solid Storage Expansion
Style: Trayless w/Lock Size: Five 3.5"
I recently picked up the SilverStone FS305-12G to add some extra drives to my system, and I'm really happy with it. This thing is built like a tank! Swapping drives is super easy with the hot-swap bays, which is awesome. I was worried about compatibility with my SAS drives, but it works perfectly. The built-in fan does a good job keeping things cool, and it's way quieter than I expected. I actually bought a Noctua fan to replace it, but honestly, I don't think I'll bother. It even comes with a key to lock the drives, which is a nice touch, and the little LED lights let you know what's going on. If you need more space for hard drives, definitely check this out. It's been great so far! ... show more

  • Cage is great, but the fan leaves something to be desired.
Style: Trayless w/Lock Size: Five 3.5"
The cage seems well constructed and the technical functionality has been superb. However, I did have to replace the fan on the unit after less than 2 weeks use. The fan started making clicking sounds. As I didn't want to be without a cage, I replaced the fan with an extra fan I had. Standard power connectors, sizing, and mounting made this easy, but I knocked one star off due to the fan failure. ... show more

  • Costs a bit more, but seems built quite a bit better
Style: Trayless w/Lock Size: Four 3.5"
I have a couple old-style PC computer cases with openings for three 5.25 inch drives, and I have lots of 3.5 inch hard drives. A couple years ago, I bought a couple other, cheaper brands of these sorts of bays to fit four 3.5" drives into each of my case's three high drive bays ... that worked ... but the slots and connectors started failing over time, due to cheap construction. One by one, a slot would start failing. I've now replaced those older, cheaper, bays with a pair of these Silverstone FS304 bays, and I am initially pleased with the construction of these bays. Each point of failure on my older cheaper bays seems to have been better engineered and manufactured on this Silverstone bay. Now I expect these Silverstone FS304 bays to last quite a bit longer. Also my drives slide in and out more easily and precisely aligned, and now I no longer need to attach a custom bracket to each drive, as this bay is designed to accept naked 3.5" hard drives, as is. Good stuff, as I often see from Silverstone. ... show more

  • Don't lose all your data!
Style: Plastic Tray Size: Four 3.5"
It's a bit expensive, but you know what they say, "molex to sata, lose all your data". Unlike most other similar models, this one only uses the molex to power the fan, and uses that single SATA power in some kind of splitter arrangement. It works great, and while a bit pricey, I can sleep better knowing my drives are being powered properly. ... show more

  • Simple but nice
Style: Trayless w/Lock Size: Five 3.5"
Purchased two of these to use in a build. They were easy to install. I did have an issue when I used the bottom holes for mounting as they stuck up inside the cage. I had use the screws provided for my case, versus the ones that came with the drive, so that could've been the issue. Instead I just mounted on the top. I really like how you just pop the drives in with no cages required for them. They look nice and are solid. ... show more

  • Easy way to add 3.5" drives in a 5.25" drive bay

  • Would not buy again
Style: Trayless w/Lock Size: Five 3.5"
What others haven't told you. First thing the unit is not as solid built as my old icy dock. I purchased this because i wanted the trayless version and this one claims it supports sas12. The biggest complaint that i have is the catastrophic design choice. The screws to screw this into the computer case are way too short. The length of the screw was not enough to go through a thing peice of sheet metal and still catcht he threads inside the unit. So either the cage will be sliding everywhere in my case or I have to get a longer screw. Thesre is zero tolerance for teh screw to go into the case. If it does, it will scrape the drives as you try to put them in the first and last slot. I loosened the longer screw just enough to make sure it was hanging out in the inside of the unit, but the screw was lose. ... show more
