I bought a BlackTip DPV this year and on my first outing, I used my wrist compass to navigate. After a few trips, I once found myself going north when I wanted to go east. I surfaced much further north on a drift dive in SE Florida than the rest of the boat. Fortunately, they saw my DSMB and quickly picked me up. They didn't let me completely get out of my gear because we needed to head a decent distance back to the south to pick up another diver before losing sight of them. They asked, "I thought you were going to go east?" I responded with, "I did!?!?" Well, I didn't, I was definitely to the north. The solution? Get a compass mounted on my DPV. This compass was recommended on Scubaboard, so I was willing to wait for the long shipping time. Other DPV divers had a different brand of kayak compass which looked nice as well, but there was an issue with that model, it had metal mounting screws holding it to the base which start to rust. It also had a sliding cover which required removal. This compass required zero modifications, and I don't see any metal mounting screws that will rust. In the photo, you can see my Blacktip DPV between the two Tusa EVO DPVs with the mounted compass. I originally crisscrossed the bands, but after the first time diving with it, the compass moved a little, so I reattached the straps without crossing them. Excellent compass for scuba dpv
Attached it on Seacraft GO! dpv, in the front mose it is not affected by motor or battery. Diving up toe 45 meters no problem, haven't tried deeper.

The compass is great. However, It came in a box that was clearly opened before. It wasn't even fully closed and the internal packaging was bent up. The compass was actually visibly dirty in the box. It looked like someone put the compass on their boat, didn't like it, half assed stuffed it back in the box and then it was immediately shipped to me. I am not sure if there were supposed to be paperwork in the box but that was missing too. ... show more
