  • A fresh new entry to one of my favorite horror series
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Day One Edition
Great soundtrack and audio design as always, very creepy and unique monster designs, exciting and frantic, and an interesting story. It's not a perfect game. Combat can feel clunky, but at this point it's almost a trademark of the game. Weapon durability didn't seem necessary beyond making it harder to survive unless you run from most encounters. Navigating the village can be tough as it's cramped, packed with monsters and lots of dead ends, plus the occasional surprise jump scare. Overall better than I expected. ... show more

  • Overlooked gem
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Day One Edition
This one caught me by surprise. Didn't expect to enjoy this one. It just seemed so far removed from SH at 1st glance. However if you give it a chance, you will find out that it's a solid horror game. I understand why it got some pushback now but I must admit it was a good experience. Even my most stubborn buddies stopped blasting the game after awhile and got invested into the crazy storyline. Great visuals, awesome art direction, sweet ost, neat story beats and solid combat. I look forward to the "we were wrong about SHF" videos later down the line. ... show more

  • A Creepy, Beautiful Silent Hill Experience
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Day One Edition
I’m a few hours in and Silent Hill f has completely pulled me in. The atmosphere, the lore, and the story are everything I want from a Silent Hill game: it’s creepy, tragic, and intriguing. The combat is a little clunky, but honestly that’s part of the series’ DNA; Silent Hill has always been more about tension and vulnerability than fast action, and it works here too. What I love most is how the game sometimes feels exactly like Silent Hill — oppressive fog, grotesque monsters, unnerving sound design — and then at other times it feels like its own thing ... show more

  • Silent Hill game in a Japanese setting in the 1960's. Unique from the other games in the series.
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Day One Edition
Just finished the game last night. I think that last year's Silent Hill 2 remake is better than Silent Hill f, but I will give credit to the developers at NeoBard for doing something different for Silent Hill. And not just rehashing the same Silent Hill 2 formula over and over again. The combat in Silent Hill f has depth and is interesting to say the least. It can be pretty frustrating in many sections in the game though, but I felt I was getting better at it as the game progressed, which is more than I can say for some other action type games. I would recommend setting the action difficulty to the "story" setting if you are having a hard time, as I did. I am doing a new game+ now with the setting set to "hard", now that I know what to expect and have gotten more used to the combat and dodging/parry system and more familiar with the enemies and bosses. I completed the game last night after around 13 and 1/2 hours. This game has some disturbing scenes and the overall mood I really enjoyed for a Silent Hill game. And the fog, like Silent Hill 2 remake is some of the best I have ever seen in a video game. Even though Unreal Engine 5 games get a lot of criticism for performance, there is no denying the game looks fantastic and beautiful. And I played the game on "Quality" setting set at 30 fps, I had no major issues of slowdown at all during my play through. I really loved Hinako as a main character, who is both beautiful and complex for the series as a whole. The game has a tragic story and one that will stay with you, like many other Silent Hill games in the franchise..There are several additional endings to unlock after beating the game the first time, that provides more context and closure to the overall lore and story here that is being told in Silent Hill f. I just finished the "Fox Ending" last night, it being my 2nd playthrough, I strongly believe this is a great game with very strong writing and storytelling. There are differing messages around each ending that will provide more context, and finally a "true ending" after at least your 3rd playthrough, provided you meet all the in game conditions to reach that ending. The game also helps you out by listing what you need to do to gain each ending after beating the game the first time. I strongly feel based on what I have played so far, that Silent Hill f handles the themes it tries to tackle very well. I absolutely adored the soundtrack and loved all the new tracks from Akira Yamaoka. He is a legendary composer in the games industry and I am so grateful for him that he is continuing to do the Soundtracks for Silent Hill games, especially at his age. So in conclusion, please give the game a try if you are interested, keep an open mind, but accept that it is different from Silent Hill 2 or any other Silent Hill game...and you will enjoy it enormously I think. There are more options with items and strategy during fights and in some ways Silent Hill f does remind me of a RPG game. So in that sense I can see why the game would be divisive for some people. However alot of different Silent Hill games have also experimented with different combat systems over the years, so in my eyes, I give the developers here credit with what they were trying to do with this game. I would give this game a 8/10, or 4/5 stars here on Amazon. It is currently sitting on a 86 on Metacritic which seems fair. I wouldn't take the user critics score that is currently showing a 7.2 seriously at all. The game is facing some sort of strange culture war review bombing right now so I suspect the user score there to worsen. There are far too many extremely toxic fans of this IP unfortunately that are very unforgiving and opinionated about everything related to the IP and future games. I guess they want every Silent Hill game to be like 2, which to me would be equally disappointing and uninteresting, even though I love 2. Play the game/watch a youtube video of gameplay and decide for yourself instead. Don't let other people, here on Amazon reviews as well tell you only they know what Silent Hill is. Play the game and decide for yourself. Be willing to give this game an open mind and you will find it is highly intelligent, terrifying in many places and has a excellent and haunting story you won't soon forget. I think as time goes on the game will become more of a cult classic favorite within the fanbase even. ... show more

  • 😶
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Day One Edition
A fun and thrilling horror game with an amazing atmosphere and fantastic music. The gameplay is excellent, though the story could be stronger. I feel the game might have been better received if it wasn’t tied to the Silent Hill name and had a fresh title of its own. Still, highly recommended for horror fans. ... show more
