  • Just like the one I used as a kid
My father bought one of these pumps used when he was in his 20s. That was in In the 80s. I used that pump all through my childhood, and it's the best pump I've ever used. It never leaked and it was easy to inflate, even for a little kid pumping his tubeless race tires up to 200psi. When I moved out, I knew I couldn't take it with me, so I needed to get one myself. From what I can tell, it's still just as good of a pump. On the newer model, the hose is a little less solid than the nylon reinforced one on the older version of this pump, but the valve is a lot nicer and the handle is pretty slick. I look forward to never having to buy another pump, aside from occasionally buying new leathers, but that maintainence is cheap and easy. ... show more

  • Pump rod broken
Rod unattached from internal plunger and non-functional after occasional light use. Not what I would expect from a high end pump, and disappointing timing just before a biking trip with family.

  • Completely Useless Silca Flloor Track Pump -- Beware
Just opened up package abt 1/2 hr ago. Snipped off zip ties from pump packaging, removed wrapping from presta chuck, and started to pump up MTB tires I planned to use early tomorrow am at Silver Falls SP in Oregon. Instantly felt no pressure pushing handle downwards. Pulled handle up and entire rod came up without any leather gasket attached. Carefully disassembled upper tube cap, and only found the parts you see in pic. Maybe leather gasket is at bottom of tube, but pump never assembled correctly? I've raced 40+ yrs (and still racing) and NEVER had this kind of experience with a Silca track pump. Sticker # under base of pump is 2206. Last Silca pump I had lasted 30+ yrs (mainly track/velodrome racing), with regular care and maintenance. Silca should be embarrassed with this kind of very poor assembly quality. I expect a full refund/credit from Amazon. Buyer beware! Silca was a French company, but now manufactured in Taiwan. Will NEVER buy Silca again! ... show more

  • Worth it in the long run?
I like road bikes, I like tubulars on my road bikes, I like my tubulars 22-25mm wide, I like latex tubes in my tubulars. What does this mean? It means I have to pump my tires everyday. I have to pump to a high psi and the latex tubes slowly leak, roughly 15psi a day. Since it’s something I have to do every day, I thought I’d treat myself and go with the silica pista. I have a mid range pump, $35, that works great. There is one problem with it. It’s rated to 160psi, at around 130psi it gets hard to pump. Some of my tires have a max psi of 175, I like to go around the max rating, it feels faster to me. First impression, the pump is sturdy, looks incredible, it’s machined and engineered extremely well. It should be the last pump I ever need. All the parts are replaceable and easily rebuilt, if something should fail. I love that about the pump. I’d give it 5 stars if that’s all that mattered. I also love that it’s rated to 220psi, and it’s easy to pump afrer 130. Unfortunately what matters most is how it works, and that’s where the 3 star rating comes in. Getting the press on head seated feels awkward. It feels like I’m damaging something forcing it on. Once I finally get it seated (after losing 50psi fumbling with it) it feels like it’s about to shoot off and break a spoke or dent the bike. It’s slightly nerve wracking once I’m over 120psi. I feel like these problems could be solved with the silca hiro chuck, and I’ll probably go that route. At that point I’m $170 into my pump cost. the pista/hiro chuck could become my perfect pump and I may edit this review after going that route. I wish silca offered a pista/hiro chuck combo at a discounted price, rather than buying separately. For now, I’m sticking with my 3 star rating. Edit: I’ve since got the hiro chuck and the pump is great. I should point out that the press on head, that comes stock on the pump, never actually shot off and caused damage. It just didn’t feel safe and secure at high pressure, to me. If you have the money, and use pumps regularly, I would highly recommend this pump with a hiro chuck ... show more

  • Silca quality
Great pump! I do wish it had a longer hose so that I could use it with my bike still on the stand but great other than that

  • Ahhh, a nice pump :)
I have lived off jenky mini pumps for decades (eons?), so experiencing a nice pump is a pleasure! Plus, I can rebuild it so it will stay functioning top notch; anyone know where to get some Silca pump blood? Probably go right to the source I suppose. I immediately sanded the ash handle velvety smooth, dyed it blue then waxed it :). happy, happy; joy, joy ... show more

  • I really wanted to love this pump, but...
I am a big fan, owner, and user of well-engineered tools. I appreciate them. I really do. As others have said, the pump action is smooth and a step above other pumps I have used. The small handle doesn't bother me at all. I am confident that I will eventually come to appreciate the chuck, though I am not there yet. Here are my gripes. The gauge reads to 200psi, which is much higher than needed. As a result, the scale is pretty condensed and smaller than it need have been. Furthermore, the gauge is at the base of the pump, putting it farther away and more difficult to read accurately. Additionally, the hose connects at the base of the pump, and is not quite long enough to easily service a bike in a stand. I'm afraid I held onto the pump beyond the return-eligible date, so I am stuck with this not-so-great tool. ... show more
