I've had these for 4 days. The smell other reviews report was there when these arrived. I put both dumbells in shadow out on my deck for a day. They still smell a bit but only when you get very close to them, and the smell is definitely dissipating. They work and feel and balance like the ones in a regular gym. Good grip and both dumbells are evenly balanced. Weight is 19.6 pounds each. (I've never weighed the ones in the gym but I'd be surprised if those are spot-on at 20 pounds. These have the same heft as gym ones). They also seem robust and unlikely to fall apart. Overall I am very pleased with these and would buy them again. July 17. Ten days since I received these. The smell is nit noticeable unless you put your nose about an inch from the black rubber. These were a good deal and seem the same as what use in a local gym. After reading a lot of reviews, I was expecting a stronger rubbery smell to these, and was fine with it due to the price---But these had a very minor smell that was not bothersome at all...Like the smell I expect anything made of that material to have, but it wasn't strong like I thought it would be. I love these weights and have been implementing them into my program! I think they're a great deal for the price, and feel just like the weights I've used in the gym. Seems like most are around 1lb per dollar so a great value. We use them all the time. The reason why its a 4 and not a 3 is the smell. Over a month later the still have a heavy order. I just started working out so this was unfortunately an unexpected surprise

    • Cannot beat the price!
I have a full set of dumbbells, but my son keeps stealing my heavier weights to use for his workouts. I had been resistant to getting him his own set because of the cost. Then I came across this set -- actually a PAIR (not just one) for less than the price I had been finding for a single 20# dumbbell. So I immediately ordered them. They arrived, and other than a pretty strong chemical smell that I assume will wear off as they air out, they look just like the ones in my full set. I like the Hex ends as they work better when you have to hold the set together for a move. There is a metal textured grip with a slight flare in the center that helps with grip.
