  • Excellent rendering and build quality
Style: For Sony E
This lens is light years beyond any of the plastic Sony lenses in terms of build quality. This lens is outstanding in its rendering and I find it sharp and contrasty. The bokeh is smooth and really makes images pop. Some reviews say it’s not sharp on the edges which might be true but I honestly never looked at a photo from this lens and thought it looked soft. Maybe close up wide open it’s got some glow but that’s the worst one could say. Highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Light weight, great build quality!
Style: For Sony E
Very sharp, too! I shoot almost exclusively Nikon Z. Bought this for travel with my Sony. Light weight. Feels great. Only complain is the manual focus ring. Too close to lens hood.

  • I love this lens
Style: For Sony E
This lens has different properties, its made for medium to far away subjects. The out of focus rendering of this lens is smooth and gives the subject a bit of pop. Wide open at close distances it isn't that sharp and has a bit of a glow that lends itself well to plant and flower photography. I have only used it for photos so i cant comment about the autofocus performance in video. The AF managed well for a few portrait shots i took. This is actually a great lens for environmental portraits, architecture and BW photography. Overall, it creates very appealing photos and has replaced my Sony FE 35mm 1.8 as my go to lens for casual shooting. ... show more

  • Find it to a very good lens
Style: For Sony E
Really nice lens. From 5 ft away and infinity very sharp and contrasty with nice bokeh and nice rendering. There I a bit of a glow super up close like a foot away. Actually makes for unique semi macro look. I have a couple G master lenses and this seems to have same quality look.

  • Unreliable autofocus — I returned this lens
Style: For Sony E
This 45mm f2.8 lens for Sony was the first Sigma lens I bought. (I have owned many Canon, Fuji, and Micro Four Thirds lenses.) I was disappointed to find, through repeated tests across the aperture range, that the autofocus on the 45mm was unreliable. Researching online after my tests, I found a number of people complaining about poor autofocus on this lens. Some attributed the problem to the stepping motor used for AF. People who had owned several different lenses in the Sigma Contemporary line said they all were problematic for autofocus, but that the 45mm was the worst. I was considering several Sigma lenses for my new Sony camera, but now I'm hesitant about Sigma, though the more expensive lenses that use Hyper Sonic Motors for AF may be OK, or even more than OK. ... show more
