  • Mostly great
While the sound and build are as good as everyone says, there are two blatant flaws, both stemming from the same place: the volume knob. Dialing the volume knob results in a loud static-y noise broadcast from the amp, which completely undermines the purpose of having live local volume control. I returned the first one I got, assuming it was defective, but alas the replacement has the same issue. Either this is a major design flaw, or the defect is so commonplace as to de facto make it a part of the design. The other defect stems from the fact that the knob, which is a recent addition, replaced what used to be a threaded hole where conceivably one could rig a connection to a mic stand. Now one has to order a third-party plastic piece and hope for the best. This seems like a big oversight, for although this is billed as a harmonica mic, many if not most harp players are also vocalists who need to put the mic down sometimes. Those two defects aside, it is still a great relief to have high-quality electronics inside a satisfyingly solid and heavy metal housing, the likes of which are rarely still seen. Even the fact that this is a non-cardioid microphone that picks up all kinds of background noise adds to its old-school charm. UPDATE: After a few sessions of good use, the static noise on the volume knob went away, so I revise my rating up to 41/2 stars. Presumably it just need to loosen up and self-lubricate. ... show more

  • meanest mic for the money
This mic provides me the loudest, gainiest, dirtiest, ampiest sound for my harps,... all of them. Every harp sounds better behind this mic. There is plenty of cord provided with the mic. I have already "tested the durability" of this device 2 or 3 times, and it came off the floor still functioning up to specifications. ... show more

  • Great mic, but where’s the pouch?
Great mic, does exactly what it is meant to do. Sounds great through a Fender Champion 600! My only complaint is that there is no pouch or case included, as there is with an SM58 or SM57. As it’s priced higher than either, seems to me there should be one.

  • The gold standard of harp mics!
You can't go wrong with a Shure green bullet! I've been using them for over 40 years. Its not a crystal mic or anything, but its not fragile like a crystal, and won't degrade and wear out like a crystal either. If fact these things are virtually indestructable! I got over 10 years of abusive service out of the last one, and it still works minus the volume pot - It's now my backup unit. ... show more

  • Best sound for the price!
This is THE MIC for harmonica players. There may be more expensive ones with cleaner sound, but for rock and blues, this is the best performer. Much easier to hold than a regular Shure "tube design" mic. The width of this mic also helps to get a more even volume across more holes.

  • Great sounding large in the hand mic.
The green bullet is an awesome sounding mic. The problem I have it is so large I can not get a good air seal around the hard to get any hand cupping effects. I have a Shaker Mad Cat, that mic gives you the ability to get a good seal allowing more hand effects. The green bullet is deeper and rich sounding. It's a great product. You definitely pay for the rugged construction and build quality. ... show more

  • Great little harmonica microphone
When my turn came to produce a harp solo, I used to get right up on the microphone & take my jam. Often times the vocal mic would be too hot (or not hot), or not covered with a screen exposing it to scraping sounds from the harmonica. With the green bullet, the mic & harp become one. Plus, I can control the volume myself, & not depend of moving further away, or closer just to get the sound I want. It's a beauty. ... show more

  • Nice harmonica mic.
This came as advertised. A little pricey, but it sounds great and is pretty comfortable to hold with a harmonica...even a 24 hole harp which is already pretty bulky. I like now being able to pipe it into my computer to get some delay and reverb, etc on it. It makes me sound like I really know how to play. ... show more
