  • The Magician X was already a great printer, but Mingda was able to make it even better!
Color: Black
I bought this printer for my husband after he raved on and on about how much he liked the first one he bought. Turns out, the first one was version 1 of the Magician X, while this one was version 2. Here's what he likes so much about the printer, especially version 2. - The Magician just works! It is super easy to set up and get going. A few screws, a couple cables, bam! You're printing in less than half an hour from opening the box. - The direct drive extruder makes loading filament SOOOO easy! Plus, it seems to be way more reliable than a Bowden tube. - The dual Z drive screws make for super accurate prints going up. No X gantry sagging on this printer. - Automatic bed leveling means there's no bed springs to mess with. Level it, and it just works! Plus, it is fast, so you can G29 to your printer code and run a level every print if you want (but you don't need to, that's how reliable it is). - Adhesion almost every single print!! Sometimes a print doesn't stick, but a quick wipedown of the bed with some rubbing alcohol and it sticks perfectly the next try. - The touchscreen and settings are so easy to use! I love that there's a preheat and leveling button right on the main screen. Some printers require pressing five or six buttons to do either of those things. The Magician takes two buttons to preheat, and one to level. - The standard SD card slot is way more versatile than just a microSD slot, plus there's the addition of a USB-A to print from a flash drive. But the real kicker is the USB-C port. I don't even use SD cards or flash drives. I print directly from my computer with the USB-C port. And it is way more reliable a connection than the microUSB that other printers have. Then here's the upgraded bits from version 1 to 2: - The heated bed cable now has a couple "fins" on it that can be secured to the bed to avoid sagging. The older version could sag, and damage the cable. That's been fixed! A small yet incredibly important detail that was perfectly fixed by Mingda! - The heated bed has two small cutouts on either side to make lifting the glass top off easier. This seems like another small detail, and yet is so much appreciated! - I'm not sure if the glass was changed at all, but dang my prints stick to the bed of the version 2 printer like nobody's business!! I have to use a scraper and hammer to get parts off, which seems like much, but that just means my prints are sticking where they should, and it also means I have had the absolute most minimal issue with warping. Seriously, only a couple prints, and they were quite large. I also was able to stop it but upping the bed temp. - Finally, version 2 has a second part cooling fan in the hotend housing! This just makes cooling that much better and more controlled, thus resulting in better prints. Mingda somehow took the amazing Magician X printer and made it even better. It's like magic! But it's actually real!! This is the best starter printer for anyone looking to get into 3D printing, and also a perfect choice for someone like my husband who has been 3D printing for more than a couple years. ... show more

  • Mingda is almost magical
Color: Black
I had troubles with a competitor's 3 D Printer - 2 units both DOA. Second type of unit on my list to buy was the Mingda Magician X. I ordered the unit right AFTER a sale period. OH well. Assembly was just as easy as stated in manual. By the way - download the manual and use PDF to increase type size to read it more easily - hint for older eyes. I downloaded the firmware update after unit was assembled and booted up. But before I did any leveling, etc. Firmware transferred to SD card. It has to be inserted BEFORE boot up (as per most Pcs, etc.)Mingda Loaded firmware fine and dandy. Went to auto level unit. I had some problems with that. My fault - forgot to check all belt tensions. HAD to tighten X axis belt a bunch to get correct tension. Then auto leveling was EASY. Set unit to do test print. The test model was from the Mingda SD card. Print was OK BUT I needed to increase Bed Temp a bit to get correct initial adhesion. Second print was MUCH better all around. 20 mm cube came out to 20.09x20.08x20.1 was no other changes in settings. Pretty damned good to start. A third print ran out of filament mid print. I rushed to swap out with new filament AND PUT IN THE WRONG type. I caught the error within a minute. and got unit to resume print with second Correct filament. Needless to say that print had issues with adhesion and layers due to the filament changes. Well it's a learning process. After running a couple of benchies, I have fine tuned the settings where they are more than acceptable to me. Now working on printing parts for my model railroad. These will be multiple sets of small parts per print. I am waiting for results which I expect to be excellent. All in all, The MIngda Magician X has been exactly what I wanted in a 3D printer. Easy set up and easy to work with. I highly recommend it for newbies to 3D printing (like me) who do not want to start with tiny built plate units. So far, so happy Update May 12, 2022 After using Mingda for several weeks I have too say that my initial review stands. Got to understand 3D printing and the unit's limitations. The Importance of tuning printer to the various filaments from the 100's of vendors should be stressed by ALL 3 D printer manufacturers. Even within same brand and type I have found variations in results, depending on color, textures, etc. This has nothing to do with Mingda, just a reality of the process. Multiple prints of small parts require almost constant monitoring to get tolerances just so. Again the nature of the beast, NOT a Mingda issue as such. I can see many uses for this technology in my future and MIGDA will be a part of it. ... show more

  • Great printer and even better customer service
Color: Black
The Mingda Magician X is my very first 3d printer. It has worked very well for the time that I have had it. The printer is well built and has held up pretty well for almost a year now with many prints under its belt. Most issues that I have come across have been due to my lack of knowledge surrounding 3d printing but have been resolved through learning how to use the slicing software properly. Slicing is an art form unto itself. The printer is worth the price based on the features. Yet the printer works out to be less expensive than similar printers that come with less features and would cost you time and money in order to upgrade them to what the Magician X can do out of the box. Rest assured that if you ever run into an issue with printer itself or you have a question about it's functionality, Mingda's tech support is top notch. The few times that I have had to reach out to support have been pain free. Tech support responds in a timely manner with relevant answers to your questions. I would like to thank Eva from Mingda's support team. She has been especially helpful to me. ... show more

  • Disappointed
Color: Black
After using this printer for four months I am disappointed in the print quality. It's a nicely designed, easy to assemble printer with many nice features. Auto bed levelling, dual Z stepper motors, dual part cooling fans, direct drive, to name a few. Many reviewers have had a great experience with this printer. However, I unfortunately was not one of them. Here are the issues I believe contributing to the print quality. The touch pad requires several touches before it responds and at times not what you enter. Even after upgrading to the new Mingda Firmware release. There is a display file in the release but no way to install it. I was never able to get a print free of artifacts. I attributed this to not being able to get the gantry perpendicular to the print bed. The levelling program was not able to compensate for it. The Z Axis has dual stepper motors with a synchronization belt linking the two. This is a nice feature however the belt is too loose with no way to adjust the tension resulting in the stepper motors getting out of sync with each other by a degree or two. There is no feature to adjust the flow rate while printing as the printer tends to under extrude even after extruder calibration. The filament is difficult to insert as it gets hung up in the extruder gears and the guide into the hotend. After cutting the filament end at a 45 degree angle the filament needs to be perfectly straight. Otherwise you need to open the extruder tensioning gear and guide it through. The final disappointment came when adjusting the nozzle height for the initial layer. While adjusting the nozzle down, babystepping at 0.01mm increments the display jumped to a 0.05mm move and seriously scraped the surface of the glass print bed. To make matters worse the display stopped responding and I had to turn the printer off to avoid further damage. I believe this can be and is a good 3D printer. Many reviewers have a good experience with this printer but unfortunately I was not one of them. ... show more

  • Wow! 5 stars, great job Mingda!
Color: Black
I would highly recommend this printer for beginners and experts alike. Look no further. You will simply not find a better machine with the same features at this price point. Direct drive extruder, dual Z motors, autoleveling, filament sensing, auto restart, and even a toolbox among other features. I did my research before purchasing my first printer and decided on little known Mingda at the time, but they are now being recognized in the community. They have been building professional machines for years but are fairly new to the hobbyist market. I wasn't expecting that much but when I unpacked it I was shocked by the build quality, a sturdy, well built machine with quality components. And virtually no assembly required, a real bonus for beginners. Setup was so easy, and the print quality superb. I fell in love and recently bought the Magician X. The auto leveling is unique, no knobs or adjustments necessary besides Z offset. An added bonus is the customer service. With many machines you are lucky to get any customer service at all, and not only does Mingda respond quickly, but Eva and other representatives actually work to help you out. All in all I am happy to say that I am now a MIngda guy for many reasons, and am looking for a T-shirt to show my support, haha. One thing to keep in mind is that any machine of this nature is subject to going out of adjustment in transport. Always check belt tensions and eccentric nuts after setup as many bad prints are blamed on the printer when it simply needs adjustments. I give it 5 stars in all categories although for beginners, the manual could be added to even though it is well illustrated and laid out, not big enough of a reason to detract from a 5 star rating. • Great printer for advanced and begginers
Color: Black
I recently got into 3d printing and started with an ender 3. I loved the idea but the ender was so hard to keep leveled even with buying their leveling solution and the stock board was so loud it was like nails on a chalkboard. I decided to return and search elsewhere. I did a bit more research and ended on this magician. Out of the box the installation is much simpler. Takes minutes from box to print. This also solved the constant issue I was having with the ender by having a full auto level. I had 1-2 occurrences where the level didn't quite work as expected and dragged the board a bit so make so to watch your print after leveling but overall it reduces 99% of the headaches new users have with trying to get a complete print. The only other issue I had was with the extrusion during the first few test prints but, I was able to get those sorted and after a firmware update they removed the option to "back up" the extruder which I believe was actually causing my jams. The easier way to replace filament is to preheat, push filament forward and then gently pull it out. I've had no issues since I started doing it that way. All in all this is a great printer and it has a lot of QOL improvements the ender doesn't have without buying upgrades. I easily see this being my main printer for a long time until I'm ready to step up to a printer able to handle nylon but, even then I'll keep this printer for pla and petg. Also I want to point out how great mingda's customer service is. They have gone above and beyond to correct the few issues I had when I first got the printer and imo it's rare to find a company so dedicated to making sure the customer is happy with their product. My next 3d printer purchase will definitely be the magician pro. One final thought and this applies to any printer. Get a dry box. There are many options out there and if you live in an area with any humidity it's much needed. ... show more

  • Extremely Helpful Customer Service from Mingda Reps
Color: Black
I purchased a used printer based off reviews on the Facebook groups I'm in and some tags that the reps had made about the used printers being 90% user error and returned with 10% or so having an issue with the power supply. I of course drew the straw of one that looked like it had been packed with someone's old one and they had just swapped a new one with a broken one. The big save here came from one of the Mingda Reps, Leo. He worked with me to send replacement parts (which came extremely quick), on top of speaking to his engineers to diagnose issues. At the end of the day, I was unable to get the printer up and running as this had really gone through the ringer with the previous owner. I was so impressed by the customer service however, that I decided to purchase a new one and return the defective one. I'm looking forward to seeing how a new one works right out of the box. I own other printers, from other manufacturers and have had to wait WEEKS for a response and provide a ton of paperwork. Leo was able to see my Amazon purchase and assisted immediately without having to make me jump through hopes for support. Once I receive my new printer, I'll edit this a bit to give it a true review on functionality, but I think it was worth mentioning my positive experiences so far in case someone is on the fence about purchasing. ... show more

  • Food for though, Good printer needs a little time to figure out
Color: Black
I’m not one to write reviews but I thought I would drop some thoughts about my first 3d printer. I did a ton of research before buying this printer. Pro’s I liked that it had a ton of what other printers didn’t the belts to sync the z axels and belt tensioners on the x and y, the sting sensor for the auto-leveling, touch screen, and the solid vertical frame. There is a lot to like here. And when comparing to others in the price range it was a good deal. Suxs that two weeks after I bought it goes on lighting deals for 60 dollars off. O well. Con’s but not deal breakers. Auto leveling gets you close, but I have found I need to use the baby step to fine-tune after every power-up. The unit sounds like it is going to blow up for the first 2 to 3 mins when you power it on. This may lead to problems in the future. But it does run quietly after that and remains quite tell the next time you power it up. The glass bed is not leveled and needs adjusting, haven’t had the bravery to take it apart to see if this can be done yet. I think this would help with things sticking better to the glass bed. Here are the differences I seen on the z axis 3.6 3.8 3.9 2.8 3.1 3.3 2.5 2.7 2.7 As you can see the top right is much higher than the bottom left of the build surface. Now all that said after messing with the unit and starting and stopping builds, and thusly throwing failed starts away. I think I got it working pretty well. And I have made several things now that have come out nicely. So, all in all, I am happy just know that you’ll have to work at it a bit if you what to use the whole plate. Also, I would suggest getting a test layer over the base plate this helped me check the auto level and tweak the z offset. I would give this a 3.75, due to the hours of start and stopping prints. May revise once I have more time in on it. ... show more

  • Talk about BANG for your buck!!!
Color: Black
The media could not be loaded. Incredible product!!! I have been 3D printing for almost a decade, but have never owned one personally until now. Despite what anyone may tell you, if this is your first time with 3D printing (by that I mean actually setting/ loading up and printing on your own 3D printer and not just digitally designing and modeling) it's going to take you a few days or even weeks to get a good grip on it (but from what I can tell from friends with their own that is unavoidable no matter how intuitive and beginner friendly the printer is or may be). It's sooooo easy to set up, having only 2 main pieces and some screws. The quality is insane, and you can really see that in the test print (which I will admit for me had a lot of trouble with adhesion, but has never ever had that problem again since). I mean I have seen much more expensive and widely recommended printers get nowhere close to this level of detail. Now I love love love this printer, however... My two reservations, lie in the directions. For one thing, they are very unclear and seem to leave gaps in the steps that they assume you'll just know, for another, they neglect to tell you how to do simple maintenance things, like clean the nozzle, the bed etc. And it's pretty annoying that they give you an SD card without giving you any way to put things on or off it, like say i don't know the Cura profile it wants you to download for it. But these are really just minor inconveniences. It's just frustrating seeing as it would be so easy for MINGDA to fix. Five star product, if your interested and invested enough to read this and the other reviews, then you should absolutely buy it! ... show more

  • High-quality prints right out of the box, very easy to set up and use
Color: Black
After wrestling with a cantankerous Ender 3 for a couple of years, I bought a Mingda Magician X. The experience has been great. The Magician X came in two components which bolted together quickly. The auto-leveling worked perfectly the first time and the machine has been churning out very good prints for over two months, without needing to be leveled again. If the time is taken to get slicer settings adjusted properly, the X can turn out very high quality prints. The picture I uploaded with this review was made a week after I got the printer. The model was not designed to be printed so small - but the results were good. The print was made in three parts that altogether took under 20 hours As a hobbyist who would rather make prints instead of fighting with a printer that demands constant adjustment, I find this "beginner" printer far more pleasant to use than most Ender 3/clones without auto-bed leveling. A few cautions: There isn't much of a Mingda community online, compared to the large online user bases of Creality and other brands. If you have a problem, answers can be hard to find. Also, there are no drop-in replacement parts for many of the components, so you'll have to stick with original Mingda parts for assemblies such as the extruder. Replacement parts are sometimes in short supply. This is not a printer that invites or allows much in the way of modification. ... show more

  • Very easy to use 3D printer!! Absolutely perfect for beginners and experienced hobbyists alike!!
Color: Black
Having used a couple of 3D printers, there are a few things about the Mingda Magician X that stand out to me. The first is the media port options. The printers I've used in the past had a microSD slot and a micro USB port. The Magician has a standard SD card slot, which is better so I don't have to keep transferring my microSD card to and from the adapter; a standard USB port, which means I can print from a USB drive; and a USB-C port, so I can connect to my PC and print directly. These three options provide much more flexibility than I've had before. Secondly, I absolutely love the direct drive extruder. Other printers have the extruder mounted elsewhere on the X-gantry and then run through a plastic tube to the extruder. This can cause all kinds of issues if the tube isn't secured properly, or is bad quality, etc. With a direct drive extruder, the filament goes right from the reel into the extruder. It is also much, much easier to load. Third, the dual Z drive is great! many other printers have a single Z drive screw, so the entire X-gantry is raised and lowered from one side. This can cause issues with sagging and backlash, which degrade print quality. Having two Z drive screws helps with better, more accurate prints, as well as less adhesion issues. The lack of a floating print bed means that it stays level. Plus, there is automatic bed leveling built-in. Finally, this printer just prints well. The heated bed certainly is great for adhesion, and all the motors are smooth with almost no jerking. Prints come out looking good and it also prints quick. I know that speed settings are handled by print codes, but this printer just seems to print quicker than others. The color touchscreen is easy to use, and the firmware offers simple and intuitive functions. All in all, this printer is a joy to use!! ... show more

The Magician X 3D printer is a wonderful, easy to setup and use. Just put the top on, 2 bolts at the bottom, 2 on each side. Then plug in 3 plugs and bam, your ready to start printing!! Do not let the price scare you away, I’ve already got 40 + hours on my printer continuous, and still rocking! If I don’t come back and give an update, take this one as, Don’t wait, go buy it! Let’s talk about print quality shall we!! Prints are beautiful! I use Cura as my slicer, and the Mingda Magician X, was easy to add another printer! Make sure you go through and use the auto bed leveller feature, which works great. The filament feed, is so smooth, and much easier than any Ender. Now why I purchased, I’ve been using Enders for a while, and they have been just having all kinds of issues, I even got some S1’s with the same issues. So far with the Magician X, none of those has even started. Most people will say that most issues are the end user, and I would agree, but I do know how to use, build and repair 3D printers. So do not sleep on this 3D printer! You will love it!!! ... show more

  • Easy Set up, great quality printer
Color: Black
The media could not be loaded. This is the second 3d printer I have bought after nearly a decade and I am glad I made this purchase. I am in awe of the features that this printer has that I never had before. Pros: It came well packaged and was really quick to assemble, the included instructions were simple enough to follow. The heated bead is great, I have not had any issues with the first layer of my print adhering to the printing platform. It is a huge plus that I do not have to use the sticky glue from my older printer. The auto-level feature is probably my favorite because it was such a pain to manually level the old printer using a wrench and having to check the level with a piece of paper on corners. It was such a cumbersome process that is automated to about 3 minutes or so. The other huge headache this printer saves is the resume printing feature after the spool runs out, the plastic snaps in/before the feeder or energy loss/someone turns off the switch on the wall the machine is connected to. So far, I have managed to save an entire print when the plastic snapped before the feeder (I was using older filament I've had around for a while) and also when I ran out of spool before the print was completed. I am glad I didn't lose hours on the print like I have in the past. Finally, I am super surprised how quiet this machine actually is, I have it printing overnight and have had no trouble sleeping through the prints. Potential cons: The only thing I am concerned about is the tension belts giving me trouble eventually, but so far I have not had any issues with 10+ large prints. During the auto-level feature the print bed actually warms up. I understand this helps if you are going to get into a print right away but between prints this might be time consuming if you just want to double check for a sanity check. Overall great printer and I am highly satisfied. ... show more

  • Absolutely a great printer but as a beginner I was left wanting
Color: Black
I bought this printer based on the great reviews from 3d printing veterans but the documentation was severely lacking for newbs such as myself who bought this as their first 3d printer without any previous experience. Let me explain... something as simple as changing filament is not in the manual. There is a very brief section that tells you where to load filament and which button to push but nothing about what to do if you want to change colors or the proper care of the nozzle after you finish printing. I was surprised about how the filament sticks to the glass... nothing in the manual prepares you for getting your project off the glass. I was also confused by file types and had no idea why my .stl files were not loading on the menu. Sure, I figured all of this out but it took some searching as there isn't a ton of information about this specific printer on the internet. So while the print quality and ease of set-up are probably worth 5 stars, I decided to take one star away for the weak owners manual. If you want to position your product for entry hobbyists, please build your manual (or website) to support people like me who have never done this before. ... show more
