I’m a long time fan of Shure products, recently bought the Aonic 50 wireless head phones, great sound quality and very comfortable for long term listening when playing drums, etc. a little heavy, but still doable. I subsequently bought a pair of Shure Aoinic 40 wireless headphones, thinking they’d be slightly lighter, they are, great sound quality…..BUT….. The upper, over the top of the head padding, is terrible, very hard, and painful…what happened Shure ? why did they go cheap on this padding. I stopped using them within 10 minutes compared to my Aoinic 50’s which I can wear for at least an hour plus.. The Aonic 40’s are boxed up and on there way back to Amazon, not worth the pain or the cost. ... show more

Very durable set of headphones. I don't use the app or any of its features (which I gather is a big selling point for some people) but I've not seen a need to. Not sure if its the headphones or my system, but periodically I do get blasted by a millisecond of audio at incredible volume. This is an irritating issue but after trying several other noise-cancelling over-ear bluetooth headphones, I've been the most happy with these. ... show more

Top of headband is not very soft and rests against my head. Not as comfortable as other headsets I have had. I also wish I could get a real sense of how well the mics work. When I test them on Zoom it sounds ds tinny and distant to me, but everyone I've asked has said they sound OK.

I've been using these for about a month now and it seemed like a good time to review these excellent cans. I'm not a professional reviewer or an audiophile by I love music and listen at home, in the office, in the car, and at the gym. On top of music I've been doing virtual meetings and listening to more podcasts than every before. The TLDR version of this review is that these headphones are 4.5 out of 5 stars. They are the best over the ear headphones I have used at or below this price level. I unfortunately have not used anything more expensive than these but have used others at the same price point. The sound is really what does it for me. These headphones over full, rich, rangy sound through various volumes with a variety of different sources and styles. I'm sure there are headphones that offer more range than these, be these ones were the best for me. Battery life is very good and so is the Shure app that includes a full EQ with presets as well as the ability to turn on and off the noise cancelation and "environment mode". The headphones are comfortable to wear, even over long periods of time. My only cons are they aren't as comfortable as some others I have used and the while they fold up nicely they do so in a somewhat unintuitive way. So much so that there is a picture on the case and on a paper that came with the headphones showing you how they should be folded and put in the case. Speaking of the case, it is a nice. No better or worse than most others at this price point. It does seem sturdy and I think it will protect the headphones quite well. Overall I'm happy I got them and they are my go to out of the various pairs that I use for all the different types of media that I use which is very nice. I still prefer an ear model while jogging and working out as these and other cans just don't have the same stability. If you are on the fence I say give them a try :) ... show more

The headphones a very comfortable and sound very good, very pleased. The problem is that no audio cable was included that is referred to in the included literature. I have contacted Sure with no success. Still waiting!

UPDATE,,,I had to return. The swivle part that connects handband to earphones pulled my hair constantly! No hair? No problem. Lol. I loved the quality but i like like havingchair! I'm not a tech gal so I can't get all wordy with tech lingo, all I know is I was impressed with everything from packaging presentation to the sound quality and comfort. These do not budge. I have Bose Noise cancelation wireless headphones as well that are shared with others in the house.. I cannot wear them without them falling off in off my head. These have a sweet design and and would wear these over the bose 10 out of 10 times. So glad I purchased. The case is very nice and sturdy. It even has a template imprinted on bottom to indicate how to fit them in the case properly. Tip. I place the head strap part in 1st. Then it's easy to figure out the rest. I love the hing hardware that maneuvers the ear pieces too. Won't stretch out. ... show more

After a few failed attempts at finding over-ear headphones that impress, including the Sennheiser HD420 BT’s… which sound terrible… I wanted to try the Aonic 40’s. I have trusted Shure with my headphone game for a while. I have the SE215’s and those have been some of my favorite headphones to date. I wanted something over-ear for traveling and school related activity. I’m glad I tried these. I wanted the AirPods Max but these blow those out of the water. Noise cancellation is spot on. Transparency mode is instant. Feels like I’m not even wearing headphones. Shure knocked these things out of the park comfort wise as well. Ear cups are wide enough to not crush my ears, they are very flexible as well. As for sound quality… I’m a HiFi enthusiast. By no means are these the end all be all, but the bass response is punchy and can be sustained well. The high end is crystal clear and sparkly. Just the way I like it. The Shure Play App accompanies these well, it allowed me to EQ them to to tailor perfectly to my taste. Though it didn’t take much. Volume — the max volume is what it should be. I would like a bit more volume but these are way more than enough and I probably shouldn’t be listening as loud as I do anyway. I’m proud to be wearing and using the Shure brand as I have for so many years. I’ve trusted them with my business and my livelihood, and they still deliver on the account of personal devices.
