I've worn this type of device as a night guard for 25 years when I lost two expensive dental night guards (each when moving). At first, this type was really hard to mold properly, but I got the hang of it after needing to buy more to do it right, especially the right time in the hot water and right amount of pressure when pressing around my teeth. (I used to press too hard, thus making the guard way too thin.) I have a normal-sized female mouth, so I was glad this one worked perfectly because it APPEARS too small. I ordered 2 more to have on hand, even though my previous one lasted 7 years (no kidding!), and I ruined it by accidentally turning on the heat-drying on my dishwasher where I clean my night guard every week. ... show more

I have a 12 year old son who has braces on both upper and lower teeth. I bought the adult size mouthguard only for his upper teeth and it works great. (My son's braces don't have any complicated brackets/springs.) Just make sure you read the direction carefully. There is a specific instruction for the person who wears braces. (Place mouthguard in water for 10 seconds, not 12 seconds, if you wear braces.-- I think if the mouthguard is too warm and soft, it may grab braces too deep that you may not be able to remove the mouthguard when it cools down in your mouth.) My son tried to make the mouthguard fit on hiim over 7 times to make sure he feels comfortable with it. He said it feels hard, thick and tight first, but it will fit eventually as you keep trying (pressing and sucking.) He did not force to make it fit in case his braces get caught by the softened plastic. Just be patient until it forms comfortably. I noticed many people complained about the product being melted or deformed. I think those people might have placed the mouthguard in the hot water too long or they might not have removed the water from the heat. Do not place the mouthguard in a boiling water. The instruction specifically tells you to "remove water from heat" before you place the mouthguard in the water. My son said he can now play basketball and football without worrying about his braces being damaged or his lips get cut. He seems to like it a lot. He can talk (although he sounds mumbling) and can breathe fine with it. My son can customize the shape of his mouthguard again and again every time he gets his braces adjusted at the orthodontics (about every 2 months.) which would save me a lot of money too. By the way, the package says, "Adult/Age 11+", in case you are wondering which size you should choose for your child. If the product is too big, you can always trim down with a pair of scissors. For my 12 year old son (about 5'5"), this adult size was perfect. ... show more

We did the hot water, bite, cold water. Eh ,it'll work for a basic mouthguard. Can get for under for dollrs at wallmurt same thing. We will look for something better in future.

i just received this, three of them actually, and remembered what i had learned the medium-hard way: shock doctor is shockingly ineffective. using their method and fitting the guards isn't easy. i know i am doing it correctly, the simple point here is that the whole piece itself is less than potato chip thin. once softened by hot water, the upper side begins to melt into the rest of the guard, and by the time you have pulled it into position to fit, you have to start over. and over. and over. overall, it stays in one piece and can be reheated and refitted. sort of. the material, though malleable, is so thin and week that they simply will not hold up to the shape you desire, and it is instantly clear that they are not going to provide much if any real protection. i have used mouth guards for decades, from soccer to judo, and can tell you that these just don't measure up in size, weight, durability or any way really to even the cheapest, dual or triple density, guards you would find at a discount super store for $3 or less. and at $10 each, these are sure to disappoint. at maybe $2000 per lost or cracked tooth, and i am being quite generous in that guestimation, that is not the hard way you want to find out. seriously, and i am completely serious, a stick of gum, fresh enough to bend without breaking, will provide the same if not better protection for what, 10 cents. and i am not exaggerating. i urge you to not find this out for yourself. these are the 5th through 8th i have purchased, but never again. i am keeping the packaging to remind me next time i order mouth guards. do not risk it, either on yourself nor on your kids. life is too short, and better ones at less cost are out there. ... show more
