To start. This will be long. I’m an amateur cook. Cook at home, always bought cheap knives for the kitchen. $20 gets you a 10 knife set with block. Recently wanted to upgrade my kitchen. Got tired up knives dulling really fast and having to sharpen often plus they look cheap cuz they are. I did some research. Google much? These knives don’t show up on any of the Best Of lists that I could find so being transparent here. HOWEVER. These are advertised as being Japanese made German-style knives with German steel. These are absolutely aesthetically in my opinion the best I’ve seen. All the Best Of German knives have the 3 rivet look. I love that these have the all wood Pakkawood look (don’t care for the handles with rivets look). All the other German knives I saw on reviews I just thought they looked like something you see and think Wal-mart. I’m sure they aren’t but they don’t look high end. Look at a wusthof. Lots of praise but regular black square handle with rivets. Comfy to grip? I guess so. Sharp and can cut through a pineapple? I’m sure they can. These Shan Zu’s just look so much better in my opinion. This is lengthy for a reason and I hope you read to the end to see why. CUSTOMER SERVICE. And I want to show my appreciation to them for that. If you look at the pics (didn’t do more cuz others have already done that so you can see those) these knives come as advertised. They are super sharp out of the box. The handles are gorgeous. They are balanced (resting on finger between handle and blade they balance). Now here is the part that put me over the top. If you see my pictures you’ll notice the steak knife detachable block is Slightly crooked. Who cares right? It’s a knife block and no one looks. This company sent me a message to ask me how I liked my purchase. Pretty standard. I don’t normally respond to these but did this time. Told them I loved the knives but mentioned the crooked block thing as a nit pick. Did NOT expect to here back. They replied same day. Explained a training/knowledge issue with their quality control and would address immediately going forward. When is the last time you heard that? On top of that they adjusted my purchase price for the issue (minimal,don’t go crazy) and even asked if I would be willing to review another of their products! I’ve never reviewed anything in my life but figured why not. They sent me the Pro Series paring knife. Full disclosure not something I wanted or needed since I had one with the original knife set I said OK and got it today. Haven’t don’t any hardcore testing but I was cutting up some peppers and onions and decide to try it. It went through them like butter. As far as the originals, I put a lb and half of bacon on a cutting board and sliced through it all in one swipe, clean through. Hopefully you understand why I made such a lengthy review as I’d like to reward this company with more business as I’m very happy with their product ... show more

I've had these for awhile so I think its time to write a review. Pros- First of all these knives are super pretty and are nice to look at. The bottom piece for the steak knives its detachable so its great for taking off and bringing it to a barbecue. They're also nice and sharp even after a couple of months they still are. Only time will tell when they will need to be resharpened Cons- Because the handles are wood, one trip in the dishwasher will immediately take off some of the finish on the handles. I should've known this but to me, it isn't a big deal Overall excellent knife set, would recommend as a gift or decoration piece for your kitchen. ... show more

    • There “Nice” but feel flimsy

They seem a bit pliable. Aesthetically, they’re very pleasing as well as the different types of knives that come in the block, but I wouldn’t buy them again. The metal seems “cheap”. And the rod doesn’t sharpen knives, it’s a honing rod for straightening blades.

These are the most dangerous knives I've ever owned. They're very sharp. I got myself once slicing up stuff as I always have. I told my GF to be careful and even after I told her to respect the knives. She still got herself. Not once but twice. I've told people that come over and use my knives while we're cooking together to please be careful. And on multiple occasions have had people cut themselves. These knives are the real deal. The only thing missing from this set is a good pair of scissors. Other than that. They're really a good buy. Oh yeah I have recommended these knives to friends. They have also purchased and also have had people cut themselves. 🤣 ... show more

I like the design and the sturdiness of these. They are also really sharp out of the box but be prepared to sharpen them after 5-10 uses. So far, I like them....... we'll see how they hold up.

I just got these yesterday and am impressed with the quality. They are very sharp and make cutting and chopping very easy. They feel good in the hand and have a good thickness in the blade making them feel sturdy. All the blades are forged, even the steak knives - no cheap stamped out steel. Compared to some of my expensive quality knives, the only thing these are lacking is in some finishing. There are some edges that stick out or are too sharp, like in the end of the handle and where the tang comes thru the handle. But for the price, you won’t be disappointed!
