  • My husband is very happy with his new glasses!
Color: Henna Brown Size: Medium
My husband lost a pair of sunglasses identical to this pair. He was very glad to be able to replace them. Great driving glasses!

  • Simply The Best
Color: Henna Brown Size: Medium
Im my profession as an airline pilot, I have purchased numerous pairs of sunglasses in my 25 years in the air, and these are simply the best I have purchased. I'm sure glass technology has changed a bit, but for the money, these are far superior to glasses I've paid over $400 for. First, they are not polarized due to the polarization of the flight deck windows and displays in the flight deck. As you know, if you wear polarized glasses and look thorugh a polarized windshield, you get the "oily" smear of colors. Worse yet, if you wear polarized glasses in the flight deck, and rotate your head to the right or left, the polarization of both the glasses and the displays will cause them to black out at extreme angles. Obviously not a good scenario. If, on the other hand, you need the polarization for water activities, snow skiing, etc, then I would most definitely purchase the polarized version. Next, these glasses seem to have x-ray capabilities in hazy, smoggy, overcast sky conditions. Also, when looking for other airplane traffic at altitude, these glasses allow me to be the first of the 3 pilots to actually spot the other airplane the controller has pointed out. This is especially helpful as most of my flying is done in Europe, which is notorious for hazy sky conditions. Lastly, they come with a hard sided case which protects your purchase and also fits handily in the flight bag. Overall, a great pair of glasses at a good price. Yes, you can pay more, and I have. But I'm not sure you can get a technically better pair of sunglasses. ... show more

  • Great sunglasses for driving
Color: Henna Brown Size: Medium
They are light and comfortable to wear even after 7+ hours behind the wheel. I’m not a pilot but have similar needs for driving my car. I don’t want sunglasses that hamper my driving or distract from it: enter the Serengeti Aviators. They have the features I want and skip the ones I don’t. Large lenses cover a greater field of view, shading more of the bright light. Gradient lenses make the instrument panel and other controls easier to read while keeping shaded eyes to the road. (See photo.) With non-gradients, it often took several seconds or a lifting of the glasses. The heads-up display on my car is almost invisible with polarized lenses, but not so with non-polarized lenses. I always wear these Serengetis outside unless I’ll be at the beach or on a boat; you need polarized lenses in those cases. Dark lenses are a problem with the patches of low-level cumulus clouds in south Florida. The road goes from bright sunshine to gray overcast with enough frequency that you can move the glasses several times a minute for better visibility. Light-tinted lenses remove this distraction. The lenses are lightly photochromic. (See photo.) Helpful outside and not a problem when you get back in the car with the minutes it takes to lighten. Photochromic lenses darken under UV radiation which is blocked by the windshield. The feature is unnecessary for driving purposes. The only nit I have is that one of the screws came out of an endpiece – it draws the rim together to hold the lens. Easily fixed with a thin wire, just wasn’t in my expectations for this manufacturer. My rating dropped a quarter-star. Meh. I like these sunglasses and will continue to purchase them. I’m on my second pair. ... show more

  • Still the Best
Color: Henna Brown Size: Medium
I purchased my first pair of Serengeti Aviator Drivers >30 years ago. Since that time, I’ve experimented with other name-brand glasses (Oakley, Xezo, etc…), as well as a number of highly-touted newcomers (always the next greatest thing!) After all my tries, I alway come back to the tried and true Driver lenses for what I believe to be the best road presentation available. I won’t “brand” myself as a Serengeti expert; however, I would like to cover what I believe to be a few misconceptions and/or errors in other reviews. These are very high-quality GLASS lenses – if you’re prone to drop your glasses on pavement, these likely aren’t the sunglasses for you. [I’ve read some reviews that show 1 or 2 stars because their glass lenses broke when they hit the pavement – really?!] Also, there’s the debate about polarized vs. non-polarized. Please note that Driver non-polarized lenses allow 8% more light through when lightened, and 2% less light when darkened. In other words, Driver non-polarized are brighter on dark days, and darker on bright days – that’s the reason I choose non-polarized in my main glasses. [“PHD Polarized” are closer in performance; however, they’re also higher-priced, and not available in the Medium Aviators... ] “Gradient” simply means the lens is darker at the top – it doesn’t mean the lens darkens on bright days – that’s “Photochromic” As far as “Medium Aviator Drivers” (6826), they are photochromic, gradient, non-polarized lenses Possibly a bit confusing; however, the website does a great job of covering all their products, including technical specs. One other point to discuss is how the glasses have changed over the years – some say they’ve “cheapened”. I disagree. Yes, they lighter, but that’s mainly due to improvements in the lenses, and the lightness (at least to me), makes them more comfortable on longer trips. Quick summary is these are very high-quality lenses, in a very atrtractive frame. They come with a super-quality case and cleaning cloth, and are the result of many years’ dvelopments and improvements – highly recommended. ... show more
