This one is omnidirectional, so, unless you are in a "soundproof" studio, you will want to use it as a lapel mic to avoid the "tin coffin" effect. The sound quality and frequency range (I'm a baritone podcaster) are good for a 1/8" electret microphone. Was truly plug and play on my Windows 11 machines (even when using a USB-C female to USB-A male adapter on one older PC) and Samsung Galaxy phones. I really wanted to like the XS Lav USB-C—own the Sennheiser MKE 400 Shotgun mic and Sennheiser HD650 headphones and they're great—but this product doesn't work for me. Build quality is excellent for the price point—love the 2 meter cable length—but output signal is feeble. I plugged into the USB-C ports of my iMac Pro and MacBook Pro and, with input level maxed out in the Sound panel (and headphones!), I could barely detect sound in voiceover recordings. I tried it in GarageBand, TwistedWave and Final Cut Pro, same deal—weak with gain cranked. Either this mic is defective or, maybe, the weak signal is due to weirdness in Apple's USB-C implementation (mic is reported to work on PCs). Oddly, USB 2 mics like the Samson Go Mic and Blue Yeti have plenty of gain on my Mac. I couldn't test the XS Lav USB-C on my iPhone or iPad because the Lightening to USB-C adapters I tried didn't work. This sick puppy returned to Amazon. On a positive note, I bought the Sennheiser XS Lav Mobile variant with 3.5 TRRS connecter: works great—full natural sound—on my Macs and has a strong signal. With TRRS to TRS adapter, works on my Canon DSLR and Tascam DR-60 MK II audio recorder. Also works great on my iPhone albeit requires an Apple Lightning headphone adapter plus y-cable (to plug in headphones and mic). I'd write a review for it but Amazon has both mics under the same product listing and only allows one review. The TRRS XS Lav Mobile is a 5-star product. Bottom line is, if you're a Mac user, don't buy the XS Lav USB-C. Buy the XS Lav Mobile (TRRS) instead. ... show more

Mainly got this mic to communicate while on my PC with friends, in meetings, or in games. Also wanted something I could use as a simple lav mic with a camera if needed. Works great and sounds great, doesn't pick up too much background noise. IMPORTANT: Know what port you will be plugging it into to, this is a TRRS connector. -If you're using this on PC, and plugging directly into a Microphone (pink colored) 3.5mm jack, you will need a TRRS to TRS adapter. -If you're using it on a Mac, Smartphone, or laptop with a single 3.5mm it should work just fine without an adapter. ... show more

As a mic to use for video meetings like Teams or Duo or Zoom, this works well. For the price, it's a good mic for simple audio. Having one that's wireless instead of USB C would, of course, be nicer and more convenient but the price really goes up for a good quality wireless lapel mic.
