🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The reviews for this Seiko field watch are largely positive, highlighting its durability, reliability, and aesthetic appeal. It's praised for being a great entry-level automatic watch that combines functionality with a simple yet attractive design. Despite its reasonable price, it impresses with features like good luminosity and water resistance, making it a solid value for money. However, some critics point out the lack of a sapphire crystal and a threaded crown, and there are mixed feelings about its size and the quality of the accompanying strap.

Pros

  • 👍 Rugged and durable design suitable for everyday wear without the anxiety of damaging an expensive watch
  • 🕒 Keeps time accurately, rivaling watches that are much more expensive
  • 🎨 Aesthetically pleasing with a simple, minimalistic design that catches the eye
  • 🌙 Good luminosity for night-time visibility
  • 💧 Water resistance up to 100m, making it suitable for most daily activities
  • 💰 Great value for the price, offering solid performance as an entry-level automatic watch

Cons

  • ⚖️ Some reviews mention it can feel too large or thick on the wrist, affecting comfort
  • 🏊‍♂️ Lack of a threaded crown means it's not suitable for diving despite its water resistance
  • 🔍 Does not feature a sapphire crystal, lowering its resistance against scratches
  • 🎨 The nylon strap and aluminum rings on some models are perceived as cheap-looking

Should I Buy It?

If you're in the market for an affordable, reliable automatic watch that balances functionality with a stylish design, this Seiko field watch might be an excellent choice. It's particularly suited for those new to automatic watches or looking for a durable everyday watch. However, if comfort due to size or a preference for sapphire crystal is a priority, you might want to consider other options.

  • Exceeded my expectations!!
I was extremely hesitant to purchase this watch. I've been on the hunt for the perfect field watch and this got me very close to what I was looking for. The only negative about the watch for me. Is that the lume is just "okay" for my standards. I prefer watches with tritium tubes because I'm a nighttime truck driver and those are just hard to find in this style of watch. But it looks very good and is very comfortable. The 39mm case fits my 7" wrist perfectly. The visibility of the dial is very good. Easy to read at all times besides total darkness. I was really worried that it wouldn't keep time very well being an automatic movement but I am pleasantly surprised it's only 1-2 seconds slow per day. THAT is crazy. The movement has all the features you'd want in a automatic watch. Auto-winding/hand-winding and hacking. It would have been nice to see a sapphire crystal but you are getting a great quality time piece for this price point. I would not hesitate to buy this watch if you are on the fence. ... show more

  • Would recommend for hard daily use Would recommend for hard daily use
Awesome daily watch. As an automotive technician and watch guy I wanted something that looked great, was automatic, and I wouldn’t be too upset about getting banged up. This checked all of those boxed. After a few months of daily hard wear it shows a single scratch on the crystal (which I can’t put against it) and no issues with the watch itself. Great value for money in my opinion. ... show more

  • 2 year review
2-Year Review I’ve worn this watch almost every day for nearly two years, and here’s my take: Design & Versatility: The watch face is simple, clean, and elegant. Swapping straps completely changes its look — a metal bracelet makes it dressier and works well with a suit, while a rubber strap is great if you’re active and want something more flexible. I’m not a big fan of the included NATO strap; with daily wear it tends to absorb sweat and eventually develops an odor. Readability & Lume: The dial itself looks great, but if you work nights it can be tough to read without some ambient light. The LumiBrite lume charges well in sunlight, but after a few hours in darkness it fades almost completely, which is something to keep in mind. Date/Day Feature: The day/date function works fine, but the day wheel switches between English and Spanish around midnight. For example, you’ll briefly see the Spanish day name when it transitions from Monday to Tuesday. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it can be a little annoying. Movement & Timekeeping: The movement is enjoyable — you can flip the watch over and see the rotor through the exhibition caseback, which is a nice touch. Over time, though, it drifted about 10 minutes per month for me. That’s within the normal range for this type of Seiko automatic, but still something you notice if you rely on precise timing. I'd recommend this watch. It's a great starter watch, and i personally like mine. ... show more

  • A wonderful mechanical watch at a crazy low price
This is my daily wear watch. The strap is kinda junky but the watch itself is so satisfyingly good for the price point. I put an olive green elastic band on it so I can slip it on easy. I’ve had several people stop me and compliment the watch which I’ve never had happen before wearing watches worth a lot more than a couple hundred dollars. I think people like the retro styling of the field watch. I do too. ... show more

  • Great YARD watch & "Gubmn't work" Great YARD watch & "Gubmn't work"
Good little watch, runs a bit slow [almost a minute a day] but I thought its face was bigger...no big deal--literally. The DAY/DATE settings are easily readjusted, and it seems impervious to accidental hand/face washing-with-water splashes. Very clear face on the watch as well! I like it for outdoor yard work especially because the nylon band, unlike leather, will not be damaged. Metal bands begin to gouge my arm a bit with abrupt movements such as trimming or edging, but this band remains amiable. Never thought I'd call a watch band "amiable"--but it is for me under 'terse' circumstances! If you need a "within-20-second-accuracy" watch...maybe not a fit for you? But as is: "Close enough for gubm'nt work." -Bill ... show more
