When I use the headphone jack in my pc for some reason it generates a lot of background noise in my headset. Nothing unexpected since this has been the case with the other drives I have bought in the past so I walked into this knowing that. It also makes a lot of noise whenever I use it. Depending on the data transfers it makes a lot of noise but nothing very uncomfortable. It is just a humming sound or a motor moving sound. Nothing super unusual for a hard drive. I bought this because it is cheap and has a lot of storage. I don't care about transfers speeds since this does have very low transfer speeds. Would not recommend this for gaming unless you are doing retro gaming than this should be fine in that case. Thanks! ... show more

I had an six year old Seagate backup drive that recently became unusable. That drive was the ST3000DM001 and was one of worst drives Seagate ever produced and even faced a class action lawsuit at some point. I must have had one of the good drives because I barely had any problems until a few accidental disconnections created some bad sectors on the drive to the point the drive speed slowed to a crawl just recently and of course those bad sectors were not repairable. So I thought it was time to get a new one. As soon as I installed this drive I noticed the difference in speed and overall access time on my system in an instant. It's only a 5400rpm H.D.D but it's being primarily used for storing files. So far so good. I was able to save the data off my old drive and make use of this one. I hope it will last for some years. I usually look to WD for hard drives but saw this one on sale and I thought why not, Seagate cant be all that bad still. The sale price was good and just in time for me to make the switch. ... show more

Good H-Drive, but I surely dislike that unique Idle sound. Price is a lot cheaper than its ultimate rival, aka WD. Probably the only HD you'll ever hear it from. Toshiba doesn't make that sound. Not even old Hitachi drives. And many others brand. Overall, the drives is running pretty good in my new PC atm. Been using it over 6 months now since Dec 2023 of x-mas. ... show more

This drive is not overly loud, but is by no means quiet. Personally I like the audio cue that the drive is doing something. This is also the first drive I've purchased that hasn't come with the needed sata cable. I have spares lying around so it didn't end up being a bid deal here, but it would be something to get along with this if you don't already have extras. Overall this seems to be a good buy, and hopefully will last a decent amount of time. ... show more
