  • Disappointed, but maybe my fault?
Size: Small
I love sea monkeys so much. I find them a very nostalgic part of childhood and wanted to get my kids hooked into them also. Mine came damaged but still usable and they did not hatch. Not a single one! I’ve never had that happen before. I’m not sure if it’s related to the time of year or just a bad batch? Nonetheless, I am disappointed. But rest assured, sea monkeys are awesome and if your batch takes off, they are so fun and simple to take care of. EDIT: Updating review from 4 to 5 stars - Happy to report that my sea monkeys hatched out of nowhere 2 weeks after adding the eggs! I didn’t do anything other than leave the water chilling in the same spot for two weeks. I almost considered dumping and trying again a few days prior to seeing some activity, so I’m very glad I didn’t lol. So far, we only have 3 tiny little guys, but they’re doing well. So if you think your eggs are a bust, just give it a little more time! It does say in the pamphlet that it can take up to 3 weeks for all eggs to hatch, but I didn’t expect that I wouldn’t have a single hatch until 2 weeks. Nonetheless, I am pleased! I’m thinking most people who reported no hatching just didn’t give it enough time or provide the best conditions. ... show more

only 2 sea monkeys came out of this (thankfully one boy and one girl) and altho they did have babies, all the babies disappeared shortly after being born and the female passed away as well leaving only one lonely daddy sea monkey who passed about a week later. it was more of an overall bummer and Rollercoaster if emotions than a learning experience or pets. I wiloyldnt buy these again ever, especially not for the expensive price. ... show more

  • Initial results are very promising!
Size: Small
No damage to contents. Packets #1 and #2 sealed and dry. I haven't opened #3 yet. I bought a small in-tank heater, add 12oz of regular spring (not mineral) water, and waited until it was heated to 78F. I added packet #1, and inserted a small aerator to mix in the contents. Over a 24hr period, I saw no early shrimp activity though I did see some eggs. After 24Hrs of adding packet #1, I added packet #2 and again aerated with the device I used earlier. After about 12hrs I checked and saw some activity! After 24 hrs, more activity! I once again aerated. I don't plan to aerate for a bit. I'll let them grow some. In addition to the in-tank heater, I have the tank sitting under some timed grow lights to stimulate algae growth. I had initially intended to wait for awhile, after adding the spring water, but before adding any packets, to have some algae already available, but then I wondered if adding the salt would cause them problems. I decided I would rather algae establish in the environment it will exist in. Also, I just got impatient! 😂 As it stands thus far, this product and seller have provided and fun and reliable product. All of the issues I have read elsewhere, were nowhere to be found here. If you are interested in growing pet, hybridized, brine shrimp, this is a great option, IMHO. I would strongly suggest you get a very small in-tank heater, if your ambient temps aren't going to be a steady mid-70s, and get a small plant grow light on a timer, either way. If you can get a healthy algae colony going, you can really cut back on explicit packet feeding, plus the living algae will be more nutritious. At that point, you'll mostly need to just stay on top of water re-fills. Regarding water, for the love-a-Mike, please don't use tap! Just get some bottled natural spring water from your local grocer, or, at worst, some distilled water. You're only adding a couple of ounces per re-fill so even a quart or liter would last for some time. So, all in all you're probably looking at the cost of this tank plus small heater and small plant grow light. And if you have a low to mid 70s stable ambient temperature, you could do without the heater. I will likely update in a week or two. UPDATE: I'd say a good 15 or so made it to young adulthood. I moved them to a prepared .5gallon tank, with heater and bubble stone. It had some algae and some previously transferred bit of water from this original tank. Now, about 10 days after move, only a couple have passed, and the rest have been doing nothing but swimming, eating and making bebes! A few unhatched eggs from the initial setup hatched upon transfer to the larger tank. They are now 1/4-1/3". And there are scads of those super small pin-points swimming around. I'll know in a week or two if the larger volume and existence of algae (plus the packet food) is enough to allow some to grow further. If I end up with "Loads O' Monkeys", i'll update with a photo. ... show more

  • Fun little gift idea.
Size: Small
Easy to setup and the "monkeys" grew up quickly, and got quite large... still going strong after 6 months.

  • Easy instructions but would add a couple of my own that go against the product directions
Size: Small
I had a fun idea with my niece to get us both sea monkey kits, so that we could grow these and study them and talk about them together. It was her first experience with sea monkeys (or brine shrimp). I recall having sea monkeys for long periods of time growing up and was actually really excited because I remember being fascinated by them and really surprised by how big they got. This one was for me. I ordered a nicer one for my niece. Everything worked out much better than I expected at the beginning (at the beginning is the key phrase here). Wait for what happens. This did not come in a box. It was actually just the little tank with its lid zip-tied down and the instructions and packages inside. I was somewhat disappointed in that. I followed the instructions by first preparing the water and adding packet one. No issues. At the allotted time, and I think I waited an extra day just to be on the safe side, I added only a very tiny amount of package 2 containing the eggs due to a warning from one of my family members who remembered doing this as a kid and that one full package of eggs produced far too many sea monkeys and so they died. I’m thankful that I listened, because even just a tiny portion of the eggs in the packet produced a LOT of sea monkeys. I can’t even imagine what it would’ve been like if I dumped the whole package into that small tank…. After this, you have to wait 5 to 7 days for feeding. I would probably recommend five days and I would not recommend using the actual spoon. The spoon doesn’t even have a little scoop in it so it’s kind of confusing on how much to use, but I think that you should basically use about as much to fit on the end of a toothpick at the beginning. My problem was that I miscalculated and put a little bit too much of the food in, which created a massive algae bloom and killed off my entire tank. This is not a product problem, it’s a user issue. I added too much food….I blame myself and that has nothing to do with the rating. I was sad. I have since ordered another package with the three pack set of the water preparation, eggs, and food, and I’m hoping to start over again with the same tank. You live and you learn.! ... show more

  • So cute and tiny!
Size: Small
So exciting!! We started the process 4 days ago and we have little sea monkeys swimming around. They’re getting easier to see now as they grow! They’re still tiny but growing. They’re so cute! Love bonding and teaching my kids above them as they grow.

  • Nostalgia and entertainment!
Size: Small
I got this for my office (pro tip: get a plant light that can be set on a timer so your little shrimps can have adequate light). Hatched sea monkeys without issue, but they didn’t breed and then just died. I purchased brine shrimp eggs separately here on Amazon with great results. I guess my review is for the tank and the algae food, which I continue to use when needed. ... show more

  • Scam
Size: Small
I wish I could give 0 stars but I can’t, so this gets 1. My brother ordered these same sea monkeys for my daughter and they never hatched after 2 months of waiting. I chalked it up to me not following the instructions correctly. I purchased these sea monkey’s myself as a birthday present for my niece and again, they still didn’t hatch. SCAM! ... show more
