  • Call quality is good, small audio sync issue
Size: Solo
Seems to work well enough and the call quality is pretty decent, as my friend called my while I was riding to test it and he said he couldn't really hear the wind and my voice was very clear to him. Biggest gripes are that the sound quality is pretty tinny and the 2 speakers were slightly out of sync, barely though but enough to be noticeable, as one side had a tiny lag behind the other. Also the controls can be difficult to press effectively. Overall for the price it's not all that bad for a starter communicator before trying a much more expensive model later. ... show more

  • Wish I would have ordered it sooner.
Size: Solo
First let me start this review by praising the customer support of the seller YIQIE. I had some difficulty installing the controller do to an upgrade with the metal clip that did not match the installation video I watched. I sent an email to the seller at night after hours, expecting a reply the next day. To my surprise I got a response with in an hour along with pictures showing how to install the new metal clip. Now on to the product review. First sound quality, is top notch even with an open face half helmet with no speaker cut outs. I had to super glue the speakers in place as as work around. This is not to reflect the product, it's just to demonstrate my helmet is not designed for speakers. The sound compared to my Uclear which I have installed in my full face helmet is far superior. Deeper bass overall richer sound at half the volume. This is not a complaint against the Uclear as I find it a great product. I just noticed I could hear the music or business meeting clearly and more importantly hear highway sounds using half the volume as I would with the Uclear, which in order to hear it at highway speed, would drown out highway sounds. But that could be more to do with the uclear full face helmet install vs half helmet SCS ETC S-9 install. The microphone wow. Using the boom mic, (again open face half helmet) I joined a Zoom business meeting and everyone in attendance was in disbelief that I was on a motorcycle, until I turned on the cell phone cam to prove it. Listening to the recording I am very impressed, no clipping no static or wind noise. I gave it two stars for installation not because of the issue with the metal clip and not because its hard to install. I gave it two stars for the following design reasons. Battery Life, riding for several hours with no recharge leaving it on when off the bike at various stops and had no problem. But I only used it one day and looks like it will be the last day of the season. :( 1. Speakers are hard wired to the base. 2. The controller is separate from the base which connects speakers, microphone, and even external source. Having speakers, microphone, etc... connected to a separate piece and especially the speakers being hard wired in to me is just a weird design and prone to un necessary failure. For instance I'm sure the first thing to go is going to be the speakers either do to normal wear and tear or because of the wire breaking do to use or abuse. This is the most common failure of any wired speakers, the wire gets ripped out. If that happens then you will have to replace the device instead of just the speakers. Second the controller connecting to another device just means more wear and tear and as the connectors will get worn out. Over all for under under $80 dollars top notch product great customer support from seller. Hopefully it will hold up next season. ... show more

  • Good sound quality and volume but exceedingly poor control design.
Size: Solo
The Good: iced a bit above rock bottom (really cheap) the overall sound and communications properties of this unit are significantly better. Even at 70 mph, the music is quite recognizable because the volume can be turned up to an almost painful level. Phone not as good at such speeds but good enough to answer and tell the person at the other end to wait a few seconds while you slow or pull over to continue the call. Several cheaper units I have used over the years (the last two in the same helmet) were basically unintelligible over 50-60mph. Call clarity is also great. You get both a "boom" type microphone and a simple "wired" Velcro-secured mic about the size of a nickel. Tried both and the latter was vastly superior at cutting noise and good intelligibility (called and left myself voicemails with both mics to evaluate). Easy to install (but, I have done this a number of times!). Battery life is phenomenal! have played music through the unit for a full sunup to sundown (about 12 hours) without a charge. Also, you don't have to unplug anything to charge the unit (most other inexpensive units I have used force you to unplug their headphone/mic connection and plug the charging cord into the headphone/mic jack to charge). Beware that there is no included charger but you do get a USB cable that you can plug into an automotive USB power adapter, a computer, or a USB battery bank. Seems to fully charge in about an hour. The Bad: What seems to be a volume control/function selector knob that is common to most other similar units is a totally bogus decorative rubber item. The only "functionality" about it is the mode button in the center of the "knob". The unit has a pair of very stiff buttons on top of the unit to control volume and to advance/replay your music playlist. Unfortunately, you have to press them "down" (parallel with the surface of the helmet to which the unit mounds) and it is nearly impossible to operate the buttons without either pulling the unit from the helmet (if you use the provided tape) or it slides out of the helmet if you use the provided sprint-bail mounting device. The solution is to "pinch" the unit between your thumb (on bottom) and index finger (to operate the appropriate button on top)...which leads to another problem. In doing so, your thumb naturally falls on the only button on the "bottom" of the unit which initiates a "fake" SIRI message for operating your iPhone. I say "fake" because in my case, you get a "SIRI" announcement whether or not you are connected to the unit with your phone...even if it's NOT an iPhone (of which my phone is NOT). You get the SIRI message even if NOTHING is connected to the device. Almost impossible to turn off or on or operate ANY useful buttons (that you would normally need to operate while riding) while wearing even the thinnest of gloves. Easy to get around in the summer with fingerless gloves if you are so inclined but when cold weather sets in...well.... If it weren't for the fact this unit has good loud sound and excellent battery life, I would hesitate to recommend it. I have been using it every day for about a month and it's the controls that are frustrating and a potential deal-breaker for most (the bogus "volume knob" doesn't help things, either. I haven't tried intercom to other riders or a passenger with this unit nor have I tried plugging in the charging cable and simultaneously operating while riding. I can't give it more than three stars for overall rating because of the frustrating controls. ... show more
