Description

Start the spring season off right with Scotts Turf Builder Halts Crabgrass Preventer with Lawn Food. This pre-emergent weed killer plus fertilizer stops crabgrass before it invades and protects all season long. It also prevents other listed grassy and broadleaf weeds, including barnyard grass, foxtail, poa annua, chickweed, and oxalis. The added fertilizer feeds for a fast green- up after winter and helps build strong, deep grass roots. It's a great pre- emergent crabgrass killer for lawns that homeowners can use during their yard maintenance. Apply Scotts Turf Builder Halts Crabgrass Preventer with Lawn Food in early spring (prior to 3rd or 4th mowing) when your lawn is dry and before temperatures are regularly in the 80s. For best results, the lawn should receive ¼ to ½ inch of water from rainfall or watering within 2-3 days after application. We recommend using a Scotts fertilizer spreader to apply this product. For Scotts broadcast/rotary spreaders, use a setting of 3. For Scotts drop spreaders, use a setting of 6. Do NOT apply to Dichondra and Bentgrass. This pre-emergent control product controls crabgrass in its early stages of growth. It does not control mature crabgrass and other existing weeds. This bundle includes two 5,000 sq. ft. bags of Scotts® Turf Builder® Halts® Crabgrass Preventer with Lawn Food, covering a total of 10,000 sq. ft.

This works very well. I use this and the fall lawn treatment and some weed killer that attaches to a garden hose for periodic lawn treatment. For less than $100.00 per year my lawn (approx. 1/5 acre) is virtually weed free and nice and green. People compliment my lawn. I would suggest using this with the Scotts spreader so you will know the precise setting to use. Let me also mention: I use dishwashing gloves when putting this in the spreader, to break up clumps, etc. You should not have this touch your skin. Also, this will not prevent crabgrass or other weeds all season long. The effect lasts approximately 3 months. I usually apply it right after St. Patrick's Day, or a week later. That is what I understand to be optimal. Later in the season I use weed killer in a container that attaches to a hose for application. That will kill the weeds after this has worn off. ... show more

i've been using scott product for decades. applying crab grass preventer is a tricky deal. if you have a little warm spell and then put this down its most likely too late. crabgrass likes to start growing early. i always had crabgrass in one area of the yard due to previous owners and neighbors who don't treat their lawns so i fight crabgrass in this area. plus this area gets a lot of sun and crabgrass loves that. if i get this donw early enough it helps so much with the control of the crabgrass. once it gets a hold in the yard you must use killer. i use the ortho liquid in the dry days of summer and scotts product work very well when used correctly. as for lawn burning that some reviewers say that it burned/killed the grass, that is a application problem way too much. the directions for the settings are usually for scotts brand spreaders so if you have a non scotts spreader you can run into under or over applications. same for other brand fertilizers. they may give general settings on the bag but without know what the spreaders the spread rate is based on your taking a chance at too little of worst, too much fertilizer (burned lawn). getting the application rate is the key to not damaging your lawn and getting it to do its job. the earlier you put the preventer down the better the chance to prevent crabgrass. once there is a warm spell and you had crabgrass the last summer it most likely too late so be ready to use crabgrass killer as soon as you start seeing them. i find the hose end spray killers are best for this and make sure its not going to rain or use your sprinkler system for a couple days. turn it off and let the liquid do its job too. ... show more
