With 361 spikes on the 26" version and 402 spikes on the 29" it bites firmly into icy roads. The tungsten carbide core of each spike is clad in weigh- saving aluminum. The scale stops at 695 g, and that yet the tire remains agile and sporty. In order to ensure that spikes are permanently fixed, tires should be run in for about 25 miles (40km) on asphalt, while avoiding any fast acceleration or heavy braking.

  • Winter safe
Size: 27.5 x 2.25
Not much need for studded tires in Vermont this year, we are 21 inches behind normal snowfall.

  • Does the job
Size: 27.5 x 2.25
I don't do a lot of riding in the winter but this tire seems to do the job on my e-bike. Gets a little sketchy with more that 3 or 4 inches of snow or on solid ice, but then no tire is going to do very well under those conditions. You will want to lower your seat some so you can "dog paddle" when you have to. (My tires are 27x2.25 so they're a little narrow for this sort of thing and catch the ruts.) ... show more

  • Great winter commuter tire
I commute all winter in MN and I love these tires. There is no one perfect tire for all conditions but these tick a lot of winter boxes. I have a high wattage Surly Ogre ebike to make the all year commute doable (I'm old and heavy and hate car payments) and I've tried a bunch of winter tires and these win, hands down. I have a hilly, curvy, sketchy, icy commute and I've fallen a couple times on other studded tires so I'm obsessed with safety. These have enough volume to be cushy and have bunches of traction but still roll well. They sound like popping corn on bare pavement but who cares when the goal is staying upright. The studs are holding up well. I replace the center studs each year. Street riding hasn't knocked any studs out. When the roads are clear, they obviously aren't as good as a nice street tire, corner handling and noise (noise can be handy to alert pedestrians), but when it dumps and freezes out, it's always worth it having them on. I've had very expensive studded fat tires (Dillingers) on other bikes and the safety factor on these is so much higher. The aggressive lugs are way better at getting the studs down to payment and not floating the studs up like fat tires love to even in light slop. I live where they like to not plow the roads, I'm talking they just skip that section of town on purpose, and the confidence with these tires is high. Great on glare ice. If you are one of the "that guy is crazy" commuters doing tough winter commuting, these come highly recommended. ... show more

  • Good grip, definitely adds resistance.
Went out in the woods after a sleet/snow storm with a hard freeze. Great grip. they broke through a little where the trail wasn’t already compacted by walkers.

  • Ice and snow packed traction is amazing!
I rarely write reviews but after using these tires on the snow and ice I had to let everyone know that these are worth it and have amazing traction on the snow and ice. They do struggle in unpacked snow but other than that these babies never slid out on me once! I did have to purchase a tube as they were not able to work properly tubeless but the tube was easy to install and they work just as they are supposed to! ... show more

  • 💯
Made it the whole winter in northern Michigan riding the bike at least 10 to 15 miles a day in the snow and ice without having to pump the tires up or change the tube

  • More seat time in the winter.
Works best on solid ice or very hard pack snow. In soft snow one inch or more the studs tend to not hold as well and tire will not be planted as well. Amazing on ice, just like riding on pavement. I rode on a frozen lake it was great unless I made more of an sharp turn, then the studs would lose grip. Gentle turns on ice best. ... show more

  • Does the job!
Size: 26 x 2.10
I had used another tire but this one is better. Works well on hard pack snow and grips well enough on ice. I can ride year around in Colorado.
