Description

A motorcycle’s electrical system can be daunting to even the most adept home mechanic. And yet, the more complex these systems become—and the more important to a motorcycle’s function—the more useful, even critical, it will be to know something about them. That’s where this book comes in with a user- friendly guide to understanding, diagnosing, and fixing the electrical systems and components that make a bike run . . . or falter.Veteran technician Tracy Martin explains the principles behind motorcycle electrical systems and how they work. He details the various tools, such as multimeters and test lights, that can be used to evaluate and troubleshoot any vehicle's electrical problem. And in several hands-on projects, he takes readers on a guided tour of their vehicle’s electrical system, along the way giving clear, step-by-step instructions for diagnosing specific problems. • excellent resource
Format: Paperback
Excellent resource that covers the material specifically as claimed. Teaches in a conversational and enjoyable to read style. Takes someone who is not an electrical engineer through the necessary basics of electrical process specifically as it applies to motorcycle systems. Just enough theory for required understanding without extraneous complicated equations. It does cover with significant detail all material needed to allow the motorcycle owner to become fully versed with how electricity travels through the motorcycle. It clearly describes how to troubleshoot problems and then fix them. It includes lots of large, helpful diagrams and photos. After reading this book I have a profound confidence that the mystery of wiring diagrams and unseen electrical gremlins can be discovered, understood and fixed using this book and some inexpensive and readily available tools and materials. Great book by a talented author. I will look for other books he has written because I know I will likely enjoy those as well. ... show more

  • Motorcycle Electrical Systems: Troubleshooting and Repair
Format: Paperback
This book is great! I am building a motorcycle from the ground up with limited amount of off the shelf chopper parts, so I needed a book that could teach me the ins and outs of how a motorcycle electrical system works and this book delivers. I never did any electrical work on my motorcycle before but now i have the confidence to work it out. The author builds upon concepts through each chapter in a logical manner. Explains how to use a voltmeter and other testing tools. The price of this book could save you hundreds of dollars spent on parts when often it is a bad connection that is causing the problem. The author describes various ways to check systems and pin point problems. Get this book if you want to know motorcycle electrical systems. ... show more

  • EXCELLENT HOME MECHANIC ELECTRICAL BOOK
Format: Paperback
I found the information given was easy to understand with explanations that made sense. No big words with jargon that only a rocket scientist could read. This is a welcome addition to understanding and fault finding electrics for all bikes (and cars / trucks etc). Very helpful on 30 year old Yamaha RZ500's. ... show more

  • Great book, useful for all bikes, old and new alike.
Format: Paperback
I worked as an Electronic Technician for 3.5 years, I received professional training in electronics, but this book takes a look at areas I was not trained in: high power, low voltage circuits, and how to troubleshoot them. It not only gives a great introduction to electricity, and some electronics, but it provides the hands-on knowledge, techniques, and tools, to troubleshoot, and repair virtually any bike, any year. The author even instructs the reader on how to make some needed tools, for very little money, along with discussions on tools you will want to purchase (no need to buy expensive tools!). Very impressed, all around. Cheers! ... show more

  • For the not so electrical genius
Format: Paperback
Whilst I do understand the basics of electrical circuits, it was refreshing to get a look at the electrical system pertaining to a motorcycle. I especially enjoyed the section on finding the electrical fault/problem, as all to often, because of a lack of knowledge, assumptions are made about the device/parts rather than a sound troubleshoot of the system. This book demonstrates a basic guide in the matter and how to use you VOMM multimeter to locate the problem. Other interesting insights are the components and the way the interact with the other components. Helpful for the none electrically inclined and great for the home handyman/mechanic. You will not become an electrical engineer after reading this book, but you will have a far better understand of how and why your bike is powered from battery to alternator. Highly recommended... ... show more

  • Love it!
Format: Paperback
So far, I love this book. It's easy to understand and has very helpful illustrations and diagrams. Also, it describes many of the tools needed and illustrates all of them. The book has inspired me to reprint my multi-meter manual and go over all of the functions that I rarely use. Tracy Martin also includes information on how to make some of your own basic diagnostic tools. Very useful, this book is the best I've purchased in a while. ... show more

  • Great for someone just learning
Format: Paperback
I have not completely read it but, from the position of knowing nothing about electrical systems. This is a good book. It starts at a basic level and goes from there.

  • Stop googling. Just get this book and get to work.
Format: Paperback
I really enjoyed reading this book. If you have some wiring work to do, and you don't know where to begin, begin here. While getting frustrated looking for free information online, I kept running into ads for this book. Clever internet jockey that you are, you will surely be able to find this information for free if you spend a week or so searching. This book saves your time and aggregates the improtant info for you into one place. It is well worth the modest fee, and it is good to support the old school hands-on masters like the gentleman who wrote this book for you. ... show more
