Is the VersiFlex ink set a new formula? Yes. The VersiFlex Ink Set is specially-formulated ink set that includes specialty C, M and Y carts, along with an Expander cart that allows for optimal transfers across a range of unique papers and vinyl. Do I need specialty paper for VersiFlex? Yes. VersiFlex Inks work with, VersiFlex Light Paper for light fabrics and uncoated items. TruePix Paper for standard sublimation blanks. For years, my wife’s small customization business felt limited because I could only offer sublimation on polyester fabrics or polymer-coated hard goods. We did not have the budget or space for a massive Direct-to-Garment machine :(. I decided to try this VersiFlex ink set because it promised to bridge that gap effectively. The idea that I could finally print on porous, natural fibers using the familiar Sawgrass hardware was too tempting to resist, even though it required dedicating a specific printer to the task. The technology behind these inks is fascinating because it utilizes a self-weeding system when paired with the specific transfer paper. The set includes Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and a specialized Expander cartridge that replaces black, which helps the ink bond to uncoated surfaces. The most significant feature here is the ability to bypass pre-treatment entirely. Usually, printing on darks or cottons requires spraying nasty chemicals, but this system claims to handle cotton, wood, and canvas straight out of the box. It is designed specifically for the SG1000, and I appreciated that the cartridges are the extended size (70ml vs standard 31ml!), meaning I would not be swapping them out constantly during a large run. My experience using these inks has been genuinely impressive. I started by printing a complex, multi-colored logo onto a beige canvas tote bag and a photograph onto a slice of unfinished pine wood. The transfer process was straightforward, and when I peeled the paper back, I was shocked to see that only the image transferred without any weird background polymer window. The "hand" or feel of the print on the fabric is exceptionally soft - you can barely tell where the ink sits, which is a massive improvement over the stiff sensation of heat transfer vinyl. The colors were accurate to my screen, with skin tones looking natural rather than oversaturated. However, there are a few caveats that potential buyers must understand. The absolute biggest hurdle is that you cannot swap between these inks and standard sublimation inks - once you put VersiFlex in your SG1000, that printer is married to it forever. We had to buy a second printer just for this purpose, which was a steep investment, but it was worth it. Additionally, while the wash fastness is rated for about 30 cycles, it does fade a bit faster than traditional sublimation does on polyester. You also have to be very careful to use the correct settings, as the "Expander" cart works differently than a standard black ink cartridge. In summary, this ink set solves a very specific problem for professional decorators who want to expand beyond polyester without buying industrial equipment. It delivers a high-quality, soft, and vibrant result on materials that were previously off-limits to sublimation users. If you have the volume to justify a dedicated machine for cotton and wood, this is a brilliant solution that yields professional-grade merchandise. Bottom line: This ink system is an excellent choice for print shops looking to expand into cotton and natural wood products without purchasing a Direct-to-Garment machine. The prints are soft, vibrant, and self-weeding, which saves significant labor time. However, remember that it’s compatible only with SG1000 and requires a dedicated printer setup and cannot be mixed with standard inks. Price is not cheap as well and it is a serious commitment, but delivers exceptional professional-looking results on natural fibers at a fraction of cost of a DTG machine. Fantastic 5-star product but only for a very specific use case, highly recommended! Pros: 1. Converts SG1000 to Direct-to-Garment machine. 2. Prints nicely on standard cotton fabrics. 3. Transfers feel soft against the skin. 4. No cutting or weeding is required. 5. Colors remain vibrant after heat pressing. 6. Works great on untreated porous wood. 7. Ink cartridges yield a high volume. 8. Eliminates need for expensive pretreatment liquids. 9. Water based formula is safe indoors. Cons: 1. Only compatible with the SG1000 printer. 2. Love Sawgrass and the Veriflex ink system. This set of four cartridges is the way to go if you need to refill the ink on your SG1000 printer (will NOT fit the SG500, just in case you were wondering.) The colors are fabulous and smudge resistant. I love how many different types of printing projects I can make with this system. It is a big chunk of change for this, but it is a better value overall if you get the four pack vs individual colors. ... show more

This new Sawgrass VersiFlex 70923 Extended CMYE is absolutely fantastic, but only if you are planning on buying a new printer. This sublimation ink will work on all kinds of fabrics, including cotton, and even on wood, without any chemical pre=treatment. The catch is, if you already have a Sawgrass machine and have been using the conventional sublimation ink, you cannot change over. You have to start with a new machine (SG1000); it is not compatible with any other machines, which makes it quite expensive. However, if you decide to take the plunge, these inks will do amazing things. The transfers come off cleanly, and the resulting image is sharp and clearly defined. I can't say how well the images will hold up after extended washing, but they look great to start. The ink is very expensive, as is a new printer, so as I stated above, this requires a substantial investment; however, if this ink lasts like the old Sublijet ink, it should be a good value. With the ability to work on all kinds of fabrics and porous materials, the Sawgrass VersiFlex 70923 Extended CMYE ink is truly a game changer for anyone who has the need for and ability to get a new machine dedicated to just this ink. ... show more

These 70ml Sawgrass VersiFlex inks will only fit the SG1000 printers. I actually have 3 of the Sawgrass printers each with the different inks they offer and 2 different sizes. I have really enjoyed this new VersiFlex ink that gives me the option to do heat transfers on cotton t-shirts, canvas bags, and even wood. This ink is a great alternative to DTF printing and offers great quality prints. These Sawgrass VersiFlex Extended CMYE ink cartridges are 70ml, so they are more than 2 times larger than the 31ml cartridges you get with your machine. The extra capacity keeps me from changing ink cartridges as frequently and saves money buying the larger inks capacities. ... show more

This original ink set paired with an SG1000 produced beautiful, vibrant images and details that transferred perfectly to t-shirts and wood plaques I've tested it on. While the price was a bit more than other alternative inks I've used, for the quality of results I've received from both these types of inks, the consistency and reliability of this set of inks definitely exceeded all my past experience.
