  • Suits my needs
Color: Classic Cherry Finish
I purchased this item at a heavy discount, and there was apparently only one since the discount was no longer available when I checked back. There was some minor chips and damage to some of the finish when the product arrived. The damage is minor, though, and I'm guessing that is why the product was marked down. I intended to buy one of these to see if I liked the quality. If it was up-to-snuff, then I was planning on buying two additional pieces that I had seen for an even less expensive price on another site. The problem is, I wanted the piece with the doors on the bottom first. I like the product well enough to have purchased the other two units. Assembly wasn't too bad. The instructions are actually quite good with actual instructions written out in many cases. The only part of the assembly that I found to be disagreeable involved the screws that have the long groove for a guide rather than actual pilot holes. I found it was extremely easy to over-tighten those screws. On the finished product, there are two screws that were over-tightened and have thusly stripped out. The quality of the hardware was solid, though, which is always a plus in pre-fabricated furniture. The advantage of having decent screws that don't strip out at the first sign of torque is a huge plus. I would advise using a torque wrench for the screws in the grooves, though. Also, tightening the corners will require some screw backing to get the pieces to be flush particularly in the pieces with the grooves. I found it best to tighten the pilot hole first to make the bracket flush, then tighten into the groove. Then, back out the first screw to adjust. Retighten. Back out the grooved screw to adjust. Retighten. I actually found it somewhat humorous that the item came with a brown marker to touch up the seems as well as any edges where the finish had chipped away. I used the marker quite liberally after assembly, and it did make a positive difference. On the finished product, my biggest complaint is that the edges of the molding on the shelves isn't finished, and it sticks out. I ended up using a dab of paint instead of the marker. Overall, would I purchase this unit again? I gave it four stars because it wasn't anything special. It was about what I would expect at that price point, and I would purchase it at that price point again. Heck, I purchased two more similar units, so that must be saying something. EDIT: After receiving and assembling the other two shelves, I figured I would add to this review. I made a comment about the grooves being used instead of pilot holes. I did much better on the assembly of the other two shelves, as I only over-tightened one screw. I also found the "hidden connectors" to be interesting the second time around. On my first assembly, I didn't have any issues with them at all. On the next two, I just couldn't get them to line up properly. None of them. In fact, I would say that those stupid things were over half of the total assembly time, but part of that could be just due to the fact that the rest of the assembly is so much easier after you've already done it once. The one thing I want to point out, though, is that the other two shelves came packaged differently. The box was different, and there was also no damage whatsoever. I purchased those from a different site, so it is something to think about. You get what you pay for, and for the price point, these are good shelves. I believe the next step up is to use actual lumber, and that will triple the price in a hurry. ... show more

  • Completed by myself but 2 is faster
Color: Classic Cherry Finish
This bookshelf was the closest to what I was looking for. My current bedroom theme is sort of a cross between medieval castle/Hogwarts mixed with Disney and anime. The bookshelf has the “fancy library” feel that I was going for and the nice rich color of the brown goes so well with the grey stone background of the wall. I would love to order a second one but my room isn’t big enough. The top half I use for the small handful of my favorite books “since I have a lot of books in storage” and the lower half of the shelf, behind the doors, was supposed to be for movies but I decided to store my video games there instead. There’s also plenty of room at the edge of the shelves in front of the books for small knickknacks. The shelf is decent in sturdiness and weight and the wood is typical particles but still pretty thick. The cardboard backing was also easy to hammer on. However, I do have a couple of complaints during assembly. 1) The cupboard doors need to be held exactly where you want them and either you need to have something hold them in place, or else have a second person hold them in place for you. Otherwise one door will scrape against the top or bottom edge of the frame, or there will be a weird gap between the doors when closed. Also, the back of the door handles have two little pegs sticking out and the cupboard doors have a little hole where the pegs should go. However, the holes are not aligned and the first time I attached the handles, one handle ended up being higher than the other. After a while, I had the idea of removing the handles and switching the doors. Once I did that, the handles were aligned correctly. But neither door or handle is marked, so there’s no way of knowing the handles won’t line up until you try putting the handles on. Bit annoying. 2) One of the final steps is to attach the trim to the individual shelves. If you look at the front of each of the two top shelves in my pictures, you will notice the thickness of the front edge. That is actually a separate piece of wood that needs to be attached. However, there are no holes to put the screws through. Instead there is a narrow opening that runs along the entire length like a thin trench. The screw goes through the opening until it reaches the bottom and then goes through the wood. Once they are attached, you can wedge the shelves into the bookshelf. However, if it turns out that the trim is uneven and there is an annoying gap on one side (which there more than likely will be) you CAN NOT unscrew it, readjust it, and screw it on again. That will split the wood. It happened to me with both trims. Now both trims tilt downward a tiny bit. Other than those two issues, this shelf is great. I managed to assemble it myself but it took me nearly 3 hours and I was assembling it in a narrow hallway. Definitely would have been faster if I had help and more space to work but was still doable alone. Despite the setbacks, I still give this 5 stars. Mostly for aesthetics, sturdiness, depth of the shelves, and the ability to assemble it alone. ... show more

  • Looks great for a lower end bookcase!
Color: Classic Cherry Finish
Bought two of these pre-pandemic and loved them. They aren’t going to last a lifetime, but they are attractive and hood quite a lot. We ordered one more recently to complete the set, and while we made it work, the molding details are slightly different measurements and it doesn’t match up exactly with the other two. It’s pretty subtle but noticeable. It also came with a massive scratch on the side which we were able to hide. ... show more

  • Great deal for the price
Color: Classic Cherry Finish
I always buy this brand, because it is the best quality of any do it yourself furniture. Very good instructions. No complaints. Also I got it on sale. So even better.
