  • Consider me degraded.
Style: MP3 Player Only Capacity: 8GB Color: Black
Good for music. Bad for audiobooks. Like, impressively bad. I thought about this product for a long time, and I came up with the only possible conclusion: Sansa is a front company for a government program created to psychoanalyze the effectiveness of subtle, multifarious inefficiencies as a method of torture/personality degradation. It wouldn't be so obvious, except I had the last gen of this product, so I know THEY know how to do it better. Oh, god, I've become one of those people. Seriously, though. Let's pretend we're watching a movie and the bluray player works like this clip jam. Movie start: >Plays scene one. >Plays scene two. >Starts scene three from the middle. What the--? You click the back button to make it restart from the beginning of scene three. >Restarts scene two. Goddammit. Click forward. >Restarts scene three from the same point in the middle. ARRRGHHH! Click back twice to get to the scene selection screen. >Movie turns off entirely and you must reopen the entire app to start the movie again. Scene selections, play scene 3. >Are you sure you want to start from the beginning? Yes. >Starts scene 3 from the beginning. >Plays scene 4. >Starts scene 5 from the sex scene, because apparently your mom watched it last and that's where she left off. ...Kill me. Also, god help you if you listen to Audible, (who splits most 11.5 hour audiobooks in two files of 5+ hours) and you want to listen to your book again, but not from the beginning. Do you know how long it takes to skip 2 hours of audiobook at the rate of 1.5 minute increments? I'll tell you, because I've had to do it. 15 minutes. That's how long. On the up-side, at least this product taught me a new skill. They shifted the power button from smaller and on the top, to large and on the front, so I have discovered the ability to bend over and somehow turn the player on and off with my boobs. It's super. To give the devil it's due, the freaking things is well made. I have dropped it dozens of times and even stepped on it, and it still works fine. It is at it's best when I'm wearing it for exercising and listening to music only. ... show more

  • The best choice for audiobooks when recovering from chronic fatigue syndrome
Style: MP3 Player Only Capacity: 8GB Color: Black
This is the perfect device. Small monochrome screen so you aren't getting colored lighting into your brain with social media and etc. Works perfectly. I set it up with the audible manager program and it worked without any issues. The software looks dated and for some reason the window at the bottom would shrink on it's own, but it worked without any fuss. Sandisk has always made the best mp3 players for the money and they really hit the ceiling with the clip series. These products are audiophile approved, though not the jam because it doesn't support flac. The only con I have is that it doesn't play Flac files. There is no reason for it to not be able to play flac. They deliberately left it out so people would get the higher models that all have flac, but some of us want a simple monochrome screen. However I knew it wouldn't play flac as I was buying it so I'm not knocking a star for it. It does what I needed it to perfectly. Some tips: go to the settings and set the backlit timer to 15 seconds. When listening to an audiobook hit the down button and choose the options to view audiobooks as chapters, makes the whole experience much better. ... show more

  • A waste of money, time, and hope.
Style: MP3 Player Only Capacity: 8GB Color: Black
One month after the return window closed, the Clip Jam just stopped working. One night it functioned, the next morning... nothing. It won't turn on, charging does nothing (and I've tried multiple charging cords, adapters, and outlets), and it's past the return date, so I paid $30 for two months of using a so-so device that: Often refused to connect to a computer unless I simultaneously plugged it into the USB slot *while* holding down the 'back' button; Can play music from the SD card OR the internal memory, but won't combine the two; Doesn't reliably remember where an audiobook left off; Doesn't have a dedicated power button; Doesn't have a 'Play All' option in all folders, just *some* folders; Doesn't move easily between artists and/or albums, but often makes the user start over at the main menu; And most importantly, doesn't last anywhere close to as long as any previous Sandisk MP3 player. When my Clip+ finally died after several good years of regular use, I looked at lots of options for a replacement. I read the many, many other reviews stating all of the above issues and more, but I'd had such good experiences with the e200, c200, Clip, and much-missed Clip+ (and no other MP3 player I came across seemed to play Audible files, which is about 1/3 of what I used my Clip+ for), that I decided to give the Clip Jam a try, anyway. What a mistake. To all the other manufacturers out there, if you can make an MP3 player that: Supports Audible and common music file types; Has internal and expandable memory that work seamlessly together; Recalls the last played spot on audiobooks, and allows the user to set their own bookmarks, too; Is small, lightweight, and can clip to clothing; Has a decent battery life; Is controlled with physical buttons that can be used to pause, play next, adjust volume, and turn on/off *without* requiring the user to look at the screen (*essential* when driving or working out!); And lasts longer than a tube of toothpaste... Basically, if you can make what Sandisk was making several years ago, then, as you can see from all these unhappy reviews, you have a ready-made customer base just *waiting* to give you our money. ... show more
